  1. All, I am going to take the plunge and update my SatNav with the 2018/2019 maps. I have backed up the existing files, and downloaded the Maps for 2018/2019. As I am using a Mac is there anything I need to do / consider which might stop the process working? Any words of wisdom from Mac users who have done the update would be welcome. Thanks in advance
  2. Try putting it in Park and then pushing the lever forward further (not forcing it) see if it engages the Paw. If so sure sign the cable needs adjusting
  3. Update on my Issue: Summary of my issue: The Dealership changed the DSG lever mech due to the Error P issue. By chance I found that after this fix that when the gear was in P the car could still roll or be pushed with the handbrake off. When the gear is in P (as we know) this should lock the gear box and prevent the car moving. Car went in today and they have fixed my problem. The Master Tech said the cable engaging the Paw which locks the gear box was too tight preventing the gear selector when in P fully engaging the Paw. He demonstrated this prior to the fix by pushing the gear selector in P as far forward as you can which engaged the Paw, when you did it normally it didn’t engage. This is something maybe those with the issue could try, see if the Paw engages. i hope the helps 😀
  4. You gents are legends....massive thanks for the info. Saves me a job ripping into the Dealers on Tuesday 😜
  5. In my view the Park locking the gearbox is a safety feature, if your handbrake fails Park is the safety net, just like leaving a manual transmission in gear if parked on a hill. So should you bother..it’s up to you but I am putting mine firmly at Skoda door to sort out.
  6. Thanks for the reply. You couldn’t help me out by taking a picture please of what you can see. I have had another look this morning and can’t see where if anywhere the part could fit. Thanks in advance
  7. Driving home tonight and something fell from under the steering column cover on to my foot. Stopped the car to find out what it was and found this! Any idea what it is and what it does or in my case doesn’t do now 🤣
  8. Yes I had the ‘workshop error, leave in P’ error and linkage replacement.
  9. Does it make a clicking sound while its rolling back / forwards?
  10. I am hoping mine is cable related. I can’t see how the paw could fail in the gearbox on a 3 year old car (25k miles) which when parked is on flatish ground with the handbrake on. 😳
  11. When in the gear selector is in park a cable pulls a ‘Paw’ within the gear box which locks the transmission. The transmission lock isn’t meant to replace the handbrake but my understand it’s still a very robust mechanism to stop the car rolling if the handbrake fails
  12. Thanks. It was in the dealer on the 16th, full 3rd year service, haldex fluid change, MOT. It cost me a arm and a leg. 😩
  13. After some opinion / advice please. On the 16th Sept my Octavia went in to the dealer to replace the gear linkage mechanism on the DSG box. Reason for this was I was getting a random message appearing “Error workshop only leave vehicle if selector leaver is in position P” on the dash at various times. I Went away on holiday came back this week and found when the car is in park it’s not locking the gear box. Found this out after handbrake slipped and car rolled back while in park. Basically if the car is in park and rolls under it’s on steam i here a click, click, click coming from the gear selector area. Issue is the car went out of warranty on the 30th Sept, and my feeling is this is linked to what they did or didn’t do on the 16th. Whats your views(s) chuck it back at the dealer and try to get it sorted under the warranty or under the warranty for what they did on the 16th? Thanks all
  14. Morning all, Looking at getting my wheels (Anthracite Extremes) referb due to me being **** at parking. I am going to go from the stock Anthracite to Black but want to match the colour to the black wing mirror covers. Anyone know what the colour is called or the colour code for the wing mirror covers? Thanks all
  15. My initial thoughts are 1st Service Free (it a non cost option to them as its only a oil / filter change), Unlocking of SmartLink and a Tank of Fuel. Should I go for more?
  16. Time for a 'Non Theoretical' update. So for those who not read the thread the summary is: 4 month old demo bought 3 weeks ago from well known national Skoda franchise 1st day of ownership headlight washer failed followed a week later with a fog light failure due to water ingress which was changed. At this juncture the question was raised about the car being damaged to the area of the washer jet and fog light which the dealer denied Suspicion led to evidence being found the car had been resprayed / repaired on front bumper, which was not declared at point of sale SkodaUK was called and got involved as the repair was not a approved repair and not logged their system. Dealer then came clean that the repairs was a result of a staff member reversing another customers car into what is now my car. The damage was a scuffed bumper with no other damage to any other part of the car. The repair was carried out 'locally' of which they agree is not to a Skoda Approved standard. I am now awaiting a a call from the dealer to take the car back and have the front bumper resprayed and the overspray on the bonnet polished out. They have also agreed to fix a couple of other minor paint issues unrelated to the repair. Upon completion they have assured me that if I am not 100% happy they will rework until I am. In terms of compensation to restore my trust in the dealer.....I will be having a conversation with them when I take the car back. In summary I was very impressed with Skoda UK and their help in moving this forward. Do I believe the dealer about the scuffed bumper..not 100%. But I have been over the car with a fine tooth comb and apart from the poor paint finish on the bumper and overspray on the bonnet there is no evidence of any other damage or repair. As I stated in previous posts the car is as A1 mechanically as a 4 month old, 4K car should be. I'll keep you posted once the car is back. Finally thanks to those who posted advice, suggestions to the thread....very very helpful.
  17. Not sure if Skoda Approved do, but as a consumer you do if the item is mis sold (27th Feb is D Day). I understand the purchaser has the internet advert for the car stating it is as new condition...excellent bodywork etc....
  18. I don't think that a Skoda Approved Used Car is a guarantee of no damage. However in this case the car was bought as a Approved Car, the dealer bought the car directly from Skoda as a demo and damaged it. It was then repaired 'off the radar' then sold it to the purchaser. The repair is not logged on Skoda's system so technically not a approved repair so does not come with any guarantees. The purchaser challenged the dealer about the cars history initially after the headlight washer failed on the day of purchase. Dealer denied the car had any repair carried out on it, evidence says now it has and dealer is on the hook. Skoda UK are on the case!
  19. Thanks to those who took time to post a response to my "Theoretical" question......I will keep you update ;-)
  20. The purchaser payed what would be considered the market price for the car, considering age, mileage, spec etc..
  21. The car was purchased 3 weeks ago and has been back to the dealers 3 times for headlight washer and fog light replacement. In terms of miles on purchase it had done 3900, now it's on 4300. The incident though not yet clear in terms of cause and extent appears to be a minor impact to the drivers side corner of the bumper (hence headlight washer / fog light issues). No other damage to the front of the car is apparent. The purchaser only got suspicious when the headlight washer failed on the day of purchase. On further inspection over this weekend (car was cleaned) evidence appeared in the form of overspray / masking marks on the bumper / bonnet. The purchaser went into the dealer yesterday to discuss.....this is the best bit. While the purchaser was outside with the dealer, his / her partner was in the showroom and overheard 4 of the sales staff discussing the car and the incident the staff member had in it. which the dealer acknowledged when confronted with the info.
