I've done a little more reading and suspect that, given the nature of the person I bought it from, the car may be suffering from CLOS (Careful Lady Owner Syndrome). So i've just been out and run it for a couple of miles in 3rd gear with my foot flat to the floor (it just about makes 4000 revs) to try and clear some of the crud out. I've also stuck some injector cleaner in and the higher grade diesel. Fingers crossed I can burn up some of the gunk from the turbo!

Hi All, I picked up my first Octavia today. A mk1 52 plate 1.9tdi ambiente. I thought I was getting a fairly good deal, high mileage but I can live with that! Unfortunately, upon getting onto a main road I discovered a problem. The car can barely accelerate. It doesn't seem to want to go above 3000rpm so i'm constantly changing gears to speed up. I can hear the whine of the turbo spooling up but when you hit 3000 there is just no power at all. I've got a 1.9 Roomster too and the performance is absolutely dire compared to it. I've had vcds on it and there are no faults anywhere, can anyone give me any clue what might be causing this and is it likely to be expensive to fix? One other thing that may/may not be relevant. When I switch the ignition on, the car dings at me around 6 times. Normal or a clue? No engine management light at all though. Thanks Chris

I have just purchased a 56 roomster 1.9 tdi and I have quite a few questions that I can't seem to find answers for so I'm hoping your wonderful community can help! I'm aware that some of these might need programming. I have a friend who has an odbc programmer which he'll lend me but I don't really know how to use it for a roomster so any tips or links to lists of settings would be much appreciated! Here goes: The interior lights seem to only stay on for 20 seconds no matter what I do. This is really annoying when trying to clean the car or anything else in the dark. Is there any way to change this? The central locking only opens the rear doors with 2 presses of the button, again, possible to change? I miss my one touch up and down windows, a setting for this? I had the glow plug light start flashing at me after my wife had driven the car, the error code was: P0726 Engine Speed Input Circuit Range/Performance. My wife says she stalled the car several times (she hadn't driven a manual for a couple of years), could this have caused it? I have cleared the error and it hasn't come back The cornering light warning light has started flashing at me. I wasn't aware I even have cornering lights (how do I tell? I have fog lights). Is this a bulb out or something else? I'm thinking of changing the head unit for something like this: http://www.parrot.com/uk/products/asteroid-range/parrot-asteroid-smart I have factory fitted parking sensors which show the display on the dance head unit, will the sensors still work, albeit without the display, if I change the head unit? I hope someone can help with all my questions! Thanks Chris
