Please tell me I've done the right thing
JungleJames replied to Octy0GG's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
Well if you are referring to the bit about just driving up and down the road all the time, and nothing else, then this doesn't do any car any good. Even patrols. It also doesn't do you any good, as these are distances you should be walking. -

Ta. So not much of a difference now. All this kicking up a stink about diesels was exaggerated before. Now it's just plain uneducated rubbish. Love to know what high mileage drivers are meant to do if someone gullible decides to ban diesels. Anyway, as shown, these cars can still be fine around town, no matter what engine you have. -

I only answered the particulate part as I wasn't sure what Euro 6 cars are like for NOx -
Ah yes good idea. It only deletes the sections youtl tell it to, so should work

These will be Euro 6 models. Therefore by having diesels over petrols you are reducing particulates. In fact, Euro 5s would have done. -
Cant find an option to delete them singularly. If you go to settings when on the nav page, then manage contacts i think it is, you can delete them all at once. But guess that may not be what you are after?

Suppose id better look at that now. Will try myself

Is that a question about the Octy? 33 is the answer to the second. For those that hadnt worked it out, I mentioned the insurance for a reason. Reason being you wouldnt expect the insurance to be less. -

Nope. I said he is a good enough reason to. Different to saying thats why I had done it -

No but your a reason for selling the Skoda and leaving Briskoda. -
So exactly 3yrs and 1 month since I picked up the Octy, I officially started the short countdown to the goodbye. Short as in 2 days Ive been forced into purchasing something which costs less to insure though. But not to worry, I'm sure I will survive. No Matt, you cannot spoil my fun. Lets wait and see who works it out first

Euro 5 and 6 is unlikely to make a difference anyway. If I remember correctly, Euro 6 just decreased the nitrogen oxide limits over Euro 5. Hence why some Euro 6s have SCRs.It does make me laugh though. What will people do when petrols are forced to have particulate traps on them? After all, they are now worse than modern diesels in that respect. -

But what has caused the problems. Remember they could well be just full of soot.I will clarify. When I say soot, I mean ash. The by product of burning the particulates. This is completely normal for a DPF. In the case of one failing at 93,000 miles, it is difficult to tell what caused it. If it was ash, then this isn't down to the driving. -

Year after year of not achieving running temperatures? I never said that. If people are constantly not letting it reach running temperatures, then they are driving their car constantly for journeys they should be walking. It's only a 30 to 45 min walk we are talking about. Also, the DPF will always carry out necessary regens. Unless of course you do just run up and down the road in it, which I've already said you shouldn't. So if it does start to give trouble, it is likely it is just full of soot, which will happen to all of them eventually. My car is virtually 3yrs and 1 month old. It has never even shown a warning light once. As has been mentioned by someone else, a normal 7 mile commute is not a problem. That is about the length of my normal shortest journey. Every now and again it gets some decent exercise. -

Thanks for the heads up, I shall check it out. a A a A a A Nope, all seems to be working thanks. Perhaps if people didnt talk such utter gobbledigook, it wouldnt need to be tested. Note that is aimed at everybody that speaks rubbish, and no particualr individual has been mentioned. -

PMSL. Some dealers would have you believe a car falling to pieces on the first morning is normal. Its confirmed by me, a driver and owner of a diesel Octy 3, as not being normal. IF it really was constant regens, then it is either one thats just spent its life going up and down the local road (was it a dealer test car), or it had a fault. Taking it for one good blast down the motorway would have likely cleared everything once and for all, and stopped these constant regens. Or the more likely option, is the car had a fault. A dodgy sensor somewhere in the DPF? -

Eh, well it must have been highly exagerated, because everything i said was correct. THE DPF IS NOT A TICKING TIMEBOMB. You can do whatever and whenever you like. Ignoring the fact some people are concerned about cost effectiveness considering mileage (I obviously wasnt, and purchased a disel simply because I wanted a diesel), there are very few people where the DPF would cause any problems at all. -
I wont be buying one. Front end really does look dire. Why get another Octy when my current one looks better? Yes I slated the new XF when it came out, as the interior wasnt that special, and yes I will admit it did grow on me (still poor compared to last interior though), but this fails to grow on me, and there is no way id splash out 20k plus, for another Octy, which looks worse. Just keep the current one and save myself 20k plus.

Oh, and my yearly average is probably lower than most petrol owners on here. You don't need to do high mileage to keep the dpf happy -

Two words: Highly exaggerated. I get in my diesel and drive wherever and whenever I like. Simple. Yes sometimes I interrupt regens, but all this stuff about ticking time bombs is daft. It will just carry on with the regeneration at the next suitable time, if it so desires. So unless you only ever do the school run, and never touch a motorway or any other high speed stretch, there is nothing to worry about. This is the mk 3 octy we are talking about. Not the Mk 1 XF.
