blueriver replied to blueriver's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
Just thought I'd pellet people know where I am with this. Now got a 9 day old baby, so on the back burner now... Did manage to get it started, sounded like it was blowing somewhere. Was deep airy sound. Haven't had it started since. -

Did it all back up right this morning and tried to start it, only to find it has a flat battery now. Got to give it a good jump start tonight. -

I'll be starting up tomorrow. Fingers crossed it's all ok after manhandling half of the engine bay! Thanks Leeboy. Don't think the non return valve stretches to the far hole anyway. I'll leave it to idle for a while before doing anything. Make sure the oil etc is circulating properly. -

Thanks jimbling. Managed to get a couple from my friendly garage across the road. Now I'm confused as to which way round these two go in the turbo inlet pipe It's this right or does it not matter? -

It's been a long time of getting things off and back on again. Struggled with studs from the turbo to manifold and also getting the mounting plate off of the turbo. I managed to get all back together and started filling with coolant. It filled a bit, and then a bit more, and then more and more, until I realised it was ****ing out the bottom of the engine bay. Today I've managed to get it all back apart again! Taken out the intercooler pipe and egr system. Pulled out the manifold again! Screws are a nightmare to get to. And it's leaking off the top of the turbo coolant banjo bolt! Any ideas which way the spacers go round. I guessed that the large space goes below the pipe, but there's a small spacer/washer on there as well. I had it with washer at the top, then coolant pipe, then spacer. Is this correct? Maybe I didn't town it up enough. -

Here is some info on idle I'm all new to these kind of readings. Do they make much sense or show a problem? I've also noticed that my coolant is going down and also the oil too. Leaking through the turbo? -

I will check the feed tomorrow eve. Maybe that's where that leak is coming from in the picture I took. I'll be in contact Barry. You're a legend for this if it's the case -

Do you still have the turbo? Think this might be a problem. The engine seems to be OK. Not getting and pull or decent power anymore. Also don't get the let of noise when accelerating. Don't think the turbo is spooling. -
Any chance you have rear o/s window regulator.

I took it out and it cleared. Seems to run ok. Very happy. Has a bit of a strange sound now. When accelerating, it sounds like the whine of the turbo spoiling, but a bit deeper like a pigeon spooling instead. Also I'm not getting the let off tsssh from the air filter any more either. -

It s just strange that it was only when I put it in gear and tried to pull off that I then got the smoke. -

Tried to pull out of the driveway. Engaged gear and went to pull back. Clutch up and small revs given.... White smoke out the exhaust :-( It was fine idling yesterday. -

OK, so I've put all back together and run for 25mins on idle. No issues as yet. Gonna take it out for a spin later and see what happens. -

Alright. I'm the dipstick! The sealant instructions were a little confusing. Saying something like for every 2mm bead is 1 day curing time. But wait 30mins after doing to restart engine... -

So it's all back together now. Maybe a simple question, but how many litres of oils should be put back in? The Haynes says 4.5l, eurocarparts said 3.5l -

There was a lot of pieces of what look like curved plastic in the strainer. I'm a bit worried as to where they came from. Any ideas -

OK, so after hours and snapping a hex tool as a bolt was way tight, I finally got the sump off. Had to also cut off the undertray as the screw had rusted very badly. The strainer was badly blocked with very small bits of black stuff. Also was what looked like small chunks of plastic in the sump too. This is after I'd rubbed with my finger (which let all the oil or if the pipe) Next question, is how clean should the sump be before I put it back on? -

And how awkward are the sump nuts to get off! Slightly tight /seized -

As I'm training the oil, I see this from the turbo.... It's this may that the pipe is not fitted tight enough or could it be a problem? -

OK. Thanks. So, oil wise. 0-30 or fully synthetic 5-30? Or would something else be better? Currently on variable service -

When it got back I put some oil in the top of the engine to drive it into the driveway. The garage in France seemed to have cleared all the fault codes (slightly annoying) but I can't get any from diags. Car is seeming to run OK. So far I have an oil light on after running idle for around ten mins and coolant light(known previously) Either my app is rubbish, but I'm not getting any faults on it -

I'm gonna drain and check the oil strainer first, then see how it runs. And go from there -
