  1. Hi all. Is there a thread re class action etc? I Have an affected 1.6 Monte, and am finding the lack of info from Skoda insulting

A class action can only follow if an adverse effect is established. Like me you will be waiting until late 2016 at the least.

  2. Half forgot about this with other issues in life. Dealer wanted to charge me £200 for 2 of the hankooks as my car was a fair few months old, despite me registering the problem within a few weeks of delivery. I got Skoda UK involved, end result Pirelli's fitted FOC. Car is very camber happy still, that's prob down to the 17" rims, rubber band tyres and cheap suspension set up. Pirelli's have been on a couple of months now, monte went for her first service last week and I could swear she's pulling left a tadge again. I really want to put winter tyres on but am holding back as long as possible in case the issue gets worse again.
  3. Thanks, I've logged a call with Skoda, who helpfully have just called back to say there investigating and will get back to me within 48hrs. They did say they've no record on file re the 50% contribution but that could have been 'agreed' with another department... but that if so given the age and history it's something they would likely look at. Agree completely re wear at 4.5k - that was my next 'argument' should I get no joy from this route. Not sure where I'm going to stand with the hankooks though :/ I went VAG this time as my local BMW dealer was, shall we say, very less than helpful with my 118D both under warranty and out of it (with the sharp crank teeth) - so far kudos to Skoda CS...
  4. Yh, I've read most of them It's the solution that's now being applied (hankook tyres and charging me) that I'm wondering about.
  5. Collected my Monte around Xmas and immediately noticed the famous left pull. Booked it into closest dealer where I was working after the hols and after trying to fob me off with 'it follows the camber sir' eventually took it for tracking. The day after I collected I rang in and said it was still the same. Fast forward to the end of May and I finally got round to re booking it in. Had to move the booking back to end of June and it's just been in. Dealer tells me now that Skoda issued a service bulletin in March for this, advising changing tyres but... as I've done 4.5k Skoda will only cover 50% of the cost. Further i'm told that they'll be fitting Hankook as there a like for like premium brand. Does this sound right? I've logged a call to Skoda CS as i'm not happy paying to rectify a fault that was there at purchase and reported when it only had a few hundred miles on it.
  6. As stated the tsi is probably the better choice given all things being equal. I ended up with the tdi tech over Xmas as I managed to source a pre reg (12miles, 8weeks old registration) for less than a 'new new' tsi. My average mileage in this (2nd car) will only be around 10k, with mostly short (~10mile) trips, so far I've had no dpf issues but I do do 1 or 2 runs a week of 25miles down the A38. Love the engine, it was very very tight initially but seems to loosen up almost weekly, like any turbo diesel it's got a lot of useful overtaking grunt even if it isn't that nippy off the lights.
  7. I've not driven either for any length of miles to pass a definitive comment but the demonstrator citigo I had for a day whilst the monte had it's tracking done seemed poor in comparison. Interior build was much of a muchness, as was general driving but the engine was what really let the citigo down for m - granted at 4.5k it might not have been completely run in but it seemed really unwilling to rev, and it was either that or that coupled with gearing that made stop starting round Notts ring road tiresome. I'd have thought the citigo would be heavily geared in the lower gears to 'citi' traffic so perhaps the demo just had engine issues.
  8. Oops my bad - citigo. Didn't take to it at all, the only car I've driven similar was an aygo and I must say the aygo was an arm and a leg better. Anyone having insurance fun with the tech? My existing insurer has lowered the policy over my last bmw, shopping round i've shaved another £80 off that so all good - except Adrian Flux - tried them on recommendation here at briskoda - and they wanted over £800. Never laughed so much in my life, thats almost 4 times the cheapest quote i've had.
  9. The mdi thing? I've not bothered with it yet but may give it a whiz down the line as blutooth streaming isn't perfect. Not had a recurrence of the rubber smell - although it's some way away I now think it was a 'freak' draught from the tyre fire in w.yorks.
  10. Just brought mine back from the dealer - said the toe on the front was out and have adjusted the tracking. Drove it home and.... still the same. Pulled up at home some 12miles later and there was a really strong burning rubber smell. Rang the service dept who have no idea other than it shouldn't.... asked me to monitor that and said tracking is now perfect so nothing more to do. Politely informed them that if it's still pulling left whilst on the rhs of the camber (like it was before) then something isn't right still and it will need sorting. Overall pretty much my whole day off wasted (school o' clock time soon now). They did loan me a citgo...... ergh. Not impressed at all. Oh nearly forgot too - £138 wanted for roof bars and told me they can't do lowering springs as skoda say there a vrs part only. :/
  11. Thanks, annoying. My local dealer just before Xmas told me there were no red estates left full stop. Only Estates left at Skoda were Black and a smattering of white ones around the country at dealers. I really wanted red, with black the last choice and luckily (perhaps not so now) fell on a pre reg (12 miles) candy white estate for less than the list of the petrol. Two different dealers told me the red tech's were the first to go. C'est la vie! Quite like it in white now and it seems the de riguer colour atm so resale shouldn't be an issue. How are you finding yours? I've only clocked 500 miles, with 200 of them driving it back from the dealer on the south coast. Engine is still very tight and the bluetooth streaming is a bit hit n miss but otherwise I'm quite happy. Oops nearly forgot mine pulls to the left (its on dunlops) and is at the local dealer tomorrow to sort.
  12. garpat welcome to the club Can I ask where you sourced a red monte tech diesel? I ended up with candy white as the only red estate I could find was an ex dem at a dealer in Yorks with 2k on the clock.
  13. For those with Monte estates has anyone has any issue with bars marking the gloss roof rails? I'm pretty sure I could get mine and the little ones bike in the back but theres no way I'd do it over winter as the bikes are often filthy even off cycle paths. I've got use of a dispatch combi most weekends but would like to be able to use the monte too, roof mounting seems a good option although I have seem some decent high lvl carriers in the past .
  14. This Monte is my first VAG but unless there very different I'd be surprised if you've damaged the discs / sticking brakes if the light has only just illuminated. I've never had wear indicators on a drum brake but on my 1series there was a good 1000miles left on the pad after the light came on before I changed the pads (even then there was plenty of life left in them but at that point I'd started noticing a perceived lack of bite - it was prob just me but safe is better). Prob should ninja edit and add that sk4gw is spot on - have them checked.
  15. Thanks, mines really hit n miss. I do find though (more often than not) that switching media inputs (to say CD) for a few seconds then switching back tends to sort it. As well as issues already discussed mine will 'lag' switching tracks even when everything seems otherwise ok - it doesn't do this often but when it does it's v annoying. I'm going to try an ipod / one of the 'kids' android phones as well as my playbook and Nook HD+ tablets and see what happens with them.
  16. 63 Monte Carlo Tech Estate, in Candy white. Totally stock atm bar a few vcds tweaks done by the supplying dealer. Waiting for the weather to clear so I can debadge and sort the drums / calipers out. Nothing major planned for her.....i'm still in mourning for the 1series so when reality kicks in I may find the motivation to improve her shortcomings a little (springs, rarb and lighting maybe).
  17. Did you get anywhere with this? I haven't updated my S3 and I'm having niggles too. It started a few days ago, after working for the first part of the journey I left the car, came back and the phone paired as usual (i'd left BT on) - however track skip via the stalk or < > buttons stopped working. I could still change track via the phone but... the display remained showing the first track played info. Grrr. When I next got in the car track skip worked but the display merely showed Bluetooth Audio. I unpaired last night and reconnected - everything worked great except the display again remained showing the first track. I've not had time to play with the settings but I'm assuming that as nothing has changed with my phone and the amundsen is doing different things each time the issue is with the stereo. My shiny new tech is pulling to the left and has been booked in to sort it - I'm going to ask the service dept about the audio issue too. Not impressed really.
  18. Does the standard Monte have the full 8 speaker set up? Vaguely recall looking at specs at the base cars only have 4 speakers (iirc). However without looking that could be all 4 in front - separate drivers and tweaters (or however vag have them set up) - as opposed to 4 full range speakers (2 front / 2 back). I'm a bit of an audio nerd and I for a standard set up the amundsen in the tech sounds good. Certainly better than my business set up in the Bmw. If I was stuck with the swing and had to have sat nav built in I'd personally look for an aftermarket unit (the columbus vag unit would be fine but I can't speak for audio quality) and upgrade the speakers too - you don't have to go mad ££ wise but oem speakers as fitted are carp compared even to modestly priced aftermarket ones.
  19. HaD a quick play. Can't find the setting :/ only to change what those buttons do in radio mode. Not that updating Android should have altered this in car anyway but maybe it's worth reseting the amundsen to factory settings? Would presume you'll lose all saved nav days mind like addresses etc. On a related note did work out that the teo little stalk buttons for the centre dash display also change track when display is in audio mode.
  20. I'm not happy with it pulling as correcting for it will at the least cause premature wear to the tyres and in my mind at least undue wear to the steering mechanism. Thanks, will drop them a tinkle asap.
  21. Your welcome, once the other half is back i'll nip out and have another play. If I find it I'll write the steps down to find the particular setting. It stuck in my mind originally as I'd not even noticed those buttons up there on the top left until I looked for them after seeing them in the menu. I pressume there CD skip fwd and bkwd.
  22. Sorry, I can't remember. I'll have a play again later but it was probably fund by pressing the settings button on the front panel when in either media or phone mode.
  23. Any joy? The dealer was stumped but I had a quick play with the settings int he amundsen and there's an option to enable track skip with the arrows ont he top left on the unit. I presume thats what you were using before? Mine worked 'out of the box' with a S3 - tack info and skip - however the s3 is nagging me to update to 4.3. Personally I don't see the need as with every Galaxy I've had they get slower and glitchier with each update.
  24. I've quickly scanned this - because low and behold my mine too pulls to the left. Other than driving it home from the dealer Saturday (when I was v tired) I've only done one trip in it to fetch the wee one from his mums and it's def noticeable. Will drop a message to the supplying dealer but as there 200 miles away it'll have to be rectified somewhere local. Personally with matched tyres correctly fitted, inflated and undamaged I don't see how the tyre manufacturers are being blamed?
