  1. Hi, was after a do-it-yourself option if possible... No idea what sort of glue it is. Its an off white colour and has a hard texture like superglue. It has no smell as far as I tell.
  2. Hi Has anyone got any wheel hub centre caps going cheap that would make my winter steel wheels look a bit better? Many thanks!
  3. Hi Okay, so I took my car to one of those hand car-wash places. I get home and I find two streaks of glue that have leaked down the door, staring from the horizontal trim. Also, I find a 2" square area where the paint has peeled off the door. It looks like the trim came loose while they were washing the car and they tried to glue it back on. The glue has then leaked down the door. I tried to scrape the glue off but it removed some of the paintwork, so I stopped. This explains the 2" square area that I mentioned above - they must have got some glue on the door and scraped it off, thus removing the paintwork. Needless to say, they deny all this. Anyway, moving on, can anyone offer any advice on: - how to remove the glue that has dripped down the door, without removing more paintwork, and - how best to 'patch' up the 2" square area of damaged paintwork so that it doesn't spread/start to rust. I'm not after perfection, so no need for a re-spray, but it would be good to make it as decent as I can Many thanks, Si
  4. Hi I'm running 16" Nokian winter tyres on my 06 estate. I was wondering if folk use a different pressure with winter tyres to those printed on the inside of the fuel cap cover/advised by Skoda? Thanks
  5. Hi I'm not sure if a hydraulic arm is the correct description, but basically I mean the arm that assists the the boot to open - there is one on each side. Hope that's clear? Anyway, the nut/bolt where the right hand arm connects to the main car body is loose - I need to get behind it to tighten it which means taking off the trim in the top right hand corner of the boot. I've tried to do this and it seems to be captured by other bits of trim. Before I start disassembling my car, I thought I'd ask for some advice on the best way to access the other side of the nut/bolt so I can tighten it. Many thanks, Si
  6. Hi, as the title suggests (and completely unrelated to the other rubber mats thread currently running) I'm after a pair of rubber mats for the front of my 06 Octavia. Or, just the drivers mat if anyone has one knocking around. Cheers in advance, Si
  7. Finally took ownership of my new 1.9 L&K estate yesterday - so far really pleased with it. The winter steel rims are on, so its lost some of its sex appeal but its all good. I'm not sure of the correct terminology, but I've seen people refer to options for covering up the centre of the rims... the bit where the bolts are? Any advice on how, what and where I can get such a part would be great. Thanks as always, Si
  8. How much difference is there in a cat C tyre versus say a cat E tyre?
  9. Hi all Do the roll resistance ratings that tyres get really make that much difference to mpg on a day to day basis? I'm debating a winter tyre set and am considering paying more to 'achieve' a rating of C, as opposed to the E that a lot get. I am slightly obsessed with achieving a decent mpg as I HATE spending money on diesel! Cheers in advance for the opinions. Si
  10. Hi I am trying to decide whether to go for the Nokian D3 or the A3 as a winter tyre. There doesn't seem to be a great deal of difference between them apart from it suggests that the A3 is more for sporty driving and the D3 economy. The A3 seems to get slightly better reviews? They will be on a 1.9 estate. Any thoughts? Many thanks
  11. Ended up going for a mytyres deal of 16" rims and Nokian A3s for £484 all in. Seems okay. I think.
  12. Thanks all. Have gone for Nokian A3s on a set of steel rims. Job done. Si
  13. Have to say that I'm struggling to assess the advantage/disadvantage of steel rims v keeping the alloys on and changing the tyres. Buying 4 new steel rims, plus tyres will cost me practically the same as 4 17" tyres fully fitted. So I guess that the only advantages are not having to pay for the tyres to be changes over twice a year (£40 a shot?) and maybe some 'damage' to the alloys? Do alloys really get that wrecked in our winters?
