  1. Forgot to say that mine is a Mk2. Sometimes the revs rise to about 1.2k rpm at start up in which case I wait for them to drop to normal before moving off which takes about 60 seconds. If I don't and drive off it is very erratic and hiccups
  2. Mine also does this if you move off straight after start up. I wait 1 minute before driving off so the revs settle and engine isn't stone cold.
  3. I changed from the factory fit Contis to Goodyear Efficiency Grip Performance and have also noticed a big reduction in road noise and increase in ride comfort. The rolling resistance is noticeably lower also as when approaching junctions I lift of the gas at the same point as usual but arrive at the junction going faster than expected and have brake harder .
  4. Also checks the wheel nuts are done up tight enough and the tyre pressures. Did you get the tracking done as well?
  5. It will take a few miles for the grease and other stuff coating the tread to wear off and for all tyres to make perfect contact with the road, go steady in the rain if you have just has them fitted.
  6. Make sure that it idles smoothly, I had a low idle problem but a software update sorted it out. No other specific points that I can think of apart from all the usual checks.
  7. No such problems for me but you do need to depress the clutch before it starts.
  8. My 1.4Tsi Mk5 Golf did the water vapour trail as well, so seems common across the VAG group. Realy worries cars behind, some back off thinking my car is about to blow up lol.
  9. Hi malcburt, any luck in getting the problem fixed?
  10. On the warming up question, yes mine takes ages for the thermostat to reach normal temperature. I see a lot of what I would call water vapour from the exhaust when I put my foot down, no nasty smoke.
  11. Mine has only done 6k but one of the injectors failed and was running on 3 cyl. Replaced under warranty but wonder if one on its way out would cause this kind of problem.
  12. I can't comment on the oil usage as mine has only done 6k miles but it is still at the top marker point and has not gone down since I have had the car. I used to have a Golf 1.4 twin-charger and it used a bit of oil although I never had to top it up between services although I only did about 5k miles a year in it.
  13. It is not the twin-charger unit, it has a single turbo. I have a 1.4 and find it quick enough and it has a useful amount of torque, I run it on shell super unleaded and had it on a rolling road recently where it was registering 138bhp on accurate rollers, it has only done 6k miles so I'm sure it will loosen up a bit more.
  14. Thanks for organising a great day MissPiggy! It was good to meet everyone and to find out how much my 1.4 was producing. 137bhp on a standard car with only 5k miles on it means I am very happy, with more miles hopefully it will loosen up some more and release a few more bhp
  15. I think my 1.4 makes a similar sound, but I didn't have the bonnet open to heat it. Some times when I start it up after using it earlier on in the day the revs stay at 1200rpm (or there abouts) for about 30sec and it will sound a bit noisy and rough. It then settles to a normal idle and sound. I take it to be a warm up procedure or routine, similar to my old 1.4 twincharger Golf. Personally I am not worried about mine as normally it does not do that and from cold start up it just settles straight down to idle speed of about 900rpm. Not sure if this helps or not but if you are concerned then get it looked at.
  16. I have the exact same car in red. I love the low down torque and responsiveness of the 8v. I have taken it on a few tracks days although it is fairly standard and not stripped out. Engine is standard but have added K&N filter, 20vt exhaust, better discs, better pads, braided brake hoses, Eibach springs, new dampers, 20vt front ARB and rear ARB. I don't have chance to drive it as much as I'd like but when I do it always puts a smile on my face.
  17. You missed me out, I was number 21 on the list before.
  18. Yes the Elegance is positioned as the better spec model but some people may find the SE Plus spec suits them more, just depends on what people want.
