  1. Thanks for the advice. Trying to find a gearbox with a code of 'JCZ' as this is apparently the exact replacement. I think it is also a bit odd, the technician who noted it mentioned that it may of been in a minor bump before as he said its not usual for this to happen. Unfortunately nothing in the HPI check when I bought the car! Am going to try get quotes for a reconditioned factory unit, if not then itll have to be a second hand one from a breakers, Will keep you updated! Thanks again for the help.
  2. Hi all, Sad news today as I took my Fabia 1.4 diesel to the Skoda center to check out a gear oil leak thats been apparent for the last couple months. Originally they thought this was end plate and gasket but when they took it off to replace they noticed that there is a crack in the gearbox casing. They've quoted me £1110 to remove, strip and replace the gear box, and that's not even including any possible damage that may be internal! He recommended that a cheaper method of repairing this would be to buy a second hand gear box and just pay for labour on the replacement. I've been looking around and am finding it difficult to find a Fabia II (2008) diesel gear box in good condition. This may be a stupid question but would it be acceptable to put a petrol gearbox in there from the petrol equivalent model or would the gearing be all wrong? I've got a mate willing to replace for £120 but trying to find the part is proving difficult! Would appreciate any knowledge/advice! Many thanks, ORM
  3. Sorry for the late reply! Worked a dream, didnt get an airbag light either. Working 'as new'! Thanks for the advise, much appreciated.
  4. Hi all, Since buying my Fabia last year the previous owner had a child seat in the passenger front seat which caused some minor fraying of the seat belt. I've since been told this wont pass the MOT, so have been searching to replace it. Most garages/Skoda dealers are quoting £200+ for parts and labour, but after much searching i've managed to find a used seat belt (car its being taken off wasn't written off to serious crash so seat belts/air bags still fine) for £50. I was wondering whether anyone would recommend me take it to a dealers (quoted ~£50 for labour) to get the old one off and new one fitted, or whether I should do it myself using this schematic? (http://workshop-manuals.com/skoda/fabia-mk2/body/body_work/passenger_protection/seat_belts/summary_of_components_of_front_seat_belts/). I've been told it can be a "dodgy" job since they're linked to the airbags, but if it saves me some money and isn't too risky I'm willing to give it a go. Anyone have any knowledge/experience/recommendations? Tempted to do it myself but don't want to make things worse by setting of the airbags or something! Many thanks.
  5. Thank you. Ill check out the antenna connector to see if that resolves it, if not ill have to trace back the connection to the aerial to see where its going wrong. Ill try pick up one of those lazer lens cleaner CD's to see if that does the trick for the CD fault. Thanks again! Ollie
  6. Hello all, I am new to this site having recently purchased a second hand Skoda Fabia II 1.4 TDi (2009) from a friend. The car is otherwise working very well but was sold to me with a faulty radio/CD issue which I will now explain... Firstly, the radio cannot collect any find radio signals when using the scan button, it simply keeps going past all frequencies. When entered directly into the tuning it is able to get a signal but it isn't great, tends to fizz out a lot. I originally thought this may be simply an antenna issue until I tried the CD... The second issue is with the CD player. Often when getting in the car the system cannot recognize CD's which I know can work. If i keep attempting it will eventually take it, but can skip parts of a song or whole tracks at a time. The actual music played is fine but it is intermittently interrupted by a frequent noise (sounding about every 0.5sec), sounding like a loud clap/fizz. This is not constant, and varies in loudness. After driving the car for a while (i.e. +45 minutes), this issue usually resolves and the CD player works fine with no issues! It could be that these are two separate issues but just wanted to check before I start messing around trying to make the aerial better if its working okay! I would be grateful for any input anyone may have for a possible reason for this, or how this may be fixed! Many thanks and best wishes, Oliver P.S. Auxiliary input works fine without issues.
