  1. Lovely car. Interesting that you have the plastic trims over the wheel arches, which I thought only came on the 4x4 models ? hows the ride on the 19” allloys, A’s some say it’s fine, other say it ruins the ride and makes it crash over bumps ?
  2. there's a school of thought that on VW at least, the cars leave the factory with a running in map which resets itself after a prescribed set of miles. All I know if that for my last two VW Golf GTD's (one a 2013 and one my current 2016), they both felt very tight and almost restricted for the first 600-800 miles, then almost overnight it felt like something had changed and the cars become much more responsive. Was it a running in map that was applied at the factory to reduce torque during the first 600-800 miles, who knows, but I certainly felt them get much better after that mileage ?
  3. But as the Karoq Edition apparently has the wireless charging pad as standard equipment, shouldn't that mean that Edition models have 2 USB ports ? Certainly the Edition I looked at in a dealership a week or so ago only had one (at the front) and none at the back ?
  4. Until the new MPG tests are forced on manufactures from September this year, you always need to take the official figures as fantasy. These are done in laboratory conditions, with climate controlled temperatures, no wind resistance and under exacting timings and throttle response etc. The figures (at present) should only be used as a comparison of one vehicle against another, and not what you will get in the real world. Typically most cars are at least 20% worse than the factory figures would suggest (though not always). The new tests (called WLTP or " Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure"), should start over the next few years to show more realistic figures actually attainable than under the current NEDC system (which have been in place since 1992). From September 2017, any new cars launched onto the market will be tested under the new WLTP system. Existing models on sale will have until September 2018 before they have to be certified according to the new test.
  5. Wonder what specification level you need to get the 2 USB's at the front and one in the rear, or is this just something that Skoda UK don't offer for the UK market ?. My current Golf (2016 GTD) has 2 USB sockets (one in the cubby forward of the gear lever, and one in the centre armrest box (jumbo box in Skoda speak), and I find them invaluable. One (in the rear armrest box) is nearly always connected to a phone running Android Auto for my Spotify / Tune in Radio etc., and the other is then free for my wife or passenger charging their phone using the front spare USB socket. Only one data connection is allowed at any time, so my phone has to be plugged in first, then the second USB socket just reverts to power only.
  6. My wife has a 2016 VW Polo Blue GT 7 speed DSG with the 1.4 TSI 150ps engine (the earlier version of the 1.5l model), and whilst of course the Polo is a much lighter car, it never ceases to amaze me how good an MPG she gets. Just pootling to work and back it's 40-42mpg and on a run down to her sisters (about 110 miles away), driving at 70-75mph it regularly returns mid fifties mpg (once it has 61.2mpg, but that was because of a huge section of 50mph average speed cameras). If you can get high 30's knocking around the houses and mid 40's on a run, then for something the size and weight of a Karoq, i think that's bloody good going.
  7. HI all. I was surprised to hear recently that the non 4x4 versions of the Karoq have a torsion beam rear suspension setup, rather than the multi link system that the 4x4's use (and all my VW Golf's and Scirocco's have used). Quick question for those with the 2wd models, is there difference in the ride quality and handling going to this simpler set up, or is it to all intents and purposes invisible to the average driver ? I'm guess that a 4x4 version of the 1.5TSI 150ps is not on the books for later this year ?
  8. My current car (a VW Golf MK7 GTD 2016) has the heated windscreen with no wires at all. As was said above, you can certainly see in good light that the windscreen has a copper coloured sheen all over it (not sure if that's to do with the heating layer or the heat reflecting layer ?)
  9. I *think* if you have standard rear seats you get the hard type cover, and if you have the Varioflex seating then you get the retractable vinyl version.
  10. In reply to one of the messages above, I didnt know the 2WD models only had torsion beamrear end, and its only the 4wd models that are mulitlink ?
  11. Also, with the price point the Karoq is marketed for, with it's pretty generous standard level of equipment, I don't think it's so unreasonable not to expect one. To the best of my knowledge, neither do Audi or VW (unless it's their top of the tree models (Q7, A8 Arteon etc) ?
  12. Ah right so the Edition is full LED then (including indicators) ? Do we know how many fogs and reverse lights the car has ? Also, sorry one more question (as it will be several weeks before I'm able to visit a dealer), does the Edition (or any Karoq model for that point), have footwell lights (front and rear), and if they do, are they like my MK7 Golf where they stay on (in a dimmed state) whist driving and then go to full intensity when the door is opened ?
  13. Can’t seem to find any info on this, but I can see on the rear lights that the tail and stop lights are LED, but what about the indicators and fog/ reverse lights - are they still incandescent ? Also, whist I’m asking, how many fog and reverse lights does the Karoq have - 1 or 2 ?
  14. DSG all the way for me after owning 6 VW DSG's. Don't think I could (or want) to go back to a manual now.
  15. Have been seriously looking at getting a new Karoq later this year and working out the pennies, and a 1.5 DSG 150PS Edition with a few options seems very realistic. Having sat in one yesterday though, there are a couple of things I'd like to ask. I know some of these might be very premature as deliverers of the Karoq are probably pretty thin on the ground at present, but I'll give it a go none the less. 1. Anyone have any idea of what the 1.5 TSI 150PS with DSG, will return (very approximately) fuel wise. I'll be coming from a MK7 Golf GTD DSG, which on a good run can get into the high fifties / low sixties, but to work and back during the week (through town), I'm only averaging around 42-44mpg (which isn't too bad considering the power on tap) and the time of year (very cold and winter diesel). I know the Karoq petrol will get no where near that, and I'm fine with that, but would like to know if mid forties would be possible on a run, and mid thirties around the houses ? 2. I know this is very personal, but about the only thing I didn't like on the demonstrator yesterday was the silly "SKODA" projection lights on the floor when the front doors were opened. I'd much rather prefer just a plain white light to illuminate the floor. Anyone know if another model in the Skoda line-up uses the same housing shape and projects a standard floodlight and if this could just be swapped ? Also, whilst I'm at it, I noticed that the Red door light reflectors in the lower edges don't illuminate. It's a mod I did on the Golf to have active door warning lights (front and rear) and I love them. Is this a fairly easy mod do you think on a Karoq ? 3. I've not had a test drive yet (will later this year), but can anyone who has driven an edition model comment on the ride quality on the standard 19" Crater alloys. My GTD has 19" alloys however I specced DCC (dynamic chassis control) and the comfort mode setting for the dampers is really great for the UK roads. I notice that DCC isn't an option for the Karoq in the UK, so was wondering if the ride is very firm, or would I not miss having DCC ? 4. A very minor points this, but when I went from my previous MK5 Golf and Scirocco to the MK7 Golf platform, I noticed that VW had removed the feature for looking up your phone contacts in the central DIS screen in the instrument panel by using the steering wheel buttons. Instead they force you to take your eyes off the road and use menus presses on the infotainment screen to search for a control. Not very initiative or safe in my mind. I know I can use voice control but it's not 100% accurate. Does anyone know if the phone book can be called up on the instrument screen as before. 5. Finally, pretty much all the photo's I've seen on line show at least 2 USB sockets in the front "ashtray" area and one in the rear centre console for rear passengers under a small flap. However on the demo car, there was just one USB socket at the front, and nothing at the back. Is this standard for all UK Karoq's (even with the optional Canton audio system), or can you spec more ? Sorry for so many questions but this would be my first ever Skoda after over 10 years with Volkswagen, and am quite excited as the prospect.
  16. Hey Eddie - long time no speak, when did you abandon the VW fold for Skoda ?
  17. HI all, New to this part of the forum. I currently own a MK7 (2016) Golf GTD which is the current in a long line of VW's over the last 15 years (12 of them between the wife and myself). Whilst my current car is brilliant and doesn't actually need changing yet, recently my VW dealer invited me to the launch of the new VW T-Roc. Whilst it's quite a good looking beast, there were two things that I told them would put me off. First was the lack of the new 1.5 TSI 150ps engine in DSG guise (manual only), if I want a petrol DSG, I (currently) have no choice but to go for the 2.0L 190ps unit with 4 wheel drive (which is overkill for what I need and nearly £32k base to boot). Second is the plain awful interior with no soft touch plastics anyway on the dash or door cards, and making the interior look and feel very cheap and nasty indeed. What looking at the T-Roc however did do, was get me thinking about the next car, and it being a small SUV. I knew I didn't want a big car (so no Tiguan or Kodiac), but thought something about the size of the T-Roc (or maybe a little bigger) with it's slightly elevated driving position would suit me over the hatchbacks I have been running. This is in no small part due to the fact that I'm over 50 and just find taller cars easier to now get in and out of. This today lead me into out local Skoda showroom where they had a Karoq Edition sat there. Now I have to be honest and say in days gone past, I never really care for the huge grill and corporate face of Skoda's, but I have to admit, looks wise, the Karoq is the first Skoda that I can honestly say looks really nice from every angle. Whilst (according to the book) it's only just over 100mm longer than my GTD, it seems much bigger and certainly has a presence. However on sitting in the car and talking to the sales guy (who weirdly was very knowledgeable about the car - hmm never had that before), what immediately stuck me was the design and build quality of the interior. I think VW can learn some lessons from Skoda, as I thought it was brilliant with great quality plastics and soft touch areas where you need them. Couple that with the standard equipment and I think I could be onto a winner. I recently priced up both a MK7.5 GTI and a Tiguan R-Line will all the nice toys (19" Alloys, leather, power seats, sunroof, sound system, keyless etc) and it came to nearly £40k for the GTI (well £39,125 actually) and well over £40k for the Tiguan. A Karoq edition with the 1.5 150PS engine with DSG, and nearly every option comes in under £31k. That's quite a saving. I know that the GTI is much faster (don't need that these days), and the discounts available will probably currently be greater on the Golf than the Karoq with it being so new, but I'm sure that will change over the coming months. About the only thing the Karoq doesn't have (yet) as mentioned elsewhere in the forum is the Active info display instruments (that the Golf, T-Roc and Tiguan upper models all have as standard). But the sales guy assured me that it would be available (most likely as standard kit in the Edition model with a small price adjustment), from build week 22 this year (so May), which seems to coincide with what others have said. Anyway, all in all, I am left pretty stunned at how nice, well build, handsome and well equipped this little SUV is, and at a price that makes it really attractive. For me it would be a big change moving away from VW after so long, but from what I've seen, there is no penalty to be had at all in choosing Skoda over them these days. Just thought I'd state that.
  18. Anyone know what the RGB values would be for a red colour ? I'm trying this out on my 2016 Golf and so far have tried R (255), G (0), B(0) with no success (of course it could be th Golf doesn't have the multicolour LED's, but with the GTD being White, the GTI red and the R blue, it would seem crazy for them to have different coloured LED units for each model ?)?
  19. I get this occasionally on my Golf with the equivalent of Columbus i.e the Discover Nav Pro, in that over bluetooth some albums would show and some just showed a generic graphic. Basically I've been told that the bluetooth doesn't read any album artwork, but if the album being played exists within the Gracenote database (stored internally on the HDD), then it will try and match a album cover where possible. If the album doesn't exist in the database, a generic graphic will be displayed. That's what I was told by a senior VW tech anyway, and I sort of proved it by streaming 2 albums over bluetooth - one quite old and one brand new. The older one displayed the artwork where as the newer album didn't. Just to prove I then slipped the original CD's of both albums into the DVD slot in the Glovebox, and sure enough the same result, and the CD's can only display via the Gracenote database.
  20. Just thought I'd post a quick update. Yesterday my Golf 7 GTD went into the dealers to have the Navigation Pro (Skoda version - Columbus) updated to see if this solved a few issues I was having, It was upgraded from 0192 (as delivered by the factory) to 0200 (not as new as I thought it would be). Well I can report that the automatic downloading of DAB information (station logos, images, artist and album covers etc), still does not work, and when in "Station information" or "Slideshow" views, it still just displays the same tiny icon that's used for the "Preset list" view. Ah well, so much for that then. Let's just hope it solved the random navigation lock ups that I've had about 6 times in the 14 months I've owned the car.
  21. Well quick update as I've just had a call from the dealers, and to be honest today has been a little waste of time. All they did today was scan the car for fault codes (of which there were none -- I know, I checked), then wrote a report to VW asking for an update DVD to be authorised under warranty.Whilst they did say it was pretty much a no brainer to get authorisation, it might take a few days so I'll have to book the car in yet again ! So the current update is no update............yet I'll keep you posted and most importantly if it fixes the DAB slideshow issue when it is eventually done, as I'm sure it must be the same fault on VW (Nav and Nav Pro) and Skoda (Amundsen and Columbus) units ?
  22. Well, just a quick update, following on from andyvee's comments about that it may have been fixed for software 0200 onwards, my car is in the dealers tomorrow for a software update. I've had about half a dozen lock-ups of the navigation and the unit just freezing since I got it last year (so not exactly all the time and liveable), but used that as the excuse when talking to the dealer, and they confirmed my software was very old and the later one should solve my issues ? Well, fingers crossed, I'll keep you posted !
  23. No original unit as delivered with the car last September. The maps are actually up to date (May 2014), it just that it's a photo from late last year. So do you think I should be pushing the dealer for a software update ? Any idea where I'd find the change logs for the newer softwares to see whats changed ?
  24. Andy, thanks for your help, this is a screen shot from my vehicle. As you can see, my software is 0179 - I know this is a VW and not a Skoda, but is this the 01xx firmware you refer to. Strange that it used to work just fine when I first took delivery ?
