  1. Many thanks for all the advice everyone, thoroughly looking forward to this beautiful part of the UK. Will be returning mid September so will give you an update. Cheers, Iain
  2. TBH I've not even looked at a map yet. This is the desk research, next step will be the book of routes. I'm guessing that by 13.00hrs we'll be in Scotland. Any ideas for decent/interesting eateries gratefully received.
  3. My mate's familiar with the place and as we're not on the Aberdeen ferry till late Friday afternoon (having left Nottm 8-ish the previous day) it gives us some time to bimble about a bit. We'll be roughing it in the Youth (quiet at the back there) Hostel in Avie.
  4. Brilliant, ta muchly. After overnighting in Aviemore we're off to Aberdeen (8 people, 2 x cars) for the overnight ferry (what could possibly go wrong...) to Lerwick then another ferry up, up to Unst for a week. Then straight back from Aberdeen to finish the holiday off.
  5. Hi all, not been on here for a year or so but it's good to see it's still topical with plenty of passion. Still lovin' my vRS TDI Est. 14 plate, will be changing to a petrol in a year or so as I only do about 10k pa and would like some extra 'go' so popped into my local dealership the other day to make sure the 8 month waiting list has come down, the chap reckons there is no longer a waiting list. Still don't trust 'em though... Anyway, will be overnighting in Aviemore (en route to Isle of Unst) from Nottingham in a couple of weeks, what suggestions do people have for a scenic route where you can really drive the car? While I'm here would it be too much to ask for any recommendations for excellent eateries half way-ish? if I wasn't fully loaded I would expect to be getting around 60mpg Cheers in advance...
  6. 2000 miles, 2k, d'oh! 10 out of 10 for paying attention!
  7. Coincidentally I had the same problem yesterday on the A46. the road soon turned into a car park near Newark so had time for a furtle round. the rubber strip at the back of the drivers' window running horizontally had worked itself free so with some of the aforementioned massaging I moulded it back in but didn't think that could be the source of such an irritating 'buzz. It was 2000k in since March 1st first and still loving it (vRS TDI Combi) with just the odd little gripe and, yes thank you, I have remembered my mobile...
  8. vRS tdi Combi/maual/rubber mat on a '14' plate. Sorry people, 1000+ miles and definitely no boom, the only sound issue for me is wind noise from the driver's door over 70mph, apparently this can be tightened. Any 'boom' sufferers in Nottm you're welcome to come over and listen to compare?
  9. I'm no engineer but it kinda makes sense that it could be the reason for wind noise and that the doors could be 'tightened', definitely one for the dealer cos it could all go wrong rather badly! let us know how you get on...
  10. A couple of weeks after delivery I spoke to SUK Customer Services when they called me regarding another issue, I mentioned in passing the wind noise from 70mph specifically from the drivers door of my vRS being noisy, she said she'd heard of that before and that the doors could be "tightened" by the dealer. When I look down the door below the B pillar it does indeed look to be fractionally sticking out so I will be booking mine in for adjustment when I can be bothered. Still lovin' it...
  11. Thanks all! Interestingly I can see no mention of specific type pressures in the manual, I'm guessing this is a general manual for all Octy's with their various different tyre and wheel sizes so fair enough. The fuel filler flap of course has the recommended pressures but I was surprised it was only in BAR but I guess my ignorance is due to being in the same C-class for over 11 years. It also occurred to me that 46PSI in the rears when 'heavy' seemed on the high side but, hey, it's clear that wtf do I know!
  12. Always been a PSI chap and now we're in the EU it appears we've come over all BAR. So on my vRS Combi diesel 225/40 Conti's am I right in saying that I should be 35 PSI all round when light and heavy is 36 front and 46 rear? When I were a lad...
  13. Great news, been following this thread with interest having waited 5 months for my vRS which I picked up on 1st March. I also had some minor issues, certainly no comparison with yours, which KW also sorted out with terrific customer service. A little bird tells me that certain people at SUK follow these threads (which IMO is testament itself to the value SUK place in their customer service) so I hope she gets the recognition she deserves. Or he... Enjoy, still lovin' mine
  14. There was a thread on this sometime back that I read whilst waiting four and a bit months for my first ever Skoda; a vRS DSG Combi that I got on 1st March. I forgot about the free oil until I picked the car up and the salesperson mentioned it like they were doing me some kind of favour . Later, whilst scouring the manual like a sad git with a new toy  , I came across a mention of it, pretty sure it was in the manual saying that it's provided for free. Check it out but I'll have a look m'self just to make sure I wasn't dreaming. Still lovin' it...
