  1. As above really? I have all the VCDS and other VAG software. I have been trying to get my battery coded to my BMW but cannot. Is anyone local to Essex/Suffolk who can help?
  2. Hi All, I have an A3 which needs a windscreen. For reasons I don't want to go into I cant get it done on my insurance or a 'proper' company. I need someone friendly. Can anyone help?
  3. Ignoring and engine light with a DPF.... oh dear oh dear oh dear. Probably best to get it scanned with VCDS first.
  4. The reason I dont want a DPF is the fact that I have had a car, OK a PD170, that gave me hell and all issues. Also they do have a finite lifetime,seem to have very few warranties on them and are extremely expensive to replace. And when (not if) you do replace them there are no controls or regulations on the quality of them. Been there, done that, never want to do that again. I was reading up on all makes of diesels with DPF's. And there are huge quantities of scary stores of cars with 40k miles on them as 1-2 years old with DPF faliure, or them being full etc. OK many will be OK for 100k butits still a huge expense for something that isnt guaranteed. The cost of a single DPF that has a good chance of failing at 40k far outweighs the cost of running a big petrol lump in a car now. So choice for me is an old pre DPF diesel, or new petrol.
  5. Yes the MK3 looks small but is big. People at work took the preverbial out of me saying it was a girlie car etc (well it is SWMBO's) then I pointed out it was bigger than the focus, to which everyone scoffed and told me no way. Then they looked up the stats... I think reading the reviews of the Mk3 it is the car to have, beating most rivals in its class with only the Astra (???) beating it in one review I read. I still prefer the 13 year old A3 oil burner because I can seriously mistreat it and park wherever I want without a care in the world but the Mk3 Leon is by far one of the best cars I have owned, depending on what criteria I am marking it on. Oh and being the 1.9 TDi, if I run out of fuel I only need to find something that only slightly resembles a fuel of any kind to run it on.
  6. I have been saying this for ages, bigger engines are just as economical as smaller engines. Whenever I have gone from my big engine cars to a courtesy car or hire car with a small engine, I use more fuel! A colleague of mine here has a new Jaguar V8 5 litre petrol 520BHP (I think). Its sitting at 36MPG... now tell me thats bad! My old diesel VRS Octavia barely beat that! And we do the same mileage.

  8. I dont know, the Leon is a DSG and is wonderful to drive. And after driving the Leon a manual just seem slike so much effort, then again a manual is more fun, so im not too bothered. I did see this one, but it screams cigar smoking uncle theodore to me, dont know why. Mind you beggars... choosers.....
  9. 8k seems a bit steep for that, but then again 80k miles... i was thinking 4-6 depending on spec. Xenons, Sunset glass, its ticking a lot of boxes. No sat nav which seems a shame but not unsummountable...
  10. I had a DPF removed on my Octavia VRS..... it was noisy smelly smoky and I was always panicking that the MOT would pick it up. Diesels are all going out the window not the DPF has arrived as far as I am concerned. DPF's have a very limited lifetime, less so if the car is remapped or has any fault that could cause more soot/smoke. Replacement DPF's are not a controlled product, so flaky. I am not looking for an older Diesel with no DPF, or a petrol. My advice, dont remap the car and dont remove the DPF. IF you get the car remapped, get it done properly. Leave the DPF in place. If the map hasnt been done properly though, you wont know until the dreaded light comes up. Otherwise, if you want a more powerful diesel, buy a more powerful diesel. I used to be all for increasing performance on Diesels, but the DPF has killed it. Many people will say oh I have had mine done etc, but wait till the bill start.

  12. Yes, I am thinking a PD140 (2010?) L&K, providing I can find one circa 100k miles or less.

  16. Oh really, so probably the 2010 Elegance PD140 would be the best. The L&K is 170 isnt it?
  17. Hi All, I want an estate car, with a Diesel engine with no DPF. Can anyone tell me what engine to go for? Audi A4 Avant PD140 up to 2008? What about the V6's?
  18. I get 42mpg driving it 20 miles each way 50:50 country lanes and minor A roads, I suspect it would be a lot better on a run. MPG drops is its raining, hot and dark because of the electrics and air con, but on a cool dry day its really good. And the stop start is something I have gotten used to, you can control it with the brake pedal so not the big deal lots make it out to be. The interior is far from plastic and brittle as some have said. It is easily on par with the A3 it ousted, and the Octavia I got rid of. My only grip is the power sockets, there is only 1 and it goes off with the ignition. It could do with 2 in the cabin and 1 in the boot for me and my family. My Octavia had that, though the A3 didnt. But the Octavia and A3 power sockets were permanent live. Much better.
