  1. To redress the balance slightly, I ordered a set of rubber floormats from Superskoda five days ago, and they arrived this morning, no problems.
  2. I looked at most of the boot liner options, ie Titan, Rhino, Roofbox, Custom Covers etc, but ended up ordering it from Bootbuddy: http://www.boot-buddy.com/ProMaxLiner/PromaxLiner.asp IMHO, it makes the others look rather cheap. Mind you, in comparison, they are.
  3. I would like to keep my new Octy 2.0 Tdi for a good few years, and I am anxious to do everything I can to look after the new engine, so the question arises; is 10,000 miles too long a time to run a new engine without an oil change? An argument for an early oil change: http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/how-to/saturday-mechanic-blog/how-to-break-in-a-new-car It suggests as early as 20 miles. An argument against: http://forums.edmunds.com/discussion/3906/general/x/first-oil-change This argues that the manufacturers know best, and that the metal content left in the oil of a new engine is actually beneficial to the bedding in process. What do you think?
  4. From the dealer: £141.67 for the tow bar prep, and approx £400 for a detachable (VAG) tow hook that is invisible to the rear parking sensor.
  5. Is everyone else happy with this concept? Maybe if you have bought a second hand car and dislike the colour, but to shrink wrap parts of a new car seems a little bizarre to me. It reminds me a bit of the mid 70s fashion for vinyl roofs - maybe this will come back!
  6. apologies, pipsyp, a misunderstanding, I thought you were suggesting that the DPF cycle could be turned on at will.
  7. pipsyp, I had assumed that this was automatic, is it a switchable option?
  8. Thanks Dilly. Really useful thread, and like octavia5, I have ordered the 2 bolt kit from Amazon.
  9. Probably a silly question, but how does a rear tow bar affect the Lane Assist, which operates at the front?
  10. Is it more to do with the benefits to a tight engine of a variation in RPM?
  11. Thanks for the advice, folks. Having waited 3 months (I know, nothing compared to the vRS wait) it would have to be a fairly substantial problem for me not to drive home with it!
  12. Second your comment on this, classic. Diesel cylinder glazing is typically a problem on sailing boats, when the engine is run under little or no load, such as charging the batteries when at anchor. I would have thought that cruise control, whilst giving a constant speed, still imposes a significant load. However, it is recommended to vary the speed during running-in, for reasons unconnected with cylinder glazing.
  13. I shall be collecting my new 2.0 TDI Elegance Combi at the end of the month. I decided against free delivery; I would rather travel up to the Midlands to get a chance to look at the car before parting with the balance of the purchase price. However, I will not have as much time for a careful examination of the car as I would like. I know that any problems can be (hopefully) sorted by my local dealer, but does anyone have any advice as to potentially serious problems/deal busters that I should be looking for? What are the most important things to check? Any advice gratefully received.
  14. Pick up confirmed, 26th March. A longish drive up to collect, but really looking forward to the return trip with the new car.
  15. Wonderful. It seems there is some justice then...
  16. The looks of the combi sold itself to me I had not actually been looking for an estate, but I could not resist it's better looks coupled with the bonus of the luggage carrying capability.
  17. In approximate order, but often overlapping: 850 Mini 850 Mini van 1198 Mini Cooper Mini Clubman VW beetle (LHD, 6 volt) VW beetle 1300 Triumph TR4A Ford Escort Citroen BX14 BMW 320 Mazda MX5 Citroen C1 Landrover Defender
  18. Mine is now in the UK. Somewhere. Looking at last week of March to collect....
  19. Steveh3, is that the tow hook in the eps block to the spare wheel?
  20. Well, CJS , I can only repeat what my dealer has said to me: `The tow bar fitting will have a 13 pin connector. This will be suitable for any item that uses this connection. And have all the functionality that a 13 pin connector should have. As long as your caravan has a 13 pin connection to run all the things there in then the tow bar we supply will be all you need.' Hopefully I will know for sure in a week or three. I suppose I will have to put a meter on the 13 pin connector, does anyone know which pins handle the split charge, and what current/voltage there should be with the engine running?
  21. Perhaps Skoda central assumed you would never leave Guernsey?
  22. The only advice I can give is avoid SAGA; they send me a quote annually which is way above my renewal premium.
  23. CJSVRS, I think they are available, or at least my dealer has assured me that a 13 pin outlet will be fitted to my new Octi combi - I refer to you an earlier thread: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/304960-factory-tow-bar-prep/
