I have a 2013 Roomster 1.2TSi 84bhp model with which I'm very happy. Having recently acquired a 1938 Royal Enfield 250cc S2, I'm now thinking about the possibility of getting a towbar fitted to haul something like a Motolug trailer to take it to events. The bike is perfectly roadworthy but with a 35-40mph cruising speed and 1938 style brakes, it's not totally suited to modern road conditions.
I believe the towing capacity for the Roomster is 450kg unbraked and 1000kg braked. 450kg would be ample as the trailer is 65 kg and the bike is something like 200kg. I was wondering who's had a towbar fitted to their Roomster. Discussing this with a local towbar specialist, it's feasible and the electrics can link up with the CANBUS somewhere near the ECU. However, the independent specialist where I get my servicing done reckoned the car would be a bit underpowered. The extra weight I'm considering pulling is not much heavier than a couple of rear seat passengers. I'm a complete novice in this area, having never towed anything before. Ironically, I downsized from a Mondeo estate - with a towbar! - to the Roomster, which has proved to be about the right size of car for what I need.
Looking for some advice and suggestions. Thanks
Mark
