  1. Thanks Liger, that helps greatly, I wasn't aware the spray nozzle came from the top on estates, so I will definitely need the hatchback variant with the pipe going through the spindle thankyou
  2. Just a quickie...are rear wiper motors on estate and hatchback mk2 the same motor and fitment? Cheers
  3. I agree, my Octavia has had 3 with cambelts needing replacing every 40000 miles...it's not what I signed up for when I bought the car. Originally it was 80k...then VW halved it. Its cost me around 1500 quid on top of the car. I much prefer the chain cams. I have 20yr old Nissans running chains with 200k on them..no issues. VW could match that but they don't because they factor in unreliability to keep you coming back to dealers or replacing cars after a 3 years. VWs are just money pits. I also had a five year old Audi 1.8t again another shi#box with sludge in engine, new injectors, alarm, all rubbish going wrong.
  4. A ♥ byIf youre a PD fan like me and you bought a 170vrs because you love the whoomph power delivery... just wondering what cars are people getting after these that give equivalent push in the back?...I dont really want something thats linear like the CRs..i enjoy the the old skool turbo winding up...but mine is now 10yrs old so wont be long before a change...but wondring what ?.
  5. Went to a fastfit in Bletchley MK to get rear brakes done on PD170 DPF...at same time they offered a service, i was due for one so agreed providing they put in correct long life oil in. .never again. On checking receipts, they've put in triple qx (low saps) c3 oil that looks like VW505.01 spec not 507.00..... Do you think it is okay to run on this for a week or so...as i have it booked in at a vw specialist to put in proper oil but not til next week...thoughts...cheers.
  6. Just had the VRS delivered back today on a flatbed from a paint shop and had a new headlight fitted...I wasn't there to take it but have just got into it tonight....check out the photo, it says my mileage is 95 TRA, none of the interior lights are working, radio not working - so doing some googling, it has gone into "Transport Mode". Can a car automatically do this on a flatbed? So, can anyone tell me, with them disconnecting the battery, 1) has this reset my odometer back to 95 miles? aaaagh....also 2) how the hell do I get it out of transport mode..? I really dont want the hassle of having to have the odometer reprogrammed with my old mileage, I cant believe they would return it like this....NATIONWIDE AUTOCENTRE BTW - Not my friggin choice. Cheers for your help in advance - Doing my head in as been waiting 2 weeks for a car that now doesnt work!
  7. You sir are a great man, you've just saved me a trip to the garage on a saturday morning with a holiday looming, after an hour or so of torture wondering how he hell to get the window up following it being stuck due to having a baby's sun shield on the window which prevented it from going down. Top Man THANKS all sorted!
  8. I hated episode 1, but episode 2 and watching extra gear was better. Yes Evans is coming across as a tit, but, having watched every episode of the older series, I have to say episode 2 wasn't too awful Its easy to watch Old Top Gear episodes and to forget a few of those weren't that great and a bit predictable at times , consisting of 3 blokes being paid a hell of a lot of our money to travel to the places we can only dream of, May would always break down, Hammond would rear end him regularly or there would be the latest race against the British Armed forces. So I'm going to wait til episode 3 before making too much of a judgement...Episode 2 was made before feedback from episode 1 was received so hopefully they will take on board everyone's concerns for number 3. It all seems its going to be very PC...which in a country obsessed with PC, the old episodes were a nice break from sterilized TV.
  9. You know how you can bond with a car... Don't get me wrong, I'm not talking licking bonnets or fondling exhaust pipes, but it's just nice to have a car that you remember fondly, a car that regardless how it looked, how your mates took the mickey, or even if it let you down on occasion, you never really fell out of love with it. Please don't reply with supercars if your lucky to have afforded one, that's not the point, So I'd like to mention 2 Cars today proper anti-hero Honours: 1) Nissan Micra K11 1.3L (not 1.0L) (with lovely big wide wheels - an absolute necessity) I'm now on my third one. Used as a shopping cart/works vehicle. It's dented, bruised, foam coming out of seats, plastic bottles, sandwich packets, old cans in the back seats, but by god that car is a little champion! It all started when I saw an article on Bangernomics and thought I can do that...I was fed up with DPF issues on the VRS Tdi on short journeys. so about 7 yrs ago I bought my first for £500 R-reg .. it lasted 3yrs...a little welding under the sills and it flew through every MOT with total maintenance/servicing and MOT costs of about £300 over 3yrs and insurance of £25 quid a month and £77 for 6 mths road tax...I part-exed it for £250 and bought another for £400....scrapped that a year later for £125 and bought another one one for £500.... so all in all I've spent well under a grand in 7 years on purchase price. Happy times and with wide alloys and a change to the control surfaces, this thing is a little go-cart and easily keeps up with your regular modern micro-cars, with wide wheels and new shocks in the corners it handles round bends very well indeed. It's just so simple, manual steering, bulbs you can replace in 2 minutes, nothing costs more than about £100 on it as so common and easy to service yourself. Yes you will laugh, but it's a lovely little car you feel at one with, totally connected with the road and the equivalent of 2 monthly payments on a new car:) ...Yes its not my only car, but its a great little machine, lovely engineering and proud of the Brits who made it up north. So that's car one. 2) Rover 420GSi turbo (badged as a 414i) - (square shape Honda era) - Ohhhh I hear you say... My oh my, what a heap this thing was...K/L/M-series engine, (if I remember) when it wasn't leaking or needed a head gasket, but boy did it shift. Yes your typical old man bodied car....a car during my youth, I wanted a comfy sleeper car, This would annihilate some really expensive performance cars of the time..and a great choice in my budget...If you ever tried one (in that era) you will know how well it would pull...It was a very light car, on a private track, knock it down into 3rd at 50 and the needle would be up to a ton maybe 5 or 6 seconds later, proper shove in your back turbo stuff....okay I admit I have rose tinted goggles... but those in the know will know how well these things went, Walnut dash, real veneer!!, velour seats, sunroof, cassette player, what more could you want! This was a brilliant car in a straight line when the engine wasn't blowing head-gaskets or leaking radiators it was like a pig ugly girlfriend who really knew the ropes in bed. It couldn't corner ( I think I had 175x14s) on it, but what a lovely comfy sleeper and a car and anyone who was a passenger would ask what has this thing got under the bonnet? Awful looking, totally unreliable, no street cred whatsoever, but how well did it go (for the budget I had!). Have you got an old cronk you loved for the silliest reasons?
  10. My next car will defo be Japanese too...You cant beat em. VAG have lost all credit in my eyes following emissions and now skoda dealers treating customers badly...I would love a Lexus or a nice Honda....I drive a Honda regularly and it just purrs, you literally can't hear it on the motorway, lovely engines.
  11. I've just had my spoiler repainted by Kevin at KGB body shop in Winslow, Bucks, great job, good price, anyway, yes there was the start of a little rust under this too, so must be common...I just cleaned it off and touched it up.
  12. I thought I would tag this on to this post...as it worked brilliantly for me: Its a guy called Narcis and shows how you can do this mirror indicator change without removing the mirror glass which can be fiddly having had experience. Read my additions below before you do it and it might help you do it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUenlCzYPdY Additions 1) I used an old credit card/store card worked perfect for getting at the rear edge clips (side at bonnet end) to remove the cowel casing.. 2)KEEP the mirror glass parallel with front mirror edge when taking cowel off. 3) Slide card in the rear til you feel the clips, then use nails to separate it 3 or 4mm...next, the secret is to pull the cowel out and away from where it joins the mirror bracket near the window carefully pulling it away, lifting it at the back and twisting it over the mirror glass carefully- TAKE YOUR TIME....you don't want to be forking out for a mirror. 2) You need a thin torx screwdriver, I think its 3 or 4mm across if I remember 3) Unlike the video, Use the electrics to move the mirror to get to Screw 2 - Dont remove screw 2 from its hole - you dont need to. 4) Check the screw holes on the new part are the same as the oem part, mine were a little tight, so be aware... Anyway Hope that helps, It is a good solution and Quick!
  13. I have a couple of cats, I've tried training them to walk on leads but it ain't happening....Try empty plastic 2l bottles, my cats hate going near them.
  14. I've seen some shoddy hexagonal grills from Superskoda, will try to avoid. I also bought a Skoda front badge Amazon from West Midlands Auto Parts, was completely wrong size and was a rear badge even though they quoted the front badge reference in the advert. Its not on, and the issue held my build up for a week sorting it out....glad I got that off my chest...yes so I wouldnt use them either.
