  1. It gets worse. Seems to be an intermittent fault - yesterday was fine agan; today the bulb warning light comes on as soon as I hit the brakes. I've checked in shiny building and the warning light is correct.
  2. That's a great walkthrough and has convinced me that I don't want to do this myself.
  3. The rear centre brake light has stopped working on my Superb Estate. Any idea how to replace? There's no sign of any fixings on the exterior and attempts to prise it out quickly start cracking the cover. From Octavia, threads, it looks like you have to remove the interior trim on the upper half of the tailgate. So how do you do that? Or is this one for a dealer?
  4. Thanks, I didn't know it is a new engine. So there is at least there is some basis for a real improvement.
  5. Superb III shows a marked improvement in the claimed fuel consumption comared with that of the previous model: Combined cycle 68 mpg for the TDI 150 against 52 mpg for S II. There are similar improvements in CO2 figures Now before anyone says, I know that these figures have only a limited relationship with real world figures. However, that is still a phenomenal improvement. Brochure claims for Octavia and Passat are similar. Is there really a huge efficiency gain in the latest models? Or are VAG just getting more aggressive at gaming the official test to produce the best-looking figures?
  6. I've done a quick price and spec comparison of my preferred option (TDI 190 manual 2WD) and they are pretty close. The Superb is no longer a value for money option
  7. A few years ago, I did an informal comparison of the premium petrol in my Passat 1.8T. There seemed to be a consumption improvement of about 2-3% which was similar to the price differential at Sainburys. 13p/litre extra for the premium fuel just isn't worth it.
  8. I see that failure of the spring tension is fairly common. Anyone come up with a solution that doesn't involve a new load cover?
  9. I've certainly noticed that the lights don't always come on when unlocking in the dark. It hasn't bothered me enough to post - more a curiosity about why.
  10. You might want to check that. I priced up a new Octavia with spec comparable to my Superb Estate 170SE and I there wasn't a lot in it at list
  11. Ditto. Used them for previous cars (not yet needed wiper blades on the Superb). Quick, good, competitive prices
  12. Pirelli P7 fitted from new to my 170SE Estate (standard 17" wheels) Replaced front at 25,000 miles; rear have plenty of life left in them
  13. Check mileage in the service book. Renewal after four years also seems to be being recommended now, even if you haven't hit the mileage. If yours does need doing, it can be worth checking on eBay. I've seen dealers offering attractive prices (well, much less than the normal price).
  14. Thanks all for the responses. I think I just need to live with it and discount the reading.
  15. I’ve had a niggling suspicion for a while that the fuel consumption shown on the MFD didn’t look quite right, so I’ve tracked it over a couple of months: The MFD shows cumulative consumption over the last 3000 miles to be 55+ mpg; distance recorded and actual fuel purchased comes out at just under 51 mpg. Anyone else experienced similar discrepancies? If I ask the dealer to look at it, will I get any anywhere?
  16. Worked fine for me on a Bolero head unit. A bit disconcerting because nothing at all showed on the screen while the upgrade was running, and, worse, there was no sound on cd or radio. Next morning, all was fine. The skip seems to be gone and on shuffle play, the track names now show correctly. Not yet spotted any other changes. Thanks to Gavin for posting the link. Happy to loan a MDI/USB cable to anyone else who wants to try it.
  17. Any idea whether this is also applicable to Bolero units, or do I need a different upgrade to address the same things?
  18. I went down this route through Carquate. Ordered June 2010, delivered November 2010. Saving was about £3800 from list for SE170 Estate with various extras. Like JB, car was driven to me, and I too expect to keep it for around 10 years. Six months not yet up, so don't yet have the V5.
  19. Mine is on its way at last. Getting it on Thursday next week from an order placed in June. Quite a surprise to get a call to say that it had arrived - the last update was for early December. I make it 21 weeks from order to delivery.
  20. I went through Carquake for around £3800 off list on a SE170 with a few extras. The car will be pre-registered to a fleet company and I won't see the V5 for about six months. The car will be mine from new. As I anticipate keeping the car for about 10 years, I'm not too botherered about being the first owner. My local dealer tried very hard but still was more than £1000 higher. On the downside, I'm still waiting - car ordered in June, delivery now scheduled for December.
  21. Superb Estate 170 SE - steel grey options - bi-xenons - rear side air bags - upgraded audio - MDI Ordered mid-June (wk25). Originally 'promised' for September; then put back to beginning November. Latest estimate from supplier is delivery to dealer early-Dec Another thread mentions Skoda UK customer service now stating that delivery time is 19-20 weeks. A colleague who is considering an Audi Q5 has been given an estimated delivery date of April.
  22. Just been advised delivery to dealer 1 November for a car re-ordered in mid-June. Original order was placed in April. Very disappointing - starting to wonder whether I actually want the car.
  23. Ordered mine through carquake earlier in June (delivery due in September) The second registered owner thing is a fairly common way of getting extra discount. Manufacturers give extra discounts to fleet buyers who are not allowed to dispose of the car for 4-6 months after supply. UK car discounts also do this and I think that Autofinders do the same. For me, £3800 off list - £1300 better than drive the deal or the very best that my local dealer could manage is worth the being the second owner.
  24. I looked at both before ordering a Superb, although the truth was I’d probably made up my mind first. My thoughts were pretty much the same as the others voiced here. Much more space in the Superb, and a newer model. What responses did you get over on the Seat forum?
  25. Just had my order - placed in April - cancelled by uk car discounts. Some excuse about not being able to deliver until October or later. GRRR
