  1. I've just been out and jacked it up again, ARB seems all good, gave it a really good shake and no movement. Went for a drive and drove for a good five miles with only 2 knocks. It happened when going over a small pot hole and when coming out of roundabout (bit of weight transfer and half a turn of lock on). Also I heard that the damper on the passenger side (where the noise is worse), is quite 'hissy' when I bounce it up and down when compared to the drivers side. Could they be the problem?? Cheers
  2. Ok cool, i'll try that. What about that hex fitting thread in middle, does that do anything?
  3. Ooooh interesting, how do you tighten up??
  4. Haha yeah sorry forgot to say, they are reasonably new, less 20,000 miles on them. Gave them a decent shake and couldn't find any movement :(
  5. Hi Briskoda forumers, Unfortunately my Fabia has an ongoing clunking/twanging noise at the front. Its a very temperamental noise, sometimes it'll never happen on a journey and sometimes it'll clunk 5/6 times in a few hundred yards. Its done nearly 140k. It has been to a VAG specialist and he could not find anything wrong. Symptoms: Over bumps, not necessarily potholes (most cases) When turning round a roundabout, not slow speed turns (again, very rare in this case) When I accelerate hard in second and come of the power (front of car dives, this is also quite common) I've been under and checked: Top mounts, there is a little bit of movement in them, few degrees either way. Is this normal?? Console bushes, seem ok. Drop links changed recently (high quality ones). CV joints, cant really tell. Boots aren't split. Steering seems tight. Ball joints seem tight. Engine mounts? They seem very slack and bouncing, could this be the cause?? So shall i change the top mounts and see if that helps? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Will
  6. Ahh thanks but i'm right down near London :/
  7. Hmm true, i'm very low on funds however and would only like to do that if the other had actually. I'll also have to pay for full alignment as well if I do that and i've only just had that done! Also selling the girl when I start my new job :/ i will look into it though
  8. Hi everyone, My rear nearside spring has just snapped at the top end, so what i want to know is where is the best place to get replacements asap (gsf and ecp out of stock) and whether I should replace both at the same time? Cheers
  9. Yeah thats what i'm thinking too! Think i'll just leave it for now, heading to see a new car anyway tomorrow haha
  10. So i've just checked the pressure again this morning and there was a lot there, big hiss etc. I also smelt the coolant and smells almost burnt if that make sense, not like fresh coolant at all! Is it still worth my changing the tank??
  11. Ok thank you I will! I fear the dreaded head gasket!
  12. Yeah there's usually a tiny bit of pressure left but nothing like when its hot!
  13. Yeah there's no mayo in the oil cap or white smoke. There always seems to be moisture around the bottom of the expansion tank so i've just bought a replacement and will fit it. See if that helps! Thanks
  14. Hi guys, Did a track day last year, first time i'd properly ragged the car, was black flagged to find steam coming out of the wheel arch and from around the expansion tank. Ever since the car has needed a coolant top up every 200-500 miles as the light starts flashing and beeping at me, could this just be a cracked expansion tank? And has anyone had this before? p.s. ive checked elsewhere for leaks and cant see any and there is no 'mayonnaise' in the oil etc. Cheers
  15. Have thought about tracking but don't want to waste time and money if something is broken. Console bushes done 2 years ago
  16. As above, I have noticed uneven tire wear on my front tires (inner edge wearing away badly). I also have slightly wayward steering, very susceptible to camber and grooves in the road. I also get the odd knock over speed bumps. Do we think this could be the ball joints?? Thanks
  17. Hi, i've got this really annoying creak/grawnching (if that is a word?!) noise when pulling away in my vrs. It happens every time i pull away in 1st and then as i accelerate in 2nd and only under say 20mph. Its most noticeable in slow moving traffic, when creeping on the clutch (holding it half way or in and out slowly) and comes from under the passenger footwell ish. Can also been heard when sometimes turning. The noise also goes away in the wet which leads me to believe its maybe an engine mount bush? do you agree?? if so, which one would be under the passenger footwell ish?? Cheers in advance. p.s. parts changed: console bushes, arb bushes, drop links and the top mounts have been checked.
  18. I didnt clean the sump, sump only 10 months old. And yes I fitted a new plug and washer
  19. Yeah i have briefly looked at the back of the sump for oil but couldnt see any. I had a local mechanic fit the sump for me last year and no i didnt i'm afraid, probably should have!! The plug did seem to go in very easy tbh!!
  20. Yesterday I serviced my vrs that has recently had a new sump. I unfortunately do not have a torque wrench so have not torqued the sump plug but have done it up as tight as I see fit, but its leaking. I keep doing it up more and more, tiny bits at a time but i don't want to do it up any tighter and its still leaking!! Any tips to stop it leaking?? Maybe a sealant of some kind?? By the way its a very slow leak, probably 10 drips overnight last night. Just driven 40 miles and it dripped on the journey. Cheers
  21. I do lots of stop-start dual carriageway stuff, terrible for mpg. But do the odd cross country or motorway drive. Usually get 42 from a tank, or 47 with more mixed driving. Drove back from kent last night, I got 54.5 on the trip computer while my friend in his v8 s4 got 24 :p
  22. could be the tyres still, mine did exactly this and it was diagnosed as a warped tyre (not round bascially) so changed the tyre and bobs ya uncle
