  1. if your gunna get major work done go to a dealer where manufacturer parts are used and the technicians are specifically trained on a brand. I know they can be expensive but who you want fitting a timing belt, a back street garage taking notes from a book all can get or a skoda tech who has been on multiple training courses and upto date skoda technical alerts. For example i work for renault the petrol timing belt tensioner has been modified where the spacer needs turned round( on manufacturer parts ), and if this isnt fitted correctly the tensioner will fail and snap the belt. Backstreet garages wont of known this when it first came out. But a dealer technician would of known. Remember you aint paying for the shiney dealer showroom your paying for the technician knowledge. Hmmm gone off track basicaly say your not happy with the work your local garage does take to a dealer, your local garage will have to pay for repair costs.
  2. Headlight replacement does not mean its been in a accident, the headlight could of been faulty so got replaced. Also the date stamps could just mean the car was made at the begining of 2013 so 2012 parts were still used.
  3. sounds like bearings in the turbo are worn. Mine does the same thing but louder, it only seems to do it when the car is warm (thinner oil). Its heartbreaking when the wife drives off after dropping me off somewhere its all i can hear all the way up the road. its the next thing on me list to do, just done a/c condensor and had a coolant hose burst :( . ive just done short of 100k and its mapped so cant complain
  4. Fook if that was mine i would be wanting a new wheel (if any signs of damage) not refurbished, new rear disc and pads and backing plate, new n/s/r hub due to wheel bolts rattling round causing the threads to possibly be weakened. I would also be wanting a new rear axle as even a 1 mm distortion is gunna cause havok with rear tyres in the long run. Hell i would want new mud flaps if there was one mark on it. Basically i would want the car back in the condition it went into there in the beggining and i would expect it done as they have accepted liability by taking the car back
  5. My advise on this matter is dont do it yourself if struggling. But if you insist on doing it make sure you get a new sump plug bolt and tighten it to the correct torq as the washer on the bolt snaps/cracks ( its a 1 time tightening bolt ). Your sump guard will have been off in the past just the bolts are open to the elements under the car causing rust on the bolts, I took mine off last week to do me aircon condensor and they looked like crap (last off 2 month ago). Also no proper garage sucks the oil out on a service they all remove sump guard and drain as it also helps with inspection of the lower engine/rear of the engine. have fun
  6. cheers for the response, i kinda needed someone to say no because i have the habit of buying crap as it is shiney then get all the problems later ( i should know better by now).
  7. So ive been looking at radios for me 2007 vrs and found this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ES1089SGB-WiFi-3G-7-SKODA-OCTAVIA-2012-Car-stereo-Sat-Nav-DVD-RMVB-iPod-Radio-/111203035136?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item19e437a800 the question i have is it says 2012 octavia, but will it fit into a 2007 or did skoda make a cheeky little change to the radio when doing the facelift. also does anyone have any experiance with this head unit this does look cheap but it has all the stuff ive been looking for thx in advance
  8. To make your car pass mot all you need to do is remove the insides of the dps filter so the original pipe is still there, thats all what is looked for on dpf's during mot (done the course last week) and obviously emissions arnt through the roof
  9. Fuel wont play much factor into the internals of your fuel pump breaking down internally (unless your running red diesel). You can try changing the fuel filter but this will just prolong the inevitable cost of a new fuel system. The car is just out of warranty by less than 3000, if i was you i would play holy **** with skoda customer services and they will probably give you a good contribution towards the repair especially if you have bought many skodas over the years. You could probably pay a assessor to check your car out to get a independant second opinion. You can make the repair cheaper by reconditioning the injectors, removing the tank and cleaning it inc low pressure pump, cleaning the fuel pipes from the tank to the pump, also cleaning the fuel filter housing. you will still have to buy: high pressure pump metal fuel pipes from the fuel rail/pump to injectors fuel rail fuel filter hope this helps i have dealt with this problem on renaults for many years this will probably cut your costs in half especially if you supply the parts your self and take to a non dealer reputable garage
  10. sounds like the drivers side wheel bearing from your discription, i often get people telling me the wrong side of where the noise is coming from as the sound travels to the other side
