Hi All, in trying to remove my rear wiper (a task i have now accomplished!) i have lost the nut! could anyone tell me the thread size to get a replacement? Cheers Dazzler

HI All, been a while since i have been here since getting my self a 5 series, my old skoda vrs has been sat for a year and a half waiting for my wife to pass her test, that time is now approaching (after a break in the middle for another baby!) so having been sat this long, (apart from every month or so being started and run up and down the drive) what should i change and service before an MOT? my current list is: OIL + Filter Break Fluid but what else? im going to take off each wheel and make sure the calipers are still moving ok (breaks work but are a bit scrapy... due to lack of use and rusty discs) any other recommendations? still cant seem to see anything out of place on mine, the noise on mine is more like a flapping noise and happens only between 2 and 2.5k RPM after that it goes away, does sound like something flapping until there is pressure to hold it, it has been doing it for 20k miles so maybe i should just live with it :p

Mm that is worth a check. Will see what one are looking like if I can get to them...

I don't think its a turbo on the way out, it sounds more like a boost leak, just have not found it yet. good shout on the EGR though, I'm hoping to get this off for a clean this weekend if i get the time, hopefully I will find something....

Only just seen this topic, I have what i think is exactly the same issue, still trying to figure out what it is, it sounds like a boost leak but i dont seem to be getting excessive smoke, mine does use a little oil though (approx 1 ltr every 2.5k miles) did you find out what the problem is? ok so all sorted, 2 hours and the help from my tame mechanic friend (basically i was passing tools... he is the pro!). The 2 bolts next to the bell housing... well lets just say i owe him 2 mini extensions bars (now wobble bars) and a 10mm socket... the worst part is those 2 bolts where also a bit mushed as clearly someone had a go before us... the bits of swarf from the threaded plug in the sump and caught in the pickup mesh was rather scary.. hopefully none of it made it into the oil pump... also on another note the trader i got the car from provided me with invoices for the service and the parts and all the contact details for the garage that did it, including an invoice for an extra replacement sump plug as "the one that was fitted was leaking".. oh well! (sounds like they just stuck a new plug in and figured that was enough, or they tried to remove the sump and failed, hence the mushed bolts..) all sorted for now anyway, till the next lemon issue :P Cheers Daz

ha Fabia ownership so far has been a pain in the arse! going to get a sump ordered tonight and hopefully that will get here Friday and me and a mate can fit it on Friday night/sat morning and we only loose a day of holiday... i am wondering what will go wrong next :P still on the list to fix is leaking rear doors and the aircon! So the 6 months that i have owned my fabia vrs have not been without fault.. in fact there have been several .. (wrong size spare wheel, Leaking radiator, seized rear caliper, electrical issues and it has used 3ltrs of oil in 10k) So this weekend me and the wife are going away for the weekend and the car is due a service, tonight this was the task... So after jacking up the car and removing the undertray, there is fresh oil next to the sump plug.. I get a spanner on the plug and it is loose , it takes almost no force at all to crack it off.... After removing it and letting the oil drain it is clear that the sump has been cross threaded and a new sump is required... This does explain the oil loss though. (i thought it was the turbo on the way out..) the sump plug is literally rattling round in the hole no idea how it did not dump it's oil earlier! This means that the dodgy garage I bought it from either serviced it and left the plug like this or they never serviced it at all... So now I'm car less ment to be going away in 2 days. So what do I need to do the sump other than the sump itself? How easy is it and where best to order? See them cheap on ebay at around £30 Any thing to watch out for and what gaskets will I need? Where do I stand with the garage? anyone with a legal mind? I bought the car in March and have had a few probes for sure... They are getting shouted at tomorrow either way! Any ideas or assistance appreciated! Cheers Dazzler

Just to add as for driving. I have a 20 mile commute to work on Cornish A/B roads so it is mostly 40mph... Maybe that is the prob!

Ok so maybe I won't panic just yet. My mates golf uses similar for the mileage. Will panic when it uses a ltr a week! Cheers Daz

Hi all. So my fabia vrs (2005 asz) is using a bit of oil. I have put 3ltrs in the last 10k miles. Should I be worried? I'm about to do a service on it (prob next weekend) I cannot see any leaks other than oil from the intercooler pipes and egr (never been clean and no elephant mod) I have read that oil coming from the egr means the seals have failed. Does this have an oil feed through it? I thought this just let exhaust gas in? Or does it do more? My guess is that the turbo oil seals are leaking but it does not seem to smoke much. I get a bit of black when booting it and grey smoke on start but that's about it. (other than a couple days ago I had some blue smoke on start but not a lot and its the only time it has done it.) So any ideas peeps ? How much oil does your vrs use? Cheers Daz
