  1. I have driven my superb 1200 miles to and from Slovakia a number of times. My wife likes to cram the car FULL of stuff for the trip back (and the trip there this time for that matter. I don't know what the exact weight was, but I would guess it's somewhere near this limit. I normally drive top speed without the heavy load through Germany (around 140-150 as much as I can), but kept my speed to a limit of 120 with the heavy load. No problems at all and home safe and sound.
  2. So it doesn't matter about the wattage then. Guess I'll just look for whatever looks good and hope for the best
  3. No worries man, been a great help anyway, thank you. Hopefully someone else can shed some light on it?
  4. Ahh thats perfect - so are they really that bright then that you have to cover 2 banks up? I'm also looking for an alternative to my reverse lights, i know they're meant to warn other drivers that i'm reversing.. but would be nice for them to give off enough light so i can see where i'm going if i'm reversing down a dark lane, for example.
  5. Forgot about this thread - so took it to the skoda dealers in slovakia (zvolen). Cost me €53 for diagnostic and wheel balancing on all 4 wheels (we hit something in france which caused a huge amount of vibration) AND scrubbing all the rust off all 4 hubs under the wheels, absolute bargain. Initially they couldn't find any of the faults (not even the airbag fault came up). It turns out that it just needed to be plugged into the diagnostics to reset everything, the whole light system worked perfect after this.
  6. I'm not even sure how to answer this. I'll just say if you don't understand it, don't comment.
  7. These look really good... I'm assuming you remove the entire housing for these to fit in? How do they connect up inside?
  8. Hi guys, I have a question about the number plate lights. I purchased a set of 3*1w Cree xpe number plate lights from one of the main bulb supplies and I have to say I'm hugely disappointed with them. I would go as far as to say they're not even as good as the standard type Osrams I previously had in there, plus they were meant to be canbus and of course they flagged an error only being a total of 3watts (3*1w Cree). So my question is this. I have found a few high power 5 watt Cree bulbs online... Obviously I'm going to find the best I can. But because they are 5 watt output, will that mean they will not flag an error on the dash? Or am I missing something? Really longing for that crisp white number plate look, without the error.
  9. Okay, I'll go check that when I get the chance. You know what I mean about the travel mode not working though? You can see the light beam start to move, which happens for maybe a quarter of a second and then goes straight back to its starting position again.
  10. Hi guys, having a problem using my travel mode on my superb. I've travelled to Slovakia for a little break and have recently taken my car out of garage having a lot of work done. Sent it in a few weeks ago and has taken so long that in the end the job was rushed and few other problems have arisen as a result. My biggest concern is the headlights. I flicked it to travel mode the second I got off the train in France and had no idea it wasn't working until it started getting dark in Germany. Once the headlights came on I started to get a lot of flashes off people, some of which were really nasty about it and followed me for several mile with the full beam on before giving up... Not really appreciative of this since I have a baby in the car, however at the same time I understand the reason they're ****ed off. Anyway, after this happened a few times I pulled in to check on the travel mode thingy. Went into settings and checked it was on, said it was so I turned it off and back on again. On the wall in front of me I could see the pattern try to change (literally moved a couple of mil) and then go back to its original pattern again, so something is definitely up. Had no choice but to continue our journey as our hotel was still a few hundred mile away. When I start the car the lights do the little self test dance so I'm really stuck as to what the problem could be? The law in Slovakia states that I have to have my headlights active at all times day and night so this is an issue I really need to sort out as soon as possible as I can't keep driving like this. On top of that the drive back home is going to be equally problematic. Would really like to know what the problem is and if I can fix it myself as would rather save the money as i've spent well over £1000 on it over last couple months and SWMBO is already tired of me spending money on it. Many thanks in advance!
  11. Apologies for the late response to this, really busy with baby and building a new living room. Anyway, I have just finally got it to the garage and I think the guy is trying to pull a fast one. First of all, it isn't a leak he pushed a screwdriver into the valve and it looks as though the refill I had a few months the back is still there, pumped out it did. Now, he claims it's the compressor valve... Which is fine, but he also claims vag group do not source the valve separately and I will have to buy the whole compressor (£300!!!). I have sourced one quickly on eBay for like £37 but am unsure if it is the correct one. Does anyone have the part number or even better, can someone point me to a link where I can buy this part from? Taking the car to the guy right now and yes gonna double check to see if it is the valve, will also let him know I have found the valve sold seperately on eBay, but would much rather give him part number or let him know where he can buy it from. Thanks in advance!
  12. Okay will do, is it expensive to fix a leak? And do you reckon this is what it sounds like to you?
  13. Hi guys. Been having a problem with my aircon for a while now. It started cutting in and out randomly about a year ago with the awful smell that comes with them sometimes, so last summer I got it regassed, was really low according to the guy. It worked alright for a couple of days but then went back to cutting in and out again and has been like that ever since... Of course with that awful smell as well.
  14. I was thinking exactly the same thing. You could get it chipped for a tenth of the price and have a much more notable performance increase...I'm really not sure what their idea was there.
  15. Okay, panic over. I have resolved the issue. For future reference and for anyone else that has the same problem, the resolution is to hit the microswitch under the boot latch at the bottom and to hold the right button under the boot (to switch to hatch mode) for 2 seconds, the side locks will pop back out like they should.
  16. Had a problem with the locking mechanism that I have now fixed... after standing back proud of the work I've done and gone to try and close the boot the side locks are stuck as if it's in normal boot mode but I'm actually in hatch mode... as a result I cannot get the boot to close at all :( I have tried to trick the boot into thinking it's in boot mode thinking they might pop out, but they don't.. Really need some help on this one as I'm stuck with my boot open until it's fixed. Thanks in advance!
  17. Hi, I have to do this job later today... is it blatently obvious where I have to glue the pin, or do I have to think about where it needs to go? Much appreciated.
  18. Awesome, thanks guys. Gizmo, how come there will be loads popping up shortly?
  19. Sorry if this has been asked before, but I just want to be clear before going ahead and purchasing them.... I am due to drive across Europe this Christmas (yeah I know, i'm nuts) and need a set of alloys and winter tyres, yet no amount of trawling the internet and the forums has given me a definitive answer. What exactly am I looking for? From what I have gathered 16" rims are the best for price and actual usefulness, but what other aspects am I looking for? Or am I okay just buying any set of 16" VAG alloys that have 5 studs in them or what? Bit confused with it tbh, I see the ET rating and width etc, but it means nothing to me! Help, as always, is very much appreciated
  20. God... wish I never read this thread now guys.... so want to do some of these mods myself now :(
  21. Good shout, completely overlooked the Mobius as I didn't like the design, but if it does the job alright then I have no complaints. Hadn't found that website no, had been getting most of my information from dashcamtalk, but that techmoan is quite interesting, Dare say i'll be using that and other places in the very near future! I have no idea how to hard wire these things, should be fun :p Thanks for the info dude, much appreciated.
  22. Really wasn't sure which forums to put this one in, so thought I would try this one... seems about right to me! I am on the hunt for a pair of decent dash cams, one for front and one for rear. I want minimum 1080p for both as well as Parking mode. Preferably I would like to spend more on the front one as that is the one that will probably be the most useful, however if I can get something really awesome for back and front then I don't mind buying two of the same. Unfortunately I am looking at abut £120 budget all in which leaves me with very limited choice. The only camera that takes my liking so far is the Mini 0805 currently selling for £82.50 with the hard wire kit on combi.. and that really doesn't leave me much for the rear camera at all. I have looked around for a cheaper price for the mini but with very mixed reviews I don't think I will be happy buying that else where for cheaper. I have been on the hunt for hours now and really can't decide what else to go for, I could probably stretch an extra tenner or something if I really must.. but thats about all I can do. Any help would be much appreciated!
  23. Thanks for the answers guys... after thinking logically about it, technically being a manual..it's not a wonder that it will creep forward... and doing a bit of reading on the vw forum too it seems it's definitely a design feature. Thanks again guys... I'll wave this in his face :p
  24. Just as I suspected. But what about creeping when you lift foot off the brake?
  25. I borrowed my superb to my brother-in-law a few nights ago to do a run to Birmingham and back. Upon return he tells me that he thinks there is something wrong with my gearbox in normal drive mode. Everything is perfect in sport mode. He says "sometimes, not all the time, it changes gear too early" which he feels is over labouring the car. I tried to explain to him that A. It adapts to your driving style, so if you have used the brake or accelerator harder, for the next few seconds it will hold the revs longer, and that B. When it changes gear "too quickly" it's trying to save fuel. But he's just not getting it. On driving it home last night under normal driving conditions it would change gear at between 2 - 2.5 (and return to 1.5 every time in new gear). I have noticed on occasion it will dip below 1.5 to nearly 1... but it is rare and only under certain conditions (of which I will have to test and get back to you). Normally I would dismiss this completely, however he's not an idiot.. he was a car mechanic going back 10+ years ago. And I'm hoping he just doesn't know too much about DSG. He also stated that when stationary in drive and lifting foot off of brake pedal the car creeps forward, saying that this is not normal either... now that is something I don't know about. So what is the norm? Is he right? Is my DSG setup wrong? Or is this the way it's supposed to be? Personally I have had no problems with it at all, I love the way it reacts when you're coasting and jumps into play when you put your foot down.
