  1. On the actual doors at the top on each edge there's like a rubber/felt seal that runs along the top of each door that overlaps itself, you need to ensure you get the silicon grease in the join line all the way along each door, tight right to the edge on each door. My doors creaked and despite everything else, this sorted it out for me.
  2. Thanks, will keep you posted on the experience although so far so good and managed to crack 62mpg already on a very long drive from Bedford to Bournemouth. There's certainly elements of the Pug that are very good and some not so although the latest 308 did really well in the reliability surveys and came close to being in the same league as the OC3 and if my VRS was anything to go by, that's not a bad thing. The 308 GT feels a little more refined than my VRS although softer suspension does play a part on the good old brits roads! The pug engines good too, 300flbt and 180bhp with a half decent auto box makes for relaxed driving. 70 mpg is the quoted combined and on 30k miles a year we'll have to see how close or far we get to this in the real world and over time. New car policy is age and CO2 rated so I had to get car under 1 year old and under certain CO2 to stay on current rate and allowance, max period until I'd need to change again is now rated at 4 years rather than 3. I was offered the right deal to change outside of a skoda dealer so had to go with it. I did try to go for a VRS TDI although the dealer network were a joke, even post VW scandal, and made no effort to offer me a decent deal, in fact I'd go as far as saying some were just plain arrogant. Plus I'd need an auto and looking at the VRS (which I'd wanted to go for) or even a Scout for that matter, the numbers just didn't stack up - largely impart to the abysmal px value on my car. I'll keep you posted, however the VRS mk3 will always have a soft spot for me and to date is by far the best car I have ever owned.
  3. I think it's already been sold so might feature on here soon although I had Superchips peg it back a little to be safe.
  4. Had a large part to play, really wanted to keep it and thought them long and hard for a few months over it, however when allowances and job are put at risk it's not worth fighting. Really fancied looking at the car you've got, Golf GTD although budget couldn't stretch that far, however did end up with a lot of car for my money, new Peugeot 308 GT 180 HDI. So far so good, not as good as my Octy although the margins are getting narrower between these cars now and the build quality on the Pug has come on by a country mile since I last sampled a French car.
  5. Nope, was a tad gutted and even asked if I could trade my car in against a diesel and source privately, they weren't up for that and neither were skoda at the time, not interested in offering me anything more than £11-12k for my car which was a 63 plate with 42k miles on the clock. Luckily found the right deal and trade in value elsewhere.
  6. After a change in company policy (despite the VW diesel scandal), my beloved Octavia VRS TSI DSG has now gone to pastures new. I'm now driving a company car. I just wanted to thank the forum, which is second to none, for everything, it's been a blast. The VRS has been the best car I have ever owned, did 42k miles without hitch and loved every minute, still miss it now even after a couple of weeks. The only things that let the experience down to be honest was the dealership and after sales, the car itself was faultless. Enjoy your motors all, great cars.
  7. Seems that the VW Group are masking the truth, can't ever believe they'd do that to sell more cars Opinions on the following welcomed; http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-34298259
  8. I wasn't as lucky with either my Galaxy nor Mondeo although friends have had far better luck than me with their Mondeos which have been totally reliable. Pot luck in the modern car world I guess. Ford dealer network may suck and I can give you plenty of examples where they have although I have to say some of the Skoda dealers think the sun shines out of their arse and they owe you nothing! Ford do make some seriously good fwd chassis's so I'm sure the new RS will be mega. As for Chavvy, yes re the last RS and definitely re the new Honda R. I have though been very lucky with my mk3 Octy, 43k miles and totally happy, not missed a beat and feels as if it will go on forever although there are many not in the same boat as me! Having 330bhp+ does help put a smile on my face every so often and all I need now is a decent LSD at a reasonable price and that will wrap the package up nicely, although I couldn't sell if I wanted to anyway as my car is now only worth the cost of a packet of crisps with the typical ****e depreciation hitting the mk3.
  9. Yeah, congrats guys and welcome Ash to Skoda/Seat/VW or a combination of all those cars knowing your Dad
  10. Totally agree, £28k for 345bhp & 350flbt, 4wd, 5 door hatch is going to make for a very rapid machine and knowing Ford it'll be a hoot to drive. Not only is it bloody cheap compared to say a Golf R, it's also nearly as cheap as a VRS, has VAG lost it's way somehow in terms of pricing? I would though still take a VRS R (IF ever they made one - very unlikely) with 300ps over the RS any day of the week, largely because of the endless issues I had with all the Ford's I owned and looking at the reliability stats, they haven't got much better. I also much prefer the build quality of the VAG stuff too.
  11. Really looking forward to the meet this Thursday,.................. Wait a minute, it's been postponed by a week, oh well, I'll be there hopefully, however postponing a week just so we can say we have another new member is taking the 'p', although no doubt it'll be a cute one at that
  12. I'm glad you asked as have been driving around in mine for 42k miles and wondered what the hell it was for
  13. Thanks guys for the responses. Rotating not an option at this late stage and as the fronts are on 3mm, I wouldn't want that tread depth on the rear with the wet weather we get in the UK. Possibly go with putting the winters on a month or so early in the hope the fronts can take it with me doing 2k miles a month.
  14. I've had several GTI's and have to say I don't agree that the void is as big in terms of build quality between the VRS and GTI as some have said, sure the GTI is better albeit the gap is a lot smaller in terms of interior quality. My VRS is on 42k miles and not a rattle around at all, I have a colleague with a MK7 GTI and his has been a tad un reliable and suffers the odd annoying rattle on 38k miles, go figure. In the right hands the GTI and VRS are too closely matched in real world conditions to tear apart in terms of performance. It then surely has to be down to personal preference/needs and to which you'd have to go and test drive both to find the answer as what others like, you might not. I've had both and ended up with the VRS who's trump card may be practicality, however it's simply a great all round car that seems to tick more boxes than the GTI ever could for me, that of course is only my humble opinion.
  15. So front summer tyres are down to 3mm and will need replacing soon, however I have my winters in the garage so question is, would you put the winters on early or change the fronts to new summers now and put the winters on in November? Just don't want to pay out twice for fitting if you get my drift?
  16. Valid question, I'm sure Hurdy will be back to comment, I've followed some of his stuff and think the guy knows what he's talking about to be honest. I've run my TSI mapped for the last 25k miles without a problem, I'm now on just over 42k miles and so far so good, no issues with the box. Mines pushing out over 368flbt and 330bhp with no other mods. It's also still able to achieve 40+mpg which is insane considering the power on tap. Hops this helps.
  17. That's why I make a point of having mine dyno'd on a few machines to get a comparison. Although to me it's more about how it performs on the road, after all with all that power, it's more about in gear than out right 0-60 dash.
  18. Not sure it would if on a level playing field considering a stage 1 mapped TSI kicks out 330bhp+ and over 370flbt, either way both very quick cars.
  19. He is, and even though the nuggets take a very special place in our hearts, what would the meet be without our much loved comedian
  20. Many thanks for this, will keep this in mind, however as the car has now been used more this week, it's back to working 100%,...will keep an eye on things!!
  21. 41k miles in and no issues with my DSG box, plus over 20k miles of that has been on a remap running over 330bhp. Would definitely recommend the TSI engine as quite a corker of a unit when mated to the DSG (pre or post remap) and surprisingly economical when you want it to be. My work maybe changing their car policy, however the next car I have would include the DSG box, fingers crossed they don't change the policy though!!
  22. Liking that a lot, how do you find the ride compared to pre having all this done?
  23. I can always tell my air con is running especially when car is idling, wasn't sure if it was clutch or clutchless, however at least we now know I will have to try and dig out that trick as that'll at least give me a start point??
  24. I believe the clutch on the compressor does engage as you can actually tell from inside the car when engine idling, just odd it's done it twice, can't seem to replicate it either so the dealer won't have any joy, probably come back with 'computer says no'! The only other thing I can think of is due to holiday the car hasn't been used as much as usual, I normally do about 700 miles a week and the last week this has happened I've only done about 100 miles or so??
