  1. Just clean it Jaskoas, no need to block it.
  2. Ha ha! I do have a sense of humour, I just didn't find your post very funny lol. This one was better though.
  3. So yours sounds louder too then? Wonder if my turbo isn't functioning correctly? No Mr Smarty pants. If you actually read the post correctly I know it's more powerful and I've stated that in my post but 20bhp isn't a big difference in the grand scheme of things and I wouldn't have expected it to feel that much quicker. I suggest you re-read my post as I asked questions about the turbo specifically and the turbo noise but also how much better breathing the Golf seems to be over the Fabia.
  4. Thought I'd ask this in here. I did a car swap with my old man today as I had an errand to do and I couldn't get all the gear in the Fabia VRS. The old man's car is a PD150 GT TDi Golf (MK4). The first time I ever drove it, years back it was rapid and I was impressed with its power however I last drove it a year or so back and it felt massively down on power. I did some research for the old man as he can't use the WWW lol and from what I can remember it was a pipe of some kind, boost pipe maybe that was causing it to be low on power and blow out loads of brown smoke. Anyway, I drove it today as he's since had it fixed and it's much quicker than the VRS, especially in 3rd. It pulls far better and feels as though the air is pulling in more freely and that it's breathing better. Something else I've noticed is the turbo makes a much louder sucking noise than mine, I'm talking 3-4 times as loud, and it sounds great where as the VRS' you can barely hear it when you accelerate. 3rd in the Golf is much much louder. Is it just through having whatever pipe it was replaced that's made it force more air in, and is the loud whoosing/sucking noise normal? Just another question, is it a far more powerful better turbo that's on the PD150 in comparison to that which comes with the PD130? Just find it hard to believe the difference in power considering there's only a 20bhp difference in power between the two cars. Want mine to sound like that, mine feels very restricted and sluggish at the moment. :(
  5. Hi mate, There's a place in Llandudno called M&S automotive, they're an Audi and Honda specialist and they did my cambelt last month as they're pretty good with VAG cars. There's also Wilsons in Rhuddlan near Rhyl who are a VAG independent specialist.
  6. I disagree. A slightly harder ride would surely improve the firmness of the car and re the gap, the gap is already massive as it is. The MK1 looks horrible on the standard alloys where as it drastically improves the car's looks on Spiders, just my opinion of course. Re tyres, look at Bridgestone RE070's. Had them on my DC5 Type R and they're a great tyre. £70 from Camksill, very chunky tyre though at 225 width but they look great.
  7. That's quite an increase, bet it feels rapid to drive compared to before!
  8. Already been done mate, had the belt done 3 weeks ago. £300 is just for the camshaft kit from Darkside who recommended getting the full thing done or don't do it at all as I won't benefit from just getting the followers done. I will likely get the EGR cleaned and an oil & filter change done at the same time so including labour I'm probably looking at nearer £500.
  9. I haven't mate no, I'm not a mechanic sadly but it's booked in for next Monday to have a look see what's going on. Darkside developments have recommended replacing the full camshaft kit and that's £300. Was hoping it wouldn't have to come to that as I can't afford it but they've said either do it or don't do it. If I replace just the followers I won't be gaining anything as the camshaft is likely to be worn. :(
  10. Ah cool, wasn't aware it was the turbo that was restricting the power further, 170 is a nice power hike and I'm sure it feels nice even on a standard car. Hoping to get mine remapped early next year. What is the power feel like once remapped, is the delivery more instant and linear?
  11. Something I don't get with VAG cars is with remaps, all the mapping places just seem to do a generic map i.e stage 1, stage 2 etc whereby the end power is all similar. No one seems to be able to fully remap a car to its maximum potential, for instance a stage 1 seems to generate no more than 170bhp on the Fabia VRS and this seems similar across the board and most cars. Although all the same car I'd have thought a decent mapper would be able to eek out a little bit more power from one car to the next, or am I imagining things?
  12. Thanks for the info, I'm going to get it booked in and checked out.
  13. I can't sell a car that's making a noise like that can I? It sounds terrible, even more so when you're closer to the car.
  14. I'm back, and so is the noise sadly! Did it again yesterday after a couple of short journeys too and from work and again just now. Once again the noise stopped after I took it for a quick 15 min run, seems getting it warm cures the problem but I don't want to be driving a car that is going to sound horrendous after every short journey so for that reason I'v decided to get it sorted. Can anyone confirm if this/these are the part(s) I require please, Also are they a strengthened part or just a replacement for OEM? http://www.darksidedevelopments.co.uk/products/ina-black-top-camshaft-lifters-followers-for-vw-1-9-2-0-8v-tdi-pd-engines.html Once repaired, is this issue likely to resurface again? If so then I will likely bin the car off and get a petrol as I can't be doing with the hassle. I appreciate that diesels aren't built for short journeys but I don't use the car that often but I need something more reliable, was expecting better from the PD engine tbh. This is what the noise sounds like in case anyone wants to have a listen. Thanks.
