  1. Air cleaner changed since the engine clean, this made no difference. I'm my own mechanic so I guess I cleaned because, in my experience, dirty mechanicals go wrong (as do, it transpires, clean ones) Has no one else experienced missing and a noise that sounds like a petrol engine pinking?
  2. I'll have a go with electrical contact cleaner Thanks Mick
  3. That's probably the answer then! I thought there was a Haldex clutch for the front wheels and for the rear wheels. I was sure I'd seen a reference to it somewhere but, there you go. I suppose the front wheels always drive and the rear ones get added when it detects slippage. Many thanks Mick
  4. Hi I washed my engine down a few months ago. I used gunk and a gentle garden spray rather than a pressure washer. Ever since the engine has been prone to a misfire when cold (and particularly when damp and cold) under load until the engine gets warm. Thereafter it's fine. My theory was that there was damp in the connectors to the piezo injectors. I've taken these off and given them a WD40 and it seems to make it better for a while but it always reappears. Has anyone else any ideas please? Thanks Mick
  5. Hi Does anyone know how to change the haldex oil in the front (I've done the back) of the car please?. I've a Yeti 2.0 tdi cr 170 bhp. Thanks Mick
  6. Thanks (sorry about delay). I'll buy a Dayco and have a go. Let's hope that, if you can do it, I can too!
  7. I'm considering doing this myself but, although there are good Youtubes on other models, can't find a procedure specific for the Yeti. I'm mostly unsure about how to get to the engine bracket to remove it (and supporting the engine once it's gone). Thanks Mick
  8. Thanks for that Techie. I'm a bit confused though as I can find the drain plug for what I thought was the differential (but not the filler). The drain plug is underneath the drive shaft flange at the gearbox end.
  9. I had this problem on my 2012 MY Yeti TDI 170. I bought one of these for £30. It sorted the problem and only took an hour or so to fit. No need to drain the A/C system. https://x8r.co.uk/air-conditioning-a-c-delphi-compressor-5n0820803-audi-vw-seat-skoda-repair-kit.html Their theory is that the centre Torx 30 screw comes loose and the splines on the shear plate eventually wear smooth as it wiggles about and so there may well not be anything wrong with the compressor itself. Hope this is of some use to someone. It seems to work at the moment suggesting that the compressor is OK. Mick
  10. Hi I serviced my Yeti 170 TDI 2.0 today. The only thing I have left to do is to check the level of oil in the front differential. I've tried torches, mirrors, touch and swearing but I can't find the fill plug. I have the Rough Road Protection kit so it might be obscured by a bit of that (although I removed the under engine tray in order to check the gearbox oil and drain the sump). Can anyone help? I was using the photos at http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?5692616-VW-Tiguan-2009-Changing-Haldex-Differential-Manual-Transmission-and-Engine-Fluids as a guide but to no avail. Thanks Mick
  11. Does anyone know how to remove the top of the trim?. I have all the screws off and the poppers popped but it won't let go where the door trim touches the window. That's the first of my problems. I've sealed the door carrier in the past but it's leaking again so this time need to take the carrier off and seal it with conviction; this means drilling out the rivets. Unfortunately they appear to be blind rivets and the 'pop' is still in so they won't drill out! I do love the way they ruin nice cars by money saving construction. Mick :-|
  12. Hi Courtesy of Derbyshire County Council's road maintenance programme I dropped a wheel into a pot hole and it's bent the rim (and I'm about to get a new tyre). Anyone know of any (cheaper than dealer) source of new alloy wheels? Thanks Mick
  13. She's using the key that the dealer supplied with the new ignition lock - it worked when she picked it up and a couple of times afterwards. I'll get her to ring the dealer but I suspect they'll not be interested. Is there an easy check on the immobiliser? Thanks Mick
  14. Hi, My daughter's felicia 1.3 won't start. It fires and runs for a second or so and then dies. The AA guy thought fuel pump? She's had the locks (and ignition lock/key) replaced recently after somone nicked her keys - could the two be connected? Grateful for any ideas - thanks
