  1. Has anyone wrapped the trim in the door cards on an L&K spec car at all?
  2. Been searching for a while now on web and can't seem to find info I need! Need to top oil up in wife's 1.9 Octavia tomorrow, just thought it would be useful to know just how much oil from minimum to maximum on the dipstick so I know how much I might need to add should it be low! I know on dipstick on my Astra and in manual it says 1L from min to max but can't find anything in the Octavia manual to help. If anyone can help would greatly appreciate it.
  3. Sorry to bump an old thread, but the pictures don't seem to be showing. Does anyone have a how to on removing the centre console/dash trims for wrapping at all?
  4. We are glad it was sorted so quickly, one garage we would usually use in town said he couldn't get it in for 2 weeks! Guy who fixed it is a young lad who's recently opened his own garage in town, heard a few people say they wouldn't trust him, but then surely how can you not trust someone if they haven't done any work for you! Will definitely go back to this guy in future with our cars, seems the only thing he can't do is MOTs!
  5. Car is now back home and fixed, found a garage in town who fixed a similar problem before and knew exactly what it was when we explained it to them, they came and got the car first thing, it was back by just after lunch, £30 later Thanks for all the help and advice here guys!
  6. If I'm entirely honest I'm not confident with doing the work myself, if I did I wouldn't have the time to either, I work 5 long days during week so weekends is my only chance, car needs to be back on road in the next few days to be honest, the other half needs her independence!
  7. Thanks for the quick reply, fills me with a bit more confidence that it's a relatively cheap repair compared to a new clutch or gearbox! I've looked at the snapped parts and they look the same as the black bit in the 2nd link. When you say about replacing the pedal or getting it welded, what exactly do you mean here? It's going to be a garage job, just want to know what I am talking about so I can tell them what it is when I ring them?
  8. Just got home to the other half arriving in style ... After some advice here, clutch pedal gave way on her coming off of a roundabout changing from 3rd to 4th gear. There is some plastic which has snapped off from somewhere behind the dash/above clutch pedal and the pedal is stuck to the floor, you can lift it up but it springs straight back down again. Anyone had this before and know what it could be? Car is a 1.9 diesel Any suggestions on what could be the issue would be appreciated
  9. Car was signed over to us last night, insurance put in place which means I can now drive the Octavia myself. Took it to work today and left the Astra at home for the other half. First impressions ... MPG ... wow - double what I would usually get from the Astra! Not a bad car to drive, nice and easy. Finally got round to getting all of the bits I need to change the headunit, hopefully will get this done towards the end of the week. Couple of pictures after parking up at the station:
  10. I have Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta's fitted on all 4 corners of my Astra estate and to be honest can't fault them. Seem to be very hard wearing, rears have done 15,000 miles and still have alot of tread left on them. I would stick away from Kumho tyres, had them on the front of my Astra, they were awful in the wet. OK, it's not got a massive amount of power (140bhp from a 1.8 petrol engine), but it didn't take much for them to spin up on even the slightest bit of damp on the road. As for Nankang NS2's, I borrowed a set of wheels from a mate as a temporary measure whilst mine were refurbed and they had NS2's on them, the road noise was pretty bad. I've heard other people say the same too!
  11. Blimey, good to hear these things last. Cambelt is due again soon, was wondering if it was worth doing if the engine didn't have much life left in it, but if it could do another 100,000 then I suppose £300 roughly is worth spending compared to having to get a new car if the belt on this one went.
  12. Old thread, yes, but we could be up for a meet in Peterborough, only 30 mins from home for us.
  13. And at least that way then if something does go wrong and it doesn't work then its simply a few £ to buy a new one I suppose. Thanks for all your help, will get the bits ordered and give it a try and see what happens. Will report back once it's all sorted
  14. We use a company at work who used to be called Manga-Fu, however are now called WEEE Stop. We don't have a contract with them, we just call them whenever we have enough stuff to warrant a collection, although I believe they will collect as little or as much as you have to go. Their website - http://weee-stop.co.uk/ I believe they can destroy hard drives without the need of wiping them, and can also provide an inventory of items they have taken for destruction, and also can provide serial numbers of equipment too.
  15. Sorry, bg244? It's been well looked after, oil change religiously every 10,000 miles without fail. We are the 3rd owners of the car, its just clocked up 176,000 miles. What kind of mileage do these tend to go to until major things start going wrong like the clutch or gearbox etc?
  16. Thanks for all the welcomes I've yet to drive the Octavia, but as a passenger have to admit the ride is alot smoother than the Astra. Although the other half tells me she prefers to drive the Astra is it is "quicker" (her words not mine lol) In time I only have 2 pictures of it, and both are from the same angle! Will get out and give it a wash at the weekend
  17. OK, will get the bits ordered and give it a try. I've used bullet connectors before when I installed the sub and amp on my previous Astra so know what I am doing with them. What part of the wiring is it best to fit them, on the ISO adaptor so I'm not faffing with the headunit or car wiring?
  18. Thanks for the reply Harvey. I had completely forgot about the CD changer in the boot, makes sense now. Assume just unplugging the blue block and hiding it away behind the centre console somewhere is ok? As for swapping the wires, I've heard of people doing this before on Astra forums plenty of times, but never had to actually do it myself. What is the easiest way to swap the wires? Like I said, never had to do this myself in the past and don't want to go messing anything up!
  19. Interesting reading this. I have sport mode on my Astra SRi and don't often use it at all, infact I very rarely do use it. Mine being a petrol there is a noticeable difference in the throttle response when turning sport mode on. I have found driving in town with sport mode on is horrible, it makes for a very jerky drive in stop start traffic. Much nicer and smoother drive in town in normal mode.
  20. One of the local villages near me has a neighbourhood speed watch set up, to us it seems to be a group of old folk with nothing better to do other than sit at the end of someones driveway right where the speed limit increases out of the village from 30 to 40. My other half got caught by them 3 years ago in her Colt, which she has now sold. She then got caught there about a year ago in my Astra. Both times the registered owner of the car received a letter stating how very naughty it was to be going ever so slightly over the speed limit in their village. I believe if you get caught a 2nd time then the police will take action. Not quite sure what they can do about it as it surely is their word against yours. I personally now every time I drive through said area, keep to the speed limit. I do anyway when driving, but an extra cautious when I know these people could be about.
  21. Hi, Thought it rude to come on here and post for the first time and not introduce myself. Joined up this afternoon as I am looking for some information on upgrading the headunit to an aftermarket one in the Octavia estate we have been given by a relative. The car itself is nothing overly special, a completely standard Octavia estate 1.9, 02 plate with around 176,000 miles on the clock! It's the 2nd car we desperately needed, so there was no way we could turn it down. Only picture I have at the moment: My other half has been driving the car, I have not yet had the chance to as I am not on her insurance yet, however hopefully that will all change soon so we can both drive it as and when we need to. My daily drive is a little different to the Skoda, its a Vauxhall Astra 1.8 SRi with full factory fitted XP kit. This is now my 2nd Astra I have owned since 2008, I'd always said after owning my old SXi that I wanted the estate with the full fitted XP kit, so I just happened to go out and buy one. The only thing I regret now is not getting a diesel as my daily commute is costing so much in the Astra, hence why I am hoping to be put on the Skoda insurance pretty soon! Few pics of my Astra: I have tried to keep it as standard as possible seeing as there isn't a huge amount of these on the road, and partly for the fact I don't have the money to spend on this car like I did the old one. Main changes I have made from "factory" is, window tints, vinyl wrapped grill and wind deflectors, as well as an Alpine headunit, and sub/amp install.
  22. Hi All, Have been looking into upgrading the headunit in our 2002 Octavia estate to an aftermarket one as the standard cassette deck isn't quite up to what we want. Have been given a single DIN Pioneer headunit from a mate, he didn't want it, was sitting around in a cupboard at home so he has given it to me all ready to get in the car. Been looking online and have a few questions I wanted to ask to make sure that I am buying the correct wiring adaptors for the car. First off, the ISO wiring, this is the one I have found on eBay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/291006215604?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 Now, I've taken the standard stereo out and can see the brown and black plugs which I am familiar with from previous headunit upgrades in other cars, but what happens with the blue block? Am I looking at the right wiring harness on eBay, or do I need something else? Secondly, aerial adaptor, is this the correct one I need? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400508663378?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 And lastly, does the stereo require a fascia surround? I have looked at the headunit myself which is in the car now and to me it looks pretty much the size of the one going in. I have seen on eBay people sell fascia surrounds for the age of Octavia we have, just don't want to have to buy one if we don't need it. This is the one on eBay I have been looking at: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160785385762&ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:GB:1123 And this is where it will be going if I need one: If anyone can help on the above it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
