  1. No - the suggestion to change the injector seals came from a garage when I mentioned the issue, the car was then taken to a diesel engine specialist who changed them. I did not check them myself so unfortunately cannot give any information on how to check their condition.
  2. Longest delayed reply ever. Apologies. Just to close this out, yes the car has been fine (in this respect) ever since these injector seals were replaced.
  3. I had a intermittent problem with long, long cranking before starting after a few hours (usually overnight) of not using the car. hadnt noticed any correlation between amount of fuel in tank and difficulty starting. Turned out that it was the injector seals, I think it can leak fuel from them.
  4. Repaired the same issue with my Fabia, thanks for the help of this thread. It is a terrible design, not enough slack in the wire and wire not flexible enough Some pictures to aid other people with the problem attached. Initial symptoms of the issue are occasional non turning of the starter when you turn the key, jiggling the wire helps it start. When I went to repair mine after it finally gave up it snapped right off when I went to pole it. The wire was in a terrible shape, the strands of the wire exposed, corroded and dirty. Re-soldered with a new section of wire with a bit more slack on it. thanks
  5. If you mean wear like this : http://www.oponeo.co.uk/tyre-article/saw-tooth-tyre-wear had it like that on my 06 vrs rear tyres. I got new fronts, put the front ones on the back and got rid of the rear tyres and problem has yet to re-occur. Also solved the drone noise that that kind of wear created. The link above explains why it can happen and it may not be down to the shocks. Perhaps the tyres on the rear had this wear already and putting them on the front just enabled you to feel the wear pattern through the steering. You may find leaving them on the front sorts out the wear more evenly, although if its affecting grip you may not want to wait for it to sort itself out.
  6. Nice job. Do any gaskets / seals need replacing as part of the reassembly? Thanks Andy
  7. Surely the term would be Pedantry level: Guru
  8. sorry to hear that, will bear this in mind. Couldn't see any of these. mind you the cars pretty filthy underneath.
  9. To mop up the blood when the car falls off the jack and on to me, or to dry my tears when it falls off the jack and damages the sills?!!
  10. I have a '06 BLT. There were two filter sizes on Eurocarparts. I got the big one, it was wrong! You'll probably be wanting the small one.
  11. Nice one, thanks very much for that. Just what I was after. For others future reference, image from user manual attached.
  12. Hi, I have the desire to swop front and back wheels as the rears have noticeable stepped wear / castle walling. Unfortunately my money pit Fabia VRS didn't come with a manual, so I am unsure where the proper jacking points are for the standard jack that comes with the car. I Didn't notice any big arrows or clear markings under the sills that would indicate the correct position. Anyone know the correct positions, or have an image I could see please? Cheers
  13. VRS '06 17 mile each way commute a roads and motorway with a bit of congestion every now and again long term average 57.9mpg (according to the trip computer) managed 80mpg on a 80 mile trip motorway only sticking behind lorries at about 56mph goes down a lot if stuck in traffic check if your handbrake is binding if mpg isnt good. even a bit of a bind makes a noticable difference.
  14. For info, I got quoted today; genuine water pump and belt kit fitted, dealer £380, Independent £340
  15. Sorry to hear this story. Thanks for putting it all up here though, a useful reference. Hope you get it sorted. A couple weeks back my mrs car got minor rear end damage from some dozy **** who drove up the back of her. dozy **** gave false details, police not interested, pursued claim with insurance but then realised, due to stories like this, highly likely to be contested as no photos, no witnesses so backed down. Luckily enough in our case the damage was minor enough (small dent, no structural damage) to not to have to go through the insurance. Might pursue it myself by getting the details off the DVLA, if I can be bothered dealing with the arse that did it. Really frustrating though the dishonesty of many of the people on the road and the insurers trying to worm their way out of everything. You would have thought that this was clear cut! Best of luck with getting it all sorted
  16. Right... Seems like the problem has gone. Its been starting OK for over a week now. I have had the injector seals replaced which seems to have cured it.
  17. The thing is about the Fabia VRS is in my opinion it fills a gap in the market. I paid more than I wanted for mine, but what other car has this going for it? - percieved reliability of PD130 engine - Diesel engine for decent mpg on long trips - relitavely good performance given the mpg - size. Its really small and can fit in small parking spaces. really important for some. - as for the 1k premium for the SE - well its a nice shade of blue! also strikes me, a lot of 8+ year old cars are just holding value well at the moment, not just the fabia, though the fabia vrs seems to fare better than most.
  18. Hi, Got a couple of leads for talking to my 06 Fabia VRS (BLT) now, one off ebay for about £7 and one off GenDan for £20. Both seem to behave in the same way - After following a suggestion on here to turn the latency down in the advanced options of the com port it is on both leads work quite well. However. While they will communicate with: 03 - ABS Brakes 08 - Auto HVAC 09 - Cent Elec [1 fault; 01598 Drive battery voltage 07-10 signal too low - intermittent] 17 - Instruments [1 fault; 01314 Engine control module - 49-10 No comms - Intermittent] 19 - CAN Gateway 25 - Immobiliser [No faults found or DTCs not supported by controller or a comms error occured] 46 - Central Conv the one I want to communicate with: 01 - Engine Always gives an error "Too Many Communications Errors to Continue" I've fiddled with com port latency - stuck the baud rate on 9600,4800,1200 and 300 still with no joy, it just will not communicate. Up in the top left corner, where for modules that communicate it usually says protocol: KWP1281, on 01-Engine it just says G71M=-1. Whatever that means. I've also disconnected the battery for 20 minutes then reconnected it and tried again, still no joy. Outstanding fault codes are left in there for some time and have not been cleared. Suspect centelec fault may be from where I have cranked an old battery to the point where it has little juice left. battery since replaced. Strangely, the OBD-II Bluetooth reader I have picks up data (which must be from the engine control module too?) absolutely fine. Any ideas? Reason behind me wanting to talk to the engine is I have an intermittent starting problem detailed in another post. http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/311386-2006-fabia-vrs-blt-intermittent-trouble-starting/ Thanks Andy
  19. If its BLT engine (2006/55+) its electronic antishudder valve and you can check its operating by removing the corner pipe at back left of engine before egr, get someone turn key back and forth from position II (without starting engine) and you should see it open and close. My BLT also makes a noise about 2 seconds after engine has fully stopped, a sort of quite quiet hollow deep inhilation, like the release of a vacuum, rather than detonation or run-on. My anti shudder valve is working fine by the looks of things and still makes this noise. I initially wondered if its the opening of the anti shudder valve releasing a vacuum after the engine has ceased that causes it. If its any help I suspect my EGR is thoroughly gakked up judging by the gak caked on onto the ASV flap.
  20. Nice one mate, turned down the latency in the advanced settings of the com port in device manager and performance improved. Still can't talk to the 01-Engine though. Tried higher latency too, that didn't help. I'll see if the GenDan cable has any luck. If not something must be shafted...
  21. I just bought one of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171175298869 And haven't had a lot of luck with it. Was able to communicate with the ABS module but nowt else. Loads of "communication errors" Not sure whether its laptop, wiring problem or the cable. I've read it can be a bit hit and miss with some of the ebay cables, so I'm hoping I just got a duff cable. It seems some people have no trouble at all with the ebay cables. Have now put in an order for one of these: http://www.gendan.co.uk/product_VAGUSB.html To see if I have a bit more luck with it, as I read that Gendan are one of the UK Distributors for ross-tech stuff. http://www.ross-tech.com/distributors.html Good luck.
  22. Welcome to another new Kent member
  23. and to think I thought I was mental for thinking door colours dont match... If you want to mix fuel with two stroke oil, get a 50cc bike mate... dont go putting it in a car. just my two penneth worth. Don't do it!!! Re-read your question. You are not thinking of doing it, just asking if its a good idea. In my opinion, its a terrible idea.
  24. Yeah a difference in colours on different materials wouldn't surprise me too much but the front and rear doors are presumably both made of the same thing... It seems noticeable to me on several of the photos here (not all of them). https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=silver+fabia+vrs&source=lnms&tbm=isch someone please tell me I am not going mad!
