  1. Mine were sealed by the dealer under warranty years ago. Any one else got any thoughts on the mechanism? There seems to be a few on eBay but I'm unsure if the are correct?
  2. The front passenger door lock on my 2005 vRS needs changing. I've read various guides about doing it, and fairly confident I can manage it. A couple of questions, though: Do I need to reseal the carrier when I refit? Is the door lock mechanism dealer only? Cheers.
  3. I haven't posted in a while, but could do with some input on this. Yellow oil light came on as I got to work this morning. Am I right in thinking this is for oil level? And not oil pressure? Would I be OK to drive it the 10 miles home if the dipstick level is fine? Any help appreciated. Edit: This is for my 2003 Octavia vRS
  4. I bent one of the guide pins on my rear brakes trying the get it out of the carrier (it was siezed solid). Is there anywhere I can get a set of the pins? I'm loathed to buy an entire carrier just for one pin. I've tried members on here but understandably they dont want to split the brakes when they can sell them better complete. Scrapyards round here a non-existant these days!
  5. Hi Billy, Did you get my PM about the guide pins? Been having some problems so not sure if it got to you. Simon
  6. Had the brakes apart earlier, one of the guide pins was siezed solid, so I hope that was the problem. Unfortunately I can't put it back together to test as I mullered the pin getting out so need a new one now!
  7. Should I mention I'd doused it in WD40 for a couple of days before hand...
  8. When I changed my the rear rear wiper motor on mine I took the nut off, flipped the wiper arm up, put a couple of fingers under one side and a couple under the other and alternated the pressure until the arm eventually wiggled off.
  9. Hi Guys, I had my rear discs and pads changed just before Christmas and all was fine until last week. Now when I brake heavily, or the handbrake is applied for a few hours, one the of the brakes is making a grinding noise for a few minutes afterwards when I turn left. The disc is getting a bit hotter than the other one, but not significantly. I'm thinking of cleaning up the guide pins, what grease should I use on them that I can get locally? Also, I haven't got access to a windback tool until next week, if I'm not changing the pads can I remove and refit the caliper without on? Hopefully the caliper itself isn't knackered.
  10. Having recently driven the Mrs. vRS I have noticed a squeak accompanied by a knock when changing up gears and also when coming on and off the throttle when cruising at a constant speed. It also feels like a split second delay when pressing the accelorator pedal and it reacting at the wheels. My initial thoughts are a worn bush, possibly in the dogbone mount. Does anybody else have any theories on this or am I, surprisingly, digging in the right area?
  11. Did mine yesterday. My TB was solid black inside, so was about due a clean! 20 minutes later and I have much smoother throttle response especially from cold!
  12. I'm considering that, but they'll have to be quite small and insulated.
  13. After successfully installing my new head unit in my Mk1 Octy I want to get the rear speakers either side of the parcel shelf working again. The previous owner fitted 6x9's in the rear shelf and lazily snipped the wires off going into the OEM connectors. So now I have the wires and the connectors but no way of re-attaching them. Can I get the snipped wires out of the connectors or will I have to get some new ones? (From the dealer I assume?) How easy is it to wire up new ones?
  14. I don't really want to mess around with the cars wiring, would rather do it to an adapter for the comfort of my sofa.
  15. I've just come across a Blaupunkt headunit that my missus bought a while ago and we never got round to installing. Decided as we are going away on the weekend I'd fit it in my Mk1 Octy vRS. I read up about the swapping over the yellow/red wires and making sure the K-line is disconnected, but the problem is the stereo doesn't come with any sort of ISO harness where I can make the changes. I don't really want to butcher the cars wiring, so is it possible to buy an ISO to ISO loome from Halfords that I can swap the wires over on? Or do they sell one where the changes are already made? Thanks in advance.
