  1. I left my house last night in my vRS (2007 with 50k miles) and the car drove fine for about a mile at 30 mph. When the speed limit changed to 60 mph i pressed down the accelerator pedal and all of a sudden there was a loud noise and no power. Since it was dark and i was so close to home i drove it back really slowly. The car is really slow and makes a loud noise when you take it over 30 mph. I've done some reading on the forums and it sounds like a pipe might have come off the intercooler. This morning i took a look under the hood and couldnt see any oil leaks or anything that had come off. Where abouts does this pipe usually pop off? Is there a way to temporarily fix this myself so i can take it to the dealer? My dealer is about 20 miles away and i wanted to know if it would be ok to drive the car there slowly to get it checked out and fixed without causing further damage? Thanks
  2. The reason for replacing them is that the brakes on the car feel very spongy and sometimes you have to push the brake pedal right down to stop. Recently i have started to get a grinding noise too when applying the brakes. Now i dont know whether i need new discs or just pads, and if its just the front ones only or both the front and back. I dont trust the dealers as i'm pretty sure they will tell me to change them all and charge me £500 for the pleasure. Before having my 40k service done i called around for some quotes for the service and also the brakes. One dealer said that i had done very well to get 40k out of them and i should look at getting them all replaced along with a brake fluid change as they dont tend to last that long. Another dealer where i actually got my car serviced from said that i had plenty of life left in the discs and pads and they dont need replacing. They said i had approx another 5-6k miles left, so i think that now might be the time to change them.
  3. My vRS has done over 46k miles now and still has the same discs and pads fitted from new. I'm thinking of fitting some new Pagid discs and pads to the front and rear and just wanted to know if i had the correct part numbers before ordering from Euro Car Parts. Front Discs 288mm - Part Number: 104440798 Rear Discs 232mm - Part Number: 104440748 Front Pads - Part Number: 101441038 Rear Pads - Part Number: 101441388 I think the part numbers for the discs are right, but there are so many different part numbers listed for the front pads. Does anyone know the right number? Cheers Rich
  4. I have just purchased a new Michelin tyre inflator to replace my old digital one which i have had for 6 years now. The problem i am having is that every time i use it on my vRS the cigarette lighter fuse keeps blowing. When i plug the inflator in the lights come on and it displays the tyre pressure, however as soon as i press the on switch to inflate the tyre the fuse immediately blows. This has happened about 4 times now and i keep having to replace the blue 15A fuse. I always have the car started, and have tried it with everything else switched off but it still does it. This never happened once with the old tyre inflator which i had. I have been using this Michelin tyre inflator on the other cars with no problems, its just everytime i use it on the Fabia the fuse keeps blowing. Any ideas why this keeps happening? Cheers
  5. Cheers for the replies. I will get someone to get a proper look at them and give me some measurements on how much they've worn. If i can get away with just replacing the pads for another few thousand miles then i will do that and start putting money aside for the 312mm upgrade. Oh for the folk who have upgraded to 312s, do you have to tell your insurance compnay that the brakes have been upgraded? Does it affect the price of the policy by much?
  6. Hello all, I know there are lots of threads about the Fabia vRS brakes, but i thought instead of hi-jacking one, i would start my own because i might go on a bit lol. Warning lots of questions coming up My car has done 30k miles and is due its 3rd service. I've just had my car in for a repair a few days a go at the bodyshop, and i was given a new 08 courtesy car which i have been driving about in. I covered about 400 miles (painfully slow ) and as soon as i collected my vRS i noticed that the brakes are abosultely crap/shocking/dangerous compared to what i had got used to. :thumbdwn: Obviously the car i was driving only had like 2k miles on it and was pretty much brand new, where as mines has done 30k miles and the brakes have worn. I've known for a few weeks now that the brakes have been beginning to feel worn/weaker but never realised how weak lol. I know that when i take my car in to the stealer for the service they will check the brakes and will no doubt say i need new discs and pads all round Is it likely that its just my pads that have worn or do the discs wear at the same rate? Could i get away with just replacing the pads only? If so how long would the pads tend to last on worn discs? Or would i need to replace both the discs and pads at the same time? Any guide prices on what the stealers charge these days for having front and rear discs and pads fitted? I was thinking that if i am going to replace the discs and pads all round then i might as well upgrade to 312mm discs, because lots of folk on here have said they are a huge improvement. How much do they cost? Where is the best place to buy all the parts? Where's the best place to get them fitted from? What parts do i exactly needed to upgrade to 312s? Sorry for all the questions lol Just that i need new brakes and thought id get some adivce before letting the stealer replace them for me. Cheers RiCh
  7. I had my speaker replaced last year and the rattle went away, but guess what its back again. Looks like another trip to the dealer again :(
  8. Do you mean the little yellow bottle thing? I had that too but it didnt really give me much 'snow' foam, it never clinged and dragged the dirt off the car, also the bottle is tiny and you have to refil it a few times to get the car done. I should edit my post so that it reads properly, its one of those HD foam lances which i use it with ph neutral snow foam. Snow foam is good, but i always have to use the 2 bm to clean the car properly as there is usually a film of dirt left on the car. The prewash helps to get the big bits of crap off the car before using the shmitt to clean it. I might try maxi suds next time to see if thats any better.
  9. Nice work, cars looking good Best colour too
  10. Another one for the ALDI Powercraft PW. Had mines for a few months now and its really good. Very high spec with a decent warranty for an amazing price. Use mines all the time with HD snow foam lance (Karcher fitting).
  11. Great work mate that E60 looks stunning I really want to go out and detail my car but its -5 degrees outside :thumbdwn:
  12. Does anyone have the above disc for their sat nav system? Has anyone upgraded from 2007/2008 to this one? Are there alot of changes/differences between the two? Please let me know if you do. Cheers
  13. Cheers for all the replies and info. I stay near Edinburgh, and also travel in to Glasgow everyday. Quite far from most of you i know, but if their is anyone nearby who would be willing to help then please give me a shout. It would be handy just to borrow the removal keys rather than buying only to use them for a few minutes. If not then i might pop down to Halfords or somewhere and get them from there.
  14. Hi all, im looking to change the standard head unit on my Fabia vRS just wondered about the fascia adpater that i will need when i remove the symphony unit. I have had a look on the net and most places sell this kind of one, Is the Autoleads FP2000 and Connects2 CT24SK01 the same fascia adapter? Which is the best one to buy and where from? I am looking for one that will match the rest of the dash and not look odd. I have also read that the one available from the dealer is only a few pounds, I take it that its not really a fascia adapter but just a horizonal plate to fill in the gap? Also will i need an adapter for the aerial cable? Or will the one thats already in the symphony unit fit the new one? I've seen a complete kit on ebay that has the facia adapter, old head unit removal keys, aerial adapter and ISO wiring harness adaptor, is this worth buying or do i not really need it? Cheers RiCh
