  4. Yes thanks XMAN you could have hit the nail on the head !!!! Just been reading about recalls for the ignition coil that apparently can cause low voltage - although my VRs is supposed to have had this done - but you never know. Just booked an Auto electrician to have a look.
  5. But then again all the lights will appear while the car is trying to start up - is that right. ???
  6. The original fault has returned - ECU and ENGINE management lights on. The car did run perfect before with no problems at all - but now it just turns over there is no misfiring at all - it just refuses to fire up. It doesn`t sound like an healthy turn over either it doesnt sound smooth it sounds rough as if there is no fuel being fed into the engine.
  7. Hi, my ECU had a p0601 check sum error. My VRs was running perfect with just the ecu and engine management light on, I was advised that although there were no problems I needed to have it fixed so I sent the ECU to cartech electronics to have the data transferred from my faulty ecu to a donor ecu at a cost of £400. On return it was fitted - the engine ran for 20 mins then started rough idling then stalled within seconds. If it wasn`t for me chatting to someone in the street I would have been banging down the motorway at 70 - daren`t think where I would be now if it had stalled then - puts the sh-ts up me thinking about it. Does anyone have any ideas or experience in what could be wrong at all - I have gone down all avenues and spent hours surfing till i am dizzy but cannot find any answers. I am now in the process of removing the ecu to return it back to Cartech for their input. Really puzzled over this - any ideas at all would be appreciated.
  8. I have Just had the ECU returned after testing - this is the second test - sent it away twice for a second opinion. Apparently the ECU has ---- CHECK SUM ERROR -- P0601 -- CORRUPT SOFTWARE. That is from both companies. I have had a local Auto electrician look at it - he cleared the EPC & Engine warning light - but next morning they returned. He reckons it could be a bad connection from the Loom plug that goes into the ECU socket. He reckons that there is quite a bit of rust etc in the contacts and that could cause the problem.

Had my Octavia VRS 2006 for 12 months now - just decided to change a few bits and bobs to how I would like it. Only done 52,000 miles. Just fitted 19" DRC Gunmetal Alloys. EIBACH LOWERING SPRINGS - BILSTEIN SPORTS SHOCKERS. Have ready to fit MILLTEK SPORTS EXHAUST AND K&N TYPHOON INDUCTION KIT. The only Typhoon kit they had was black so I have had it painted CANDY APPLE RED.

  11. Hi, Just sent my ECU away for repair - P0601 CHECK SUM ERROR. Apparently the main processor in the ECU is apparently FUBAR. But the only tell tale signs that there were any problems was the engine and epc warning lights on the dash. Everybody claims what a disaster this is - BUT how big a disaster can it be I don`t quite understand. My Octavia VRS runs absolutely perfect - I would not have known there was a problem if these two lights were not illuminated. In fact I have just been reading about a guy who has run his car for four years with the same - well would I call it a problem ?? Thought this was an MOT failure ?? to have any warning lights showing. Anyway, how can an apparently so important part of the car as the ECU that controls absolutely everything can be classed as NOT WORKING - when my Skoda is running perfect ??? Perhaps I had better have a little whisper in my VRS`s ear and tell her that by all acounts she can`t function without the ECU. I would really appreciate if so so mebody could spare a couple of minutes to explain - I have driven Skodas for the past 20 years but they are getting beyond me.
  12. I have an OCTAVIA VRS PETROL 2006. She has the bog standard radio and I would like to install something a bit more up to date ie - SAT NAV / RADIO etc. Could anyone advise on the correct unit - Name / part no. There are a few on Ebay - I just want to make sure I get the right one first time. Thanks - your help would be appreciated.
  13. Hi, Just recently had a problem with a P0601 error. I was quoted nearly £200 quid for the pleasure of having the diagnostics to be read and put right at a main dealers. Thanks to replies from CJ UK & Langers2k I was pointed in the right direction and found FIVE TOWNS VAG- a guy who is an independent specialist for VAG cars who covers - HULL / GOOLE / DONCASTER. He read the diagnostics with a VAGCOM and rectified the fault for £25. If anybody does need a diagnostics reading give him a try. Thanks again!
  14. Hi, That is very interesting - Thanks for replying with that - it is much appreciated.
  15. Hi my beloved Skoda VRS 2006 has just contracted the P0601 VIRUS has anybody an antidote. All I did was top up the engine oil and the windscreen washer bottle and when the engine reached running temp - THERE THEY WERE - the two dreaded symbols - took her straight to the SKODA STEALERS A & E. After pacing up and down the doctors came out with not very happy faces - she has the p0601 virus they said - OMG i SCREAMED what happens now I said. We will have to keep her in for observations they said - but it will cost hundreds of dollars a night - are you covered - no I am not was the reply as I choked back the tears - and the techy doctors cringed as they got spells in their finger tips whilst scratching there heads. Well IF THEY HAVE NOT GOT A FLAMING CLUE HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO GET IT FIXED !!!!!!!! Joking apart - I have never known anything like this !! How can a company build something and when it breaks down don`t seem to have a clue how to fix it. I have owned Skodas for the last twenty years - I have just bought this vrs hoping to customise it - Remap - Alloys - Induction kit - Milltek Exhaust and this happens. Does anybody have any answers - SURELY P0601 cannot be as complicated as everyone is making it out to be. Any helpful comments would be very very appreciated. Thanks !!!
  16. Hi, I have the same year and model of Skoda as you had and I also have the same problem. All I did was the fill the windscreen washer bottle up and topped up the engine oil - and then the warning lights came on. Even the Techs at the Skoda garage seem to want to steer clear of this error p0601. What chance have I got. Although the car is running perfect I like things to be right. Just wondering if at all possible you could let me know the outcome with your Skoda. Your help would be very much appreciated.
  17. Hi, I purchased four Eibach lowering springs for my Octavia VRS 2006 Hatchback. They are going to be fitted in the next couple of weeks. This morning as I was pulling way I heard a sickly crack from the front of the car - I immediately took my VRS to a well known garage on the high street and one of the springs on the car has broken. As it happens I was not too bothered because I have the four new Eibach springs to fit. I have been told that the two front shock absorbers are also shot so they need replacing. I have been quoted a price of £450 fitted. = 2 shocks and 2 springs. As I already have the springs I have been looking on E bay etc for shock absorbers and have been pleasantly surprised concerning the price - so much in fact that I might as well get the rear shocks done aswell - I know a mechanic who will fit them for me. Could I ask for advice for the best shocks to purchase - Monroe / Bilstien etc to fit along with my lowering springs - there are some excellent prices but am a little hesitant concerning the best ones to buy - You only get what you pay for - or do you ?? Any advice would be appreciated because if I can sort this out myself I can save quite a bit. Thanks.
  18. Has anybody fitted dash instruments in pods - ie TACHO GAUGE - OIL GAUGE etc. to an OCTAVIA VRS. I am pondering fitting them but just cannot make my mind up concerning how they would look.- I am looking at just two or three. I have had Milltek exhaust fitted - remap - 19" alloys - Typhoon induction kit etc etc - but for some reason I have an urge to fit gauges !! I have seen them on a Subaru Impreza with the three gauges in one pod - they had smoked glass and when they were lit up at night with the blue back light they really did look well. Can someone give me a slap and bring me back to my senses - OR will they look the part ?????? I have seen the ones that fit on the pillar - but just cannot take to them.
  19. BLIMEY brad1.8t I bet you are a right laugh at all the barbies. Is your second car electric ?? OK - on the good advice - I will take the VRS in for an interim service - before the full and give it a good blast down the Motorway. once a month. OR just for brad1.8t - I will throw all the dirty plates into it - have it remapped to channel 4 and hope for the best !!
  20. Outstanding determination and dedication. Looks fabulous. Are the side windows Tints or blinds - I ordered the blinds for my 2006 VRS and they will not fit. Have posted a question concerning the running of the VRS - to cut a long story short - i do short journeys - apparently this is no good at all for the VRS. I have fitted new Alloys - DRC 19" - BACK CAT EXHAUST - K&N TYPHOON INDUCTION KIT - MILLTEK CAT BACK EXHAUST - & REMAP. What are your views on short runs etc - Mick Barnsley s,yorks.
  21. Hi, I have driven Skodas for the last 20 years. I am at the moment going through a mid life crisis and have bought myself an Octavia VRS 2ltr petrol 200 bhp. I have fitted new 19" DRC alloy wheels - K&N TYPHOON INDUCTION KIT ,BACK CAT MILLTEK SPORTS EXHAUST - PERFORMANCE REMAP adding 50 + bhp - plus lowering springs. I would very much appreciate some advice concerning the running --- ie long runs short runs. At the moment I am not working so all I am doing is short runs 4 or 5 miles - Supermarket etc. I am concerned about blogs that I have been reading stating that it could be detrimental to the engine like the Skoda VRS if it only does short runs. Could anyone in the know give me some sound advice please. Regards. Mick.
  22. Hi - just introducing myself - I have been a Skoda owner for the last 20 years - FAVORIT = OCTAVIA = NOW OCTAVIA VRS.
