  1. Hi, Mine is a 64 plate and i've had it from new and done 57k. thankfully I bought extended warranty Had this a few weeks ago and dealer changed the water pump. search on here and you will find it's the internal valve inside the pump to divert from engine only cooling to speed up warm up on the diesels. The new pump is modified from around MY15 i think you can push the dealer for a contribution as clearly it's a known manufacturing defect Also consider doing the cam belt (if it's nearly due) at the same time as Skoda recommend doing the water pump at the same time as cam belt and this won't add a huge amount to the bill. Steve
  2. DPF regen.. If i'm back and forward to the office all week mine does it a lot Steve
  3. Hi All, My car will need new front pads soon and I was wondering if anyone has fitted aftermarket pads, and their view on them. The car is mainly motorway useand i'm happy with current set up if a bit over servo'd. I'll fit these myself as i know one end of a spanner to the other and save on dealer labour rates plus I take more time to clean everything up and lub as necessary. I've googled this but not much comes back. Mine is a 64 plate MY15 estate with the large discs. Mileage is coming up to 40k thanks for any input Steve
  4. Hi All, I've had my Skoda VRS for 2 years now and although very pleased with it, i'm still feeling remote from the driving experience. It's the same with every other VAG car i've driven and takes away from the driving experience in my opinion. uninvolving would be the best way to describe it. My other car, and one i've owned for 12 + years is a classic Impreza turbo that i'm gradually working through to get back to A1 mechanical condition. 4 Calipers just refurbished and 10 new Stainless pistons, powder coated (or something like that) etc, new discs and pads. Anyway, the reason for the post is that i've also put some grippy tyres on this car and this week had a full geometry set up. The Scoob is well known to get improved grip with some tweaks to toe-in, camber etc. The transformation in steering feel, turn-in and grip after this was amazing ! I would say that without doubt, this is the best £70 i've spend on any car i've owned. If only I could put the steering feel from this car into the Skoda. So, my question is, could the same be applied to the VRS ? Do any members on here know of some good geometry tweaks that could improve the steering feel on the Skoda ? Cheers Steve
  5. I've had 2 64gb cards in mine since October 2014 and filled them with FLAC and had no problems. Personally, i wouldn't touch MP3's but that's your choice... Steve.
  6. I changed all mine over a year ago without issue and only cheap ones from e-bay. Steve
  7. I used car wow to buy my vrs with about £5k extras and the 2 local dealers were not within £3k of the quote I had and sticking to their guns as there was a 6 month waiting list. The Skoda dealer in Mansfield were superb and must have been looking for numbers to get some added kick backs I guess. Steve
  8. To be honest that would sum up the car for me....good at all things but no real connection to it...
  9. Most of my journeys seem to Bristol to Heathrow these days and 6 times in January! A and B roads are for the Old Scoob on the drive... No worries about grip or traction with that.. Steve
  10. I'm in need of a full set as switched mine around so i replace them all at the same time. Been quoted £85 a corner for the S001's on standard 18" wheels. Done 23k in less than 18 months so want a blend of life and grip... Should get to 24k I think maybe the diesel is harder on tyres due to the higher torque lower down ?? It certainly spins the wheels very easily.. Steve.
  11. I agree, a bit brighter cornering light would be useful. Steve
  12. Maybe your tyres are now a bit worn out.. ;-)
  13. Aren't fog lights illegal to use unless it's foggy. It makes me very angry when I see it and normally give someone a dose of high beam.. And the numpties who insist to use the rears in rain ! rant over.. Steve
  14. A broken spring is fairly common but I guess you would hear it a bit more... Steve
  15. I've driven lots of VAG cars and none of them have good steering. I'm coming from the perspective of feel/feedback of what the tyres are doing on road and any messages I would expect about grip. I suspect as most on here are very brand loyal, they haven't experienced other cars with better steering. Other than that, my Skoda is excellent and I really like it. had it since Oct' 2014, done 20k with no issues. One service and they changed the turbo pressure sensor at that time. Steve
  16. Zero steering feel or feedback. Such a shame for an otherwise accomplished motor. Bonnet pull as has been mentioned before. Harsh ride on certain roads. other cars in the house are Mondeo ST(07) and (00) Scoob and they really show the Skoda how to do ride/handling i'm afraid. Grip..mo idea what the clever diff is about as it seems im spinning up all over the place.. Love the engine and throttle response compared to 320d I had before..miles better.
  17. Hi, My car is a Vrs with Columbus and MY15. when I go to set up and update POI, it doesn't see the Db3 file and seems to be looking for Vcards ? Any ideas ? Thanks Steve.
  18. From my knowledge it's about what the manufaturer has decided to allow for ignition advance following knock detection. I have a classic Scoob and that is night and day different between 95 and 98/99 after some learning by the ECU after a reset. I remember from a car mag test that VAG are notoriously stingy on the allowance of ingnition advance so would explain the lack of difference seen maybe ? Steve.
  19. When I bought my car i requested variable as i'm going to do about 22k to 25k per year and mostly motorway miles. After about 7k, I was looking to see when the service was due to see the car had been set up for fixed servicing and was due in the next 2k miles Quick call to dealer and the next time i was passing (150 miles away), it really was a 2 minute job while i had a coffee and a chat to the sales guy that dealt with me. The dealer was very accommodating and helpful. I can quote dealer and contact if required. Steve.
  20. Of the last 3 cars I've run for work purposes - current vrs since October, BMW 320d touring and Mondeo 2.2 St estate. I can comfortably confirm the Mondeo (my mrs still runs the car) still has the best blend of ride and handling over all of them. I'm not a badge snob or brand loyal but I've never driven a VAG car ( I travel a lot and take a lot of hire cars)that comes anywhere near the Mondeo for this aspect. Steve.
  21. I've got roughly the same thing as you describe. It happens if you have pushed the accelerator and boost is building up but then something ahead makes you take your foot off the throttle. i find this can give a slight surge which is annoying. i've put it down to a slow reacting boost solenoid/wastegate that is not dumping the now, not required pressure and some is trickling back into the system somehow. Steve
  22. Sorry can't help. it's a shame car manufacturers don't put an air con vent to the boot area ! That would be more useful than putting one in the glove box in my opinion ! Steve.
  23. I've also got the DTUK box and over numerous fills, adjusted the compensator with VCDS. it's now on 110% and this gives a fairly accurate reading if I check manually.
  24. There will be differences with old/new engines. At those revs you are on the steep curve of where the boost will kick in and a 100rpm either way will have a big impact. Give it a few thousand kms and review as the response will improve a lot. Steve
