  1. You'll love it, we're just chopping our VRS Estate in after happy years driving. Have fun.
  2. Well, with the arrival of the second small person, the missus chopped her S2000 in for a MkII Octy Petrol VRS Estate with flappy paddles just shy of 3 years back. It's been a great car - comfy, roomy for the kids, insane boot and somewhat chuckable, with respectable overtaking poke and even able to tow. We've also been lucky in that it's not been a major oil drinker. Sadly, the time has come for a change. Next week, she's swapping out for a TD Freelander 2. Will be slower, but have even more room and will tow easier (and more economically - mpg isn't pretty with the Octy when towing) and as we do live out in the boonies a bit and do pop to various parks and the like pretty often, the 4wd will come in handy here and there (we keep cheapie Ikea bathmats to hand for wet grass/mud traction at the moment. Although we've had no issues, there's a hint of nervousness about long term towing effects on the DSG (it had a tow bar when we bought it) plus brakes and tyres are coming up along with major service and MOT, so perfect time to change from our point of view. Backup car remains my Clio Trophy, pushing 100k (all our milage) not so good for towing (lots of torque, not much weight!) but insane throwability fround back roads and over the bumpy stuff. Would like to thank people for help on various topics in the past few years, hopefully we've been able to put the odd useful insight on here too. Octy ownership would have been a lot more hassle without this place, where else will you get VAG coolant compatibility through the years, oil codes and general interesting chat? Pleasant to know that there's an owners forum that has very few (if any) trolls and malcontents, very nice place to browse and I'll continue to point people both to the brand and this forum. So long, and thanks for all the fish.
  3. This is what I've done with all my cars for years. My Trophy has never needed a top up between oil changes. Better seal for the rings is the theory...
  4. Bit of a necro, we're also having an initial look at caravans and have a 2010 VRS estate. Any issues with this being a DSG that we should be aware of? Cheers
  5. Well worth it - I'd have it if I didn't have them already (plus a 3DS and 3DSXL)
  6. FiL has just got his first rag top, after years of saying he didn't get the point of personal plates, he's acquired XK08 and his initials
  7. Did you flog these in the end? I'm trying to nab various 5.1 that aren't SACD format (our blu ray one box will only play them mono) Allegedly the Division Bell 5.1 was available separately, but I've never seen it. Endless river version with the 5.1 DVD on preorder of course...
  8. I had C2GTU on the C2 GT I briefly owned. Actually made a decent profit when I flogged it on in no small part due to the plate! Bought N500FAN for the missus when she got her Fiat 500 (very early adopter) Got P9MOX on my clio. This will mean nothing unless you've ever played magic the gathering... Seems DVLA are much cannier at spotting the potential desirable ones these days, always paid bottom end for the plates I have nabbed.
  9. Curry House - Mirch Massala and a Pasanda
  10. The complaints about the numbers being near the casualty counts on either side is an indicator of the dodginess. Add to that the fact that the footage I've seen, the veterans of a war of 32 years ago appear to be in their 20's and 30's then mix in the methodical campaign the government have carried out over the last few years and it sounds more orchestrated by the minute.
  11. If you were going to troll the Argies, that'd be the way to do it. Let's just say our eldest has his name on the bomb bay doors of a certain plane...
  12. Do it. Get one with a tow hook for added humiliation of the cars that see the back of yours so very often.
  13. Pleasing crane from a few years back
  14. Excellent stuff, thanks all. Suspect we'll struggle to find any UK Farad users as it looks like they're a mainly Italian firm...
  15. Had a wee search and there are a lot of roof rail/roox rack threads, but no so many about actual boxes. We're looking at putting pram, bike trailer and any other bulky but fairly light stuff in a roof box for camping style hols and are agonising over which one to go for. Need something pretty big, as the trailer is wide and the pram doesn't fold down be be that slim. Need something internally c 1.9m long 0.8m wide 0.4m high. Anyone used any of the following and can offer recommendation or warnings? Kamei Husky XXL Farad F3 680l Thule Karrite Odyssey 580 L Anything else of a big but not too expensive nature is fine of course... Cheers
  16. http://www.roofbox.co.uk/scripts/rbvehsel3.php?type=summ&emulate=bikegen&query=maxxraxx 2 - 5* bikes, different offsets and sides for different sorts of cars/electrics, adaptors for full boingies/ladies bikes with no traditional top tube etc. All in, a no brainer. Easy to use and sturdy to boot. * watch your nose weight...
  17. This - we're kind of out of options having done our first jollies years ago. We're onto hybrid crazy infinities and other mill plus Scoville offerings.
  18. It gets worse when they start dying, especially of non rock and roll style things. Ronnie James Dio Gary Moore Rik Wright Jon Lord Geoff Mann Lou Reed Jeff Hanneman Tommy Vance Clive Burr etc First saw Metallica in London just before Christmas 1984, was also at their first Donington/Ozzfest/Download the following year - 30 years - wow.
  19. Getting back into it after 15 years, aim being to tow the small people round in a Burley and do some bits of trails and tracks (nothing too technical) when we get the odd hour. I went for a 2013 Trek 4700, Mel went for 2013 Felt Krystal 50 - crazy spec for the money, especially compared to what was around when I was doing a couple of hundred miles a week an eternity ago.
  20. Been using it for years, but loses value this weekend, new EU regs come in which restricts numbers that can be used in many cases. http://ec.europa.eu/justice/consumer-marketing/rights-contracts/directive/index_en.htm
