  2. I know there's been a lot of discussion already about this, so forgive me for asking. I currently have an Octavia (which I'm looking to change) and had a test drive last week in a ten month old dealer demonstrator fabia vrs with 6k on the clock, should I buy and take the risk with high oil consumption or simply walk away and get something else? Your thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

  4. Folks my Octavia (1.6fsi) has developed a slow leak in the coolant system: over about two weeks the reservoir drops from max to min. There's no sign of water staining around the engine bay and the oil is not milky or gunked up (and the car gets up to normal operating temp fine and the heater works properly). I'm just about to book it in to have it checked over, but would anyone have ideas as to a possible cause (as these sorts of problems can be a awkward to diagnose and any help would, perhaps, expedite a solution)? Cheers.
  5. Folks I've just had my 1.6fsi Octavia back from a local mechanic for a service, he fitted Skoda parts I got from the local dealer but the fuel filter is incorrect. When I contacted the dealer the parts person said that (after checking with the dealer mechanics) no-one there had ever changed a fuel filter on a 1.6fsi. My question is twofold, does the 1.6fsi not have a regular, changeable fuel filter? But, if it has, does anyone know a part number? To be honest I found the dealer very vague and not that helpful. Any advice would be welcome. Regards.
  6. Okay, thanks for the replies. ChrisRs: I've used the local mechanic for years (just not on a Skoda yet), I assume he can re-set the indicator but was curious to know myself. FriendlyFire: The car is on (and has been from new) fixed service intervals. Again, thanks for the info. Cheers.
  7. Folks perhaps someone can help me as I've carried out some searches on the site but am unable to find an answer? I'm leaving the Octy in for a service with a local mechanic and am wondering about re-setting the serivce indicator, to do this should I just follow the handbook instructions (or is there more to it)? Regards.
  8. FYI, last year I bought a Rearguards bumper protector for my Octavia hatchback and it's spot on. Fits the bumper perfectly and looks like a OEM product. Hope this helps. Cheers.
  9. That's what I thought but the dealer said 80k for belt change (this was just after another person at the dealer said 60k for change). I don't know what the score is, anyone got a concrete answer for this?
  10. Chum I have this fault on the front left suspension when I go over a speed bump. Someone posted a fix for this that came from VW, but when my local dealer checked it out they said it was fine. The creak first appeared around 3k, with car now run up 50k no problems have manifest (apart from the creaking noise). As a sidebar, I've a relation whom works for a firm that runs golfs and passats (which, I understand, have the same, basic suspension unit); he's encountered same problem but no adverse effects after many 100k run up.
  11. thanks tom, i've had a look in the service handbook and the 1.6 fsi is not mentioned (while the 2.0 fsi and PD are), so, maybe, it has a chain drive. would anyone else have info as to whether the 1.6 fsi is belt or chain? regards.
  12. folks sorry if this has been asked before (i've had a search and couldn't find an answer), but does anyone know at what mileage the cambelt on a octy 1.6 fsi should be changed at? thanks in advance..
