  1. Hi folks, Has anyone had this problem and if so did you have to go to stealer to get it fixed. 05 octavia elegance not put a foot wrong since I got it. But recently the engine light came on so took it to local garage who said it was the heat sensor but they changed it and light still on so they think its an underlying issue. as of late the car now runs at high revs especially when cold but does happen when the car has been running for a while. if anyone remembers automatic chokes its similar to running a car with the auto choke on. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas before I go and get screwed over by stealer...
  2. Cheers Manny, will have to check the 2 dunlops on front as its the kumos on the rear that I am replacing. I have never had as many punctures on a tyre as I have on the kumos. cheers... Rob..
  3. I need too get new tyres and my currents tyres are 225/45/17 y rated but the ones I can get cheap are w rated. I have a 05 1.9 pd 105. I don't see why I would need anything above w rated tyres but not sure how this would be legally. any comments welcome. rgds..
  4. Turbos make a whining noise when they are being used, which is very frequent on a deisel. and you would get this on accelaration but not at constant speed.!!!
  5. Yep, same thing happened to me. typical computer equipment.
  6. There must be a separate fuse for headlamp washers as mine were out of order for a long while until I got the garage to look at it. they said it was a fuse.
  7. Just remove the fuse. I don't think they stay on long enough to cause complete darkness but I guess it depends in which roads you drive on.
  8. I think the siren type noise is just the air being compressed when sucked in by the turbo. My car hasn't missed a beat since I got it 40k on it still runs like new with no rattles or sqeaks. good quality vehicle. only problem I have is the reversing aid has a mind of its own, hopefully it will get fixed at next service.
  9. Take of the sunglasses or get contacts... :-)
  10. My 1.9tdi has whistled/siren since I got it and it has now covered 40k miles without complaint. and guess what it still whistles. its a turbo thing even the trucks I drive do it. don't worry about it. enjoy it.
  11. Robbo, I had an irritating noise coming from the passenger side once (well I thougt it came from the passengers side) it was actually my sunglasses in the the holder ubove your head. I would get the gap looked at by skoda, you shouldnt have any gaps.
  12. Never driven or used the 2.0tdi but I have a 1.9 tdi 105pd elegance and regularly get 600miles per full tank I do 95miles each day. I set my cruise at 60 and and very rarely do I change speed my mpg indicator normally sits around 60 to 70mpg but I don't drive hard and have the air con on all the time. Oh and my route is just about all motorway. A very good vehicle is the 1.9, I would like to advise on the 2.0 but can't, going by the reviews its a very good engine. Hope this helps...
  13. Where are the air con filters located within the engine bay. this will be handy to know when the time comes to buy new ones. Oh, and thanks again for the info. great stuff....
  14. I used to have my aircon on all the time but I tried running my 95 mile round trip with it off for 1 week to see if it reduced fuel. it does reduce the amount of fuel used but now I get a smell from the air con "now and again" when I change from say 21 to 18 degrees. Anyone had this happen and more importantly what is it.!!!
  15. Has anyone had problems with the reversing aid failing to work. My reversing aid was temprimental and would fail to work every now anf then but recently it has failed to work at all. when I put the car in reverse gear I get no display on the consol screen nor to I get any sound warnings. I have noticed when I take it out of reverse the car flashes up on the screen for a second.
  16. Does anyone know if and where the fuse or relay is located for the front light washers. Mine have never worked and I can't be bothered with the hassle of sticking it into stealers for a day. yes a day, thats what they guy told me. fair enough it would be fixed under warranty but they are about 20 miles away and won't supply a courtesy car cos I didn't buy the car from them.....
  17. The mk1 is a very reliable car, what taxi owner wouldnt do for a cheap reliable new car......
  18. Have you changed your tyres recently, I have found that certain tyres can be very intrusive.
  19. Mine usually plays the CD if thats what was on when ignition was swithed off, however it has a mind of its own sometimes and will do what it likes. in fact sometimes it wont engage the reverse sensors. most times it does, the cars computer is the only thing that worries me about the skoda, like most computers it has a bit of a personality of its own.
  20. I do about 2000 miles per month. I had a corsa and it killed my back. Went for the 1.9 pd octavia 2 elegance with 17" alloys and its been an absolute dream. driving like a mad mad man you will not get the 45+ mpg but at a steady 65-70 you will. I doubt you would see that on any petrol car. P.S. this was my first deisel and I would not return to a petrol unless I was doing small miles.
  21. Yes the scottish weather is a bit wet.... but inside the car.!!!!!...
  22. I think the red or yellow ones looks the most sportiest. they seam to have that loud "look at me" factor, that the others lack. no offence to the others.....
  23. I use armourall matt black, can be a bit streaky if you use too much. regarding the water spots I have them too. Not sure what they are but can't get rid of them...
  24. Did Top Gear not get a bong the other night. ;-))
  25. My first variable service at 18200 miles was 208. This included a dodgy wheel lock nut. And the price of oil on the invoice was 45 quid. ........for oil... :-((
