  1. What did you do differently? I seem to be having trouble getting it to recognize the update.
  2. Instant consumption most of the time. Assistive systems display when using the ACC, navigation display when in an unfamiliar area and sometimes the audio display when I'm using the Columbus to display other information.
  3. Mine does the same with my iPhone. It usually helps if you force the multimedia unit to reboot. (Hold the power button until it reboots.) Helps about 75% of the time.
  4. It's really a matter of how the automatic wiping function is selected. On my previous car (Volvo) you had to press a button to activate automatic wiping and it would get disabled every time you switched off the ignition.
  5. Then you just aren't pressing the go pedal deep enough. It's not fun until you're going sideways. But in all seriousness, the auxiliary heater makes a world of difference. Haven't had to do a cold start once because of it, I just carry the remote in my pocket.
  6. The Octy is actually the first car I've kept it enabled. On all my previous cars it's been an annoying honk, but on the Octavia it's rather pleasant. And I can easily hear if I've locked or unlocked the car without looking at the lights.
  7. And for a change the manual is actually conservative in that estimate. With launch control and switching the gearbox to manual mode I've managed to get close to 7s. (In sport the DSG tries to rev the engine too high missing the torque band.)
  8. You're saying the Octavias rear seat isn't comfortable for adults? I personally think it's one of the roomiest and most comfortable rear seats I've ever sat in...not counting the S-class Mercedes etc.
  9. As mentioned above the heaters, once selected are fully automatic, their setting depends on many factors including outside temperature, speed and if the car is sensing rain. I'll have to disagree on that. Actually the way the mirrors work on the Octy are one of my favorite features on the car. Now whenever I drive in the rain or snow I can just turn the switch on and the mirrors automatically heat up when needed and keep clear. On my previous car I had to keep hitting the rear defroster button every 15 mins, even when I only needed to heat the mirrors and not the rear window that was warm enough because of the heat inside the car. This approach saves energy and my nerves.
  10. Just start the car and check for Wi-Fi networks with your phone. It should show up if you have it. (The network password is your VIN)
  11. No, they moved it on the other side of the wheel, to replace audio source selection. (Which is daft, since I use that daily.)
  12. So they've moved the Assistive systems button there on MY16 models, to replace the useless speech recognition button... But this raises the question, what's in the place where the button used to be in MY15 cars with ACC, at the end of the indicator stalk?? EDIT: Looked at the manual. Apparently the speech recognition button has been moved to replace the useful audio source button. So I guess they've just moved one button and removed another for no good reason...
  13. On an iPhone/iPad mobile data works just fine while connected to the car Wi-Fi.
  14. Nope, Columbus stores all navigation data on an internal HD.
  15. I ticked a good 75% of the boxes on the option list and haven't regretted any of my choices. The Columbus, ACC, rear view camera and Automatic Parking Assist 2.0 have been especially nice to have and get used daily. And on the boot side (on an estate) the VBF and dividing net have been great for transporting all sorts of items.
  16. Since the 150 unit is EU5 and 184 EU6 (on MY15 at least) there's some difference in the DPF as well. My understanding is that it's closer to the engine in the more powerful variant.
  17. The forums search function seems to be a little so-so when looking for older posts. But the screenshots on the Apple site should show you the same thing.
  18. The 184 ps TDI is EU6 on Octavias as well.
  19. MY2015 Elegance and MIB Columbus. Skoda Media Command works like a charm, though I don't have any use for it. Skoda manuals seem to be pretty clueless about many functions.
  20. I remember reading that somewhere will have to check the manual Sorry, not true. Read the SmartGate thread where I posted screenshots. (I have SmartGate and it does most certainly allow you to control the Columbus with a phone or a tablet.) Which brings us back to the question: What exactly is Rear Seat Functionality, since the functionality is already included in SmartGate?
  21. RSE? Oh you mean Rear Seat Entertainment. The marketing text says, it's what makes "controlling the Columbus via a smartphone" possible. But that's already possible with SmartGate. What new does RSE offer? It seems the people writing the marketing text aren't familiar with the functionality.
  22. You could just take it to a car detailer who offers an aircon disinfection/deodorizing service. They don't usually cost much and should get rid of the smell properly.
  23. That's actually already possible on MY15 cars with SmartGate.
  24. I knew that but didn't realize the spec names were different even though the models are the same. And more interestingly different the same way they are for Skoda and possibly other makes as well.
