  1. Neily ... maybe the silver ones are OK then? That would be good - I want(ed) a silver one, with 'silver pack' for ultimate stealth.
  2. So as a potential customer, can I ask those of you who experience the boom how much it affects your enjoyment of the car? Say on a scale of 1-10? Does it give you a headache or do you find you can drive around it? Would you buy the car again even with the boom or think twice?
  3. So, back on topic: After my test drive and the uncomfortable boom I experienced, which was bad enough to stop me buying the car, a search on this forum reveals it's a very common fault. It's quite surprising that Škoda, with the engineering resources of VAG group behind it, could be unaware of a fault like this or let a car go to market without fixing it. And very disappointing. I'm looking at second-hand Audis now and Škoda has lost a customer. Probably one of many given how defeated the salesman looked as soon as I asked him about the boom after our test drive.
  4. If you have the spare wheel fitted, the following test would be very useful: -Tighten the spare wheel clamp. Does the boom decrease or even disappear? Please report back to the thread if anyone does this with positive or negative results!
  5. djkarlos - maybe you could try what Leonblue suggests above - put more tension in your spare wheel mounting and see if it makes any difference? … I'm desperately hoping it does, I really want to want one of these cars! Let us know?
  6. I see what you mean. I was thinking that perhaps the spare wheel mounting puts that piece of metal under either tension or compression, thereby altering its acoustic properties enough to stop boom — supporting your bag of sand theory to damp that piece of metal. I only say this because several folk with spare wheels have said they don't have the boom (although it could be just coincidence because one or two with the wheel do have booming).
  7. ...maybe the spare wheel is a more useful alternative to a couple of bags of sand?!
  8. A few folk with spare wheel option fitted have said they don't get the boom. Has this been bottomed out - can we say the spare wheel fixes it somehow? (And if so, how/why?) This annoying issue is stopping me placing my order :(
  9. Telboy, the ‘boom' I had isn't a noise you can record and play back as such. It's more a pressure on the eardrums, like you sometimes get when driving with a back window or sunroof open. Something sonic, a weird harmonic that's set up and amplified through the cabin somehow.
  10. OK thanks Tony. Chap on the other thread says he has the boom in his estate ... it's a weird one. More bothered by that (and all the rattles the demo seemed to have) than the ride, to be honest (which is, like you say, firm but fair).
  11. Can anyone confirm if this boom happens in both estate and hatch, or just the hatch. Took out a hatch today on a test drive, the boom was bad enough to put me off the car. But I'm after an estate, so I'm hoping the acoustics in that are sufficiently different to stop the boom occurring...?
  12. I took out a petrol vRS hatch today - and have a few questions which I hoped some of you with ownership experience could answer. • First is to do with a weird resonance/boom in the cabin at slow speeds. This was quite uncomfortable and made my ears hurt and my head ache. I've found one thread on here about it, which seems to suggest there's no known cause or cure. Anyone know yet if Skoda or anyone worked out what it is or if it can be avoided? • Anyone know if this boom happens only in the hatch, or the estate as well? (It's the estate that I'd be after.) • Wheels - our demo unfortunately had the 19-inch wheels and I found the ride slightly too crashy. I'm hoping the standard rims will give a slightly better ride, but wondered if anyone here has experienced both and is able to comment on the actual difference between rims? Thanks for any insight / info / advice!
