  1. I dealt with a small time dealer..... but either way I looked into small claims court and to get about £1500 quid back would have cost me £80 to start the ball rolling, more if I wanted things like an enforced summons etc Within a month of ownership my diesel pump was leaking so much diesel it had to be replaced, then the turbo died etc this small trader was adamant he didnt have to pay..... I kept it up.. letters etc it would have been the same if I had brought private.... I wouldnt have flinched.... unless someone hands you a car for peanuts and says sold as seen and you agree I think its fair to argue the point. I wasnt greedy I didnt sting him for the full service I had or the alternator pulley...... but I stood my ground on the Diesel pump and Turbo, he wanted me to fit a recon I fitted brand new after advice was sought. I'd of taken him to court if I had to...... but he paid me off at the 11th hour, I would do the same again with a private seller if it was such a serious issue. A broken spring/worn suspension bush is one thing....... a defective turbo/leaking diesel pump is something else entirely..... No mr trader wasnt happy that my mechanical at my independent had done the work, he wanted his mate to bodge it............ but I stood my ground without having to get silly or nasty. I respect that some people sell cars in good faith, but these folk are a small percentage in my book..... having been fleeced once before on a unroadworthy A6.... I'll fight anyone that wants to rip me off. Regards Mark
  2. Really surprised that there was a 1.2 engine in this heavy car..... I have a 2.0 Ltr Diesel (BKD) engine and I sometimes feel at 140BHP that it could do with a bigger engine. People who have a lot more experience on this subject might be able to help!
  3. Here http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/england/consumer_e/consumer_cars_and_other_vehicles_e/consumer_problems_with_the_car_you_bought_e/the_car_you_bought_is_not_roadworthy.htm You can still take a private seller to court if they refuse..... Regards Mark
  4. Private or Trade you have rights... pursue them politely at first but remain firm with photocopies of evidence. Involve the CAB or trading standards, worst case it will end up in the small claims court, most people settle before then. I came to an agreement with the guy I got our Skoda from.... he paid £1100 back to us out of £1500 in repair costs (work and parts) after he sold us a pup. The law has changed in the favour of those who buy stuff. not those who sell it. Regards Mark
  5. Excellent guide.... very helpful.... like a few of the other guys I think I have knocked it out of alignment.... any help or tips to realign would be helpful. Regards Mark in Coventry
  6. I think it needs further investigation, whilst the car is drinking Diesel I dont smell it or see puddles of it...... not like the time a diesel filter split on my dads truck jesus diesel sprayed out then! I kind of hope its not the pump..... Thank you for the heads up though guys! Regards Mark
  7. Phil, thank you for that information..... It only came to light when the professional independent Garage I use, serviced the car properly...... an example of the previous owners attitude was that the cabin filter was blacker than the interior. They used Vag Com on it..... Meanwhile your information has been most useful again thank you! Regards Mark
  8. Phil, I believe so..... its leaking Diesel! So I was informed... Regards Mark Ps, just rang Skoda they can do the pump cheaper than GSF....
  9. I took the car for a service yesterday, only to be told the Diesel pump is leaking and the best cure for it is a new pump...... Is this a common fault on Octavia's with the engine code BKD ? Regards Mark
  10. @ KB, thank you for this information and for the pm... I have replied.. Regards Mark
  11. Not long had obtained a 2005 Skoda Ambient Octavia Estate 2.0 Diesel..... Meanwhile the steering wheel feels like horrible plastic crap, is there a leather alternative? Many thanks in advance Mark
  12. Lewwy, I always use the Lion Garage in Hinckley there isnt anyone in Coventry I trust having had incidents with the following VRS ATS Independent Vauxhall Centre S and T Auto's...... National Tyres I now use Tyresales in Humber Rd. Regards Mark
  13. Ruffday - Thank you for your reply..... Yeah the only upgrades I am looking at are Stereo, Alloys, Cruise control.... Lewwy, Ah yes VRS........ I remember when I had an old Audi about two cars ago and well Mot and er work...... I think the less said about that the best because it will not sound like the kind of PR, VRS want. maybe they have changed though...... as it was a year before they moved to Wheeler Road/Severn Stars industrial estate.... Regards Mark
  14. I am struggling to find tyres that fit the Zenith on the Kwik fit or National tyres website.... mind you it appears Vega alloys are easier to find tyres for. Should I be worried? Mark
  15. Wardy, thank you for that I will keep an eye out when they become available Zenith wise. thank you for the remind about the CAN gateway, its not something I fancy tackling alone to put it mildly.... Regards Mark
  16. I'm giving it some thought..... just eyeing up tyres as well! Meanwhile the next upgrades hope to be Cruise Control and a Bolero stereo..... Any help or advice is welcome Regards Mark
  17. Monkster, Thank you for your reply its something for me to work on! Meanwhile the Skoda I have is trim level Ambient, but I honestly think the guy who bought this from new didnt tick any of the option boxes. Regards Mark
  18. Hello All, I am new to the site and I acquired my first Skoda this week which replaced a dreadful Audi. Its a 2005 Reg Octavia Estate in Silver, but it has the steel wheels..... which feel crap and look thin. I was wondering what are the factory standard alloy options and what would the tyre sizes be? Many thanks in advance Mark in Coventry
  19. Ste, The only reason I wouldnt go to Columbus would be the price.... but if I were going to consider it I suspect I would want it to work with a mobile phone, I believe this would then mean having a mic installed in the A pillar and a Canbus upgrade. It heads to a realm of areas I am not so confident in. Hazzydayz.... I think I have read good things about them, I know my local independent Audi/Vw/Skoda Garage does such work also (The Lion Garage in Hinckley). Thank you for letting me know. Regards Mark
  20. Samuir, Thank you kindly for the introduction... Some mods might have to wait until October but for the mean while I am having the car serviced on Thursday next week, having just read a thread about how difficult it is to fit new bulbs to the head lights I might get these guys to do it as part of the service. I need to know if the alloy wheel option will make for a smoother ride than the steel wheel option.... I know how good cruise control can be, a former friend fitted it to my 1995 Audi A6. As for Stereo, I could just get a Stream MP3 and a Code for it..... or should I put that money towards a Bolero? Regards Mark
  21. Hello, I have just joined having changed cars from a 1999 V reg Audi A6 1.9TDI estate to a 2005 05 reg Skoda Octavia 2.0Tdi estate. I am looking for help and advice! I am a huge Genesis fan (the group) dont let that put you off.... I look forward to making contact with people. Regards Mark
