  1. Yea them S cars drink the juice. Had an old S6 and 20mpg was a best case scenario. Miss the 4WD but a remap and the Furby feels quick. 40mpg easily with spirited driving, 60 achievable. well cheap on insurance too, compared to the audis. oh and that car is very pink however you look at it.
  2. if the egr is anything like the one on the 1.6 tdi then valve fail is a common thing. for what its worth the old man has just had to have his replaced on a 30k mile motor. we had the removed egr ,which can only be bought with cooler attached, and took the thing apart to investigate. there is one internal valve controlled by an electric motor. this one didnt feel too bad movement wise. bit stiff but probably ok. the other internal paddle flap is controlled by a vacuum (looks like a flying saucer). this flap was way too tight, there is no way the vacuum would move it. whether you could spray in a bit of wd or something and work the flap into a usable state I do not know. at the end of the day it was the carbon build up inside. not a nice sooty carbon build up but a thick stodgy oily build up that would eventually seize any moving parts. it was like tree sap mixed with soot then baked on. All in all design fault. Under tested part let loose on the general public. Ask euro car parts how many they have in stock, they sell loads. According to darkside EGR delete cannot be done with DPF still in place.
  3. First time skoda owner. Had other vag cars in the past, passat tdi, audi 80 2.0 16v, 80 1.8 vanilla, a6 1.9 tdi 130, lupo sport 16v, s6 2.2 20v 300hp+. And thats all i can remember. Family history with vag, brother had s2 400hp+ monster, rs2 and now just got rs4. Anyhow now got fabia vrs tdi 2004. First day of ownership. So far well chuffed goes like stink. Previous car was an accord vtec 2.0 first jap car ive had. Went ok, engine was flawless near silent tickover. 155hp petrol so giving full welly was ok but fuel economy and insurance (gp 25?) was silly. Conviction meant insurance necessitated cheaper car hence skoda. Atm skoka seems to go like soas compared to the honda so all good. Also 45 mpg compared to 25. Appreciate what an invaluable resource this forum will be, so hi to everyone and thanks in advance. Who knows might even be able to help few of you in future. Got good gearbox and mechanical connections. Cheers
