  1. Found the problem... Now just need to fix and tape the cables, find a part code for the cable harness and re-thread it! Anyone got a part number?
  2. Anyone know a part number for the tailgate cable harness on a Mk1 Estate? The years have taken their toll on my tailgate loom at the hinge
  3. Hi, I think the wiring to the tailgate on my estate may be degrading - possibly near the hinge. When the boot is shut everything seems to behave, except recently sometimes the rear wiper doesn't work. When I open the boot beyond 15 degs or so the boot lights cut out, and then a strange growling noise happens and various lights come up on the dash - sometimes brake light failure warning though all bulbs are fine. Anyone had anything similar? Assuming I will end up getting a new boot loom - but not sure why the interior boot lights are affected....
  4. Anyone know part number for the broken mount in the photo? Asv 1.9 tdi non PD
  5. Noticed recently that my 2002 L&K has a bit of a squint. It has the older gas discharge dipped lamps with separate full beams. I understand that the left is normally the master and the right the slave? Controlled by front/rear load sensors. Anyway the right moves up and down to settle when ignition is turned on but the left seems to stay still and remain in the lowest position. So the right ends up higher (perhaps too high but I want them to both work before entering learning mode etc etc.) Because the left isnt moving i'm asusming it's just the motor not the communication between them?
  6. Mine perished too - it has an anti-theft barb so just give it a yank!
  7. I had this annoying rattle at low revs in all gears, been annoying me for a few weeks now, most people couldn't hear it but I'm sure you understand, when your car ain't right you hear it like a mother hears their crying child! I also had a wobbly clutch pedal, pressure plate noise when engine off and vibration when idling; at 110k the DMF/clutch needed to be refreshed. I had the DMF/clutch changed and was sad to hear the rattle was STILL THERE (the vibration has gone and the clutch is now sweet however!) Turns out after a bit of fiddling that one of the turbo solenoids was hitting the engine cover, simple fix!
  8. Check if the clutch and flywheel have been changed (feel vibration through the clutch etc). Its a £650-900 job at an indie
  9. Use long nose pliers, much easier. There is sometime a little loop of metal with a right angle spike to pull them out next to your locking wheel nut, but i find it a faff.
  10. I have the exact same noise. The DMF on mine is also on its way out so clutch and DMF changing on Monday. Presuming that noise will disappear with the DMF noise!
  11. 1.9TDi seems pretty rough at low revs, making a 'growl' as you pull in gear. Not vibrating much on idle but the clutch pedal does when 1/2 pressed, pretty sure its the DMF at 110k. Any advice? I'm looking round Peterborough for quotes.
  12. Yeah it was the service receptionists guessing labour times in front of me that was the issue - the labour costs are understandably high, I would much rather we could deal directly with the technicians.
  13. It would be fine to pay a bit more to have a main dealer look at or work on your car, but you really should be able to trust them, sadly this just isn't the case!
  14. So I took my recently acquired 2002 Octy to a main dealer for a service (overpriced for an oil service I know but I want to keep the book looking tidy with all skoda dealer stamps!). They managed to not find the service booklet in the glovebox (!!?!?) so I gave it to them on collection, they then said they'd keep and post it. They filled it in incorrectly, stating that the next service is due on that days date (03/05/2013) and posted it to me. They also did a free visual health check, and informed me that I should probably consider £2500 worth of work... They obviously thought it needed a new cam belt despite not looking at the service booklet, quoted £575, this was done 5k or so ago...I wonder if if said ok what they would have done? The rest of the suggestions were all accurate in terms of needing doing, the technician no doubt has his head screwed on, but the guys in the showroom were busy wildly guessing the labour costs for the items that needed doing as I sat there. Other great value suggestions included replacement of rear bump stops at £235, and replacement of an exhaust clamp at £68.50. I will be doing the work myself thank you Skoda, and if I'm not able then a good honest independent can have my trade. I find this very upsetting, had I been completely mechanically unaware or trusting of this dealer I could well have spent more than I paid for the car for a mixture of vastly overestimated labour times and unnecessary work. I appreciate that main dealer labour time is expensive, but that doesn't give them liberty to take advantage of people. The dealer in question is one with a lot of negative review on here so I was expecting to have something like this...
  15. Hi, Recently changed my trusty Polo for an Octy Estate 1.9TDi L&K Home in Shrewsbury, Shropshire but I go to uni in East Anglia
