Hi my handbrake has been real bad so i thought i would adjust it myself. I usually slacken cable then move the triangular adjuster down to move shoes out then adjust cable, it usually works but now the little triangular adjusters are right down and ive adjusted cable to its max but cant get no handbrake the shoes look to be in ok condition is it possible the cables stretched or am i doing something else wrong any help or advice appreciated as always Thanks Rich

hi mine was having same trouble losing power and occasionally cut out when going uphill lots of air in fuel line! was told fuel pump had gone after changing diesel pump no change so i drilled out check valve in fuel tank sender and hey presto shes going fine again mine is on 200000 miles good luck

Hi veggie glad to hear its worked for you im waiting for a couple of dry days to give it a go i think lofty has got a how to on the site im gonna follow his advice it seems to have worked for lots of people and saved them a fortune its a good thing we have this help as i would be off the road just couldnt afford garage prices cheers

Hi thanks thats my next job gonna give the old mr muscle a go and renew vacuum pipes when i first cleaned egr i had a lovely turbo boost but unfortunately it only lasted a couple of days then i could feel the turbo wasnt doing its job hopefully mr muscle will do the trick with regards to turbo just glad to be able to get up hills without stopping been a right pain i was getting close to calling it a day with the car . I think just after cleaning egr was the only time the turbo had workedprperly since i bought it ive never owned a diesel so wasnt sure what to expect with regards to performance after all mines only a 90 bhp.

just spent an hour taking fuel pick up off tank and drilling out the feed pipe as suggested by one or two on this site and it seems its worked car seems like a different one its been cutting out and no power for ages only gone 30 odd miles and it drives great. a big thanks to people who take time to offer help and advice on here ive spent a fortune which i couldnt really afford at the minute replacing injector pump ,maf etc only to find the feed pipe was full of muck grit etc which was causing loads of air in clear feed pipe ,loss of power and engine cutting out so if youre having problems give it a whirl costs nothing so give it a go. hi paul and octabus thanks for reply the maf was a bosch recon one so i trust it was ok will check wiring for breaks etc one thing i noticed yesterday was when car cuts out i checked and the clear pipe just before pump didnt have any fuel, cranked for a while then it starts but big air bubbles would maf contribute to this thanks again car seems to be running ok now for a few miles and air is gone seems intermittent air bubbles appear.Cheers for help

Hi a while back i tried cleaning the Egr on my 2002 octavia tdi ALH it was almost totally blocked. I stupidly tried cleaning it with it still on the car. Ever since i have been having terrible trouble losing power stalling difficulty starting. the car will drive fine for days then the trouble starts again usually when engine is under load going uphill etc I have tried new maf recon fuel pump checked timing etc to no avail still same problems. Thinking about it i think i may have sent some muck down the manifold would this cause the problems im having and is there any way to resolve without taking engine to bits . I know the error of my ways now shouldve read up on it first . the car was scanned and came back with 17552 maf open or shorted to ground intermittent 17964 charge pressure control neg deviation. I appreciate any advice thanks Rich

Hi i cleaned my egr on my octavia 2002 tdi ALH and ever since ive had nothing but trouble i stupidly tried getting the muck and crud out without removing the manifold ive changed numerous sensors and still problem persists .My question is when cleaning the egr it was almost totally blocked to the point of just about being able to poke a pen through i think i may have caused some muck to go into manifold would this cause my problems and is there any way of resolving without taking engine to bits? The car runs ok for days then losses power etc when under load going uphill etc. I realise now after reading what i did was foolish and looks like im paying the price i know now why i usually pay to get work done! Hi i pulled a few fuses on mine which led to an airbag light coming on something to do with change in voltage i think! a simple reset and sorted. have you removed any fuses lately.

relay 109 ive heard can have intermittent fault

Hi im far from an expert but there is a solenoid on top of diesel pump try checking that for any fault i think its linked to relay 109 for fuel cut off i think it switches on and off with ignition worth a try only aboout £10

hi i currently own a 1.9 octavia tdi 2002 i think pump is gone so ive been thinking about getting a little fabia estate 1.4 tdi 2004 as a family car just me missus and 2 kids i would be interested if anybody has one and if they have enough power for the job or any issues i should be aware of its done 113000 and has had a cambelt done recently i only do mostly short hops with occasional long runs run appreciate any info thanks rich

Hi ive been having dreaded loss of power on my 2002 1.9 tdi ALH octavia it happens mostly going uphill or when accelerating it had a recon turbo about a year ago .. Ive put new battery, temperature control sensor , cleaned muck out of tank pick up and have cleaned egr out all to no avail took car to get scanned and came back with 17552 Maf sensor open or shorted to ground- intermittent..................17656 start of injection timing regulation -control deviation- intermittent.....................17964 charge pressure control negative devition. I was told diesel pump is naffed and would need either new pump @ £900 or reconditioning he knows more than me but does anyone have any other ideas? also he wasnt sure about getting second hand pump as he wasnt sure it could be paired up with my ecu any help or advice appreciated Thanks Rich

Hi all dreaded mot is due and low and behold abs light has come on garage scanned it and found fault rear left sensor, took hub off cleaned it light went out then back on again after a few miles. the reluctor ring on left side looks good but right rear looks dodgy are these easy to change? and is the code reader reliable ie could it show fault on wrong side . Hi still struggling getting handbrake garage replaced piston shoes aren,t worn but garage cant get no handbrake with cable fully adjusted so i want to get new drums, shoes and new spring kit. I had new shoes fitted a few months back but are there two types? because i have a feeling the wrong ones have been fitted as its got new cables and still no handbrake. Any info on part numbers etc greatly appreciated so i can order on line. Skoda Octavia 1.9 tdi engine code ALH 2002 . Thanks Richy

Hi Mac i left it with garage so assumed they got right one i took drum off yesterday and to top it all cylinder is weeping the adjuster just doesnt seem to push shoes out enough i slackened cable first then tried to adjust it up and still cant get hardly any handbrake with cable fully adjusted so i would guess they may have wrong one as the shoes aew in good nick. I think i,ll have to bite the bullet and start again with all new parts and go from there. Cheers Rich
