  1. I fear I am in a very unhappy boat. Chased them and they said the early indication is that there's something wrong "internally to the engine". I'm waiting on the Master Tech to look at it. I'm maybe jumping the gun slightly but it doesn't sound very good for me at all. The dealer says they will speak to Skoda about it (that was without me asking) so even at this stage it must be either something they've seen before, or something that they know isn't good news. All I can do is cross my fingers. Good luck to you mate, hope you get sorted too.
  2. So it's gone in this morning. They quickly diagnosed the fact that it wasn't "the same problem I brought it in for on Friday". After an awkward silence, I said well I can't drive it can I? I've opened a case with Skoda to see what's what, am expecting a call back from a Customer Service manager. Will be interesting to see what the dealers come back with today, and what they want to charge.
  3. Ok cheers. I'll do the right thing and raise the case with Skoda and take it from there, feels like the right thing to do.
  4. At this stage, what is your opinion on getting an extended warranty? Before I go into the process with Skoda etc, should I consider buying an extended? Sorry for all the questions, I just want to try and make this as painless as possible...
  5. Cheers, I will ask. I assume that the capacity is lower than 4.1 L then?
  6. So it appears the 34f7 sticker is is present in the boot, was done by the previous owner at the registered dealership. My invoice for the service where the plugs were changed shows 4 x 03C905601B, so that looks right. That appears to be 2 less things to debate about. Just looking through some documentation, so the service was done at 37873, and the mileage is now 43560. 4.1L of oil went in as part of the service, and since then 5L has gone in, so that's 9.1L for 5687 miles, so that's roughly 624 miles per litre of oil. So first things first is to figure out this current misfire issue, then open a case with Skoda to talk about oil. @goneoffski - When I bought it it had covered circa 33k, I did a thorough check (calling both Skoda UK and the registering / servicing dealership) and no warranty work or oil consumption tests were done. Actually, 1 piece of warranty work was done which was replacing a corroded alloy wheel. I have exclusively (except for 2 emergencies) run Shell V Power Nitro, and I have the drivers club points to prove it
  7. I can't see that it has had the DSG work done, I'll be bringing that up first thing in the morning when it goes in.
  8. Great advice, thanks. I am going to check with the dealer to see if they are going to charge me for another diagnostic first, at the same time I'll speak to Skoda UK and see what they say about the Oil test etc. First and foremost I need the current gear change / engine light issue fixed, my other half is due to give birth any time now and I can't have this hanging around. Cheers
  9. Thanks. If it's the plugs then something is amiss as they changed them at the service 5k ago. Yep am out of warranty and the woman looked at me as if I was stupid when I asked if I could talk to Skoda about it as it was a known issue.
  10. Evening all. Been a few months since I was on, but am looking for some help (sadly) again. 1. I seem to have fallen victim to oil consumption issues, had the service 5k ago ish and have flown through the 4 litres of oil they changed, and a further 4. I took the car in for another fault (see point 2) and they advised me they need to run some oil weight test that will cost me £140. Is this correct practice? 2. Had an issue with the EPC / Engine light coming on, they diagnosed (for £90) and found a logged error for a misfire due to low fuel. This was clearly not the correct cause and they said that this was a bug and did a software upgrade which should solve the issue. 3. Got the car home and went out again today and the engine light is flashing again. It seems to be an issue whereby the gear changes are not happening properly / quick enough and the car is juddering. Seems coincidental that this fault develops after they've had it (this is the second time, they broke an intake pipe when they changed the spark plugs at the service). The car is out of warranty (by about 12 months), so am not expecting anything for free, but wondered whether it was worth calling Skoda UK about the oil (£140 seems steep for a known issue test). It's due back in on Monday and am a bit worried they will ask for another £90 to diagnose, I may be as well phoning the AA.
  11. The issue with this is you shouldn't really have to. The dealer / manufacturer has a duty to make sure that parts are fit for purpose for the designated times. Fortunately forums like this help educate, but there will be many more people who suffer because they are not informed in this way. That said, you are correct that if you know the plugs are an issue, then yes, tell the dealers to change them.
  12. I can't help you mate, but good luck and hope it works out well.
  13. Yeah, the above is right. Essentially I noticed the exhaust light come on under heavy acceleration, then shortly after got the Oil pressure - Stop warning, which is when the AA came out. They diagnosed and couldn't find the fault, but I took it to the dealers because the warning wasn't oil low, it was oil pressure. They found one recorded misfire, but nothing else. As it was coming up to service time (and all the warnings from posters here about plugs) I instructed them to do the service, and replace the plugs. The fact they first told me that the plugs were ok, then subsequently said one was corroding, is by the by. I got home and the exhaust light came on again, AA came out again and diagnosed an air intake issue, so went back to the dealers. They found the air intake seal cracked and repaired it. I suspect (given the coincidence) that when they replaced the plugs they broke something. Fuel is 100% not an issue in my case. The exhaust light in the first instance was the misfire due to (what I now believe) the plugs. Second time it was air intake. Oil pressure warning I'm not 100% sure, could be all related to the plugs issue.
  14. Yeah, I was going to give them a hard time, but they sorted it out so credit where it's due. And yes, it feels fantastic, back to how it was when I first drove it. I think in hindsight what I should have done is have the major service when I bought it (33k) instead of spending money on the eibachs I put on
  15. Well, that was all a bit premature... I have to give them credit in all fairness, I walked into the building and the service desk handed me my keys and said, "all sorted, have a good Christmas" never even asked for any money. I'm pleased, but also intrigued as to why. Maybe they knew what was coming, or it was clear when they diagnosed what had happened. She now drives and sounds like I remember, so am happy and looking forward to the boxing day drive to the in-laws. Worth saying again thanks to everyone for help & advice, it really does make a difference. Merry Christmas to all
  16. Bit of quick advice if there's anyone about... Dealer confirms a split intake seal, is this consistent with the work they did removing the plugs? If so I'm going to push for them to pay for it. Cheers
  17. Indeed, I have a suspicion they did this after they had told me they were ok earlier in the day. I am now convinced that the cause of the initial problem was the plugs, it all seems to tie up. To be fair the fact I then got the 40k service is fine, as that was coming anyway. The real discussion will take place on Monday when they diagnose the fault that has since appeared, I know they will start by saying they took it for a test drive after they had done the service and everything was ok, but I'm with you newbie, it's too much of a coincidence. I suppose it is possible that it developed this fault in the 20 mins between me leaving the dealership and getting home, but unlikely. I'll see what they say the fault is before I bring up the possibility of them being at fault. And yes goneoffski, I can totally see how this lax attitude can cause big problems, I am grateful in a way I dodged a bullet.
  18. Excellent stuff, thanks a lot. Without tempting fate, doesn't appear to be disastrous, but no doubt it won't be cheap. I'll be onto the dealer for goodwill though, as it's too much of a coincidence for me that this fault happens immediately after they have serviced it, especially when its not happened before.
  19. Sadly they wouldn't give me the plugs, said they had been thrown away earlier in the day (I was at work so not on here for the advice). What's the most common cause of the P2279 code, I've read it could be the PCV valve? I'm certain I can hear a hissing when the car is ticking over (with the bonnet up), but that said I took it for a good drive last night after the AA had cleared the code and it drove fine? It's going back in on Monday, is it safe to drive the car in the meantime (I only mean in emergencies, like feeding the kids!)
  20. Yep, not the most solid piece of communication. I'll see what they say about the air intake issue, that's new since they had it, I'm sure they've caused it.
  21. AA man visited again, error code found relating to air intake? This is a totally different issue to what happened before, he cleared the error and I took it for a drive, all seemed well until I got back home, switched the ignition off then on again and the engine light was back on. Looks like it's heading back to the dealers. Christmas eh?
  22. Hope so, dealer found a recorded misfire and that was it. They also said that one of the spark plugs had "started to corrode", which I took to mean was shot. They test drove it a few times and got no faults, typical that it happens when you get home. I'm going to phone the AA again.
  23. Ok, so plot thickens. Had it's major service with all the bits and bobs (including plugs). Get home and all is well, other half nipped out to the supermarket and the engine / exhaust light comes on and stays on this time. Looks like the AA are coming out again...
  24. Indeed, having consulted the manual the actual message was / is "Oil Pressure Engine off! Owner's manual! . . ."
