Good to know, thanks. I’m impressed if you were able to change the GMFV by £5k I withdrew from my latest PCP immediately and kept incentives. Having had about 4 of them over the last few years on various cars. They make more sense on small cars with when you do low mileage. The dealers want your car at then end as they are very sellable stock but anything big (and diesel) and high mileage it now seems best to run them to the end of their useable life. The best way way to avoid the high interest is a bank loan. I saved almost £2k that way but it’s dependent on your ownership plans

Pretty sure the amount of interest you pay is not affected by the GMFV. You take a loan for £x, interest is calculated based on that. It is then split into monthly payments and balloon payments at the end. The higher the GMFV the lower the monthly payments and vice versa. Put the total amount you pay remains the same. The only way to reduce interest is to increase the deposit which reduces the amount of money you borrow.

My manual 1.6tdi was similar to yours to begin with it was only once it got a fair few miles on it that it really improved, at least 10-20k. Before I sold it with 50k miles it was easy to get 60mpg (fuelly) not trip computer. I would say the trip computer is unreliable rather than inaccurate. I also rarely managed to put much over 45 litres in the tank. It was far happier at 50-60mph. No 6th gear (manual) really spoilt it at 70+ on motorway. Which is why I now have a 2.0tdi Passat.

You can pay it off sooner than 28 days. I terminated my latest PCP the day after I got the car. Paid a few pounds of daily interest and kept all the incentives. Sometimes with settlement additional fees are included. A set amount of interest, option to purchase fees. Terminating within 14 days is cheaper. There are lots of threads on here of people doing the same

Thanks but I am aware of that. I sold the car for more money than the settlement figure and the buyer settles the finance and you keep the additional money to use as a deposit for your next car. Which is the situation people believe they’ll be in come the end of a PCP. The market might dictate otherwise. As I imagine it is at the moment for other diesel owners on PCP. I thought about PCH but the mileage I do makes it expensive and I wanted some extra options which isn’t really cost affective over 2 or 3 years on a lease. I’m thinking much longer term on ownership of the current car.

Indeed you can. I was a bit worried about aligning dates so as not be without a car and didn’t want the potential hassle over any damage that wasn’t considered fair. There was a dent that they could have made a fuss over. I was fortunate to opportunistically find a great buyer on here and got a very good price for it. If I did PCP again (unlikely) I’d certainly consider private sale towards the end of it if I was in negative equity, a chance to get some positive equity!

The GMFV is what the finance company predicts it’ll be worth and what you’d need to pay to own the car at the end of the fiannce term. Any dealer of any manufacturer can offer whatever they like for your car, they’ll know it’s on finance. If it’s more than the GMFV then you’re in positive equity and can put that towards a new car. They can offer you less and therefore you’re in negative equity which will count against your new car deal. In my experience Skoda dealers offer for for their own cars. I sold mine privately as Skoda wouldn’t match GMFV and started another PCP which I have since paid off through a bank loan to save on interest but keep the PCP incentives.

1.2 was only available on lower spec models, not SEL or Elegance. A friend was looking for one and they seemed to be pretty rare. IIRC they travelled quite far to buy one

I never meddled with electrics but on very cold mornings with icey doors. I’d put something on the back seat, close the door a short while later on the drive it would think the doors open when it wasn’t. I’d open and close the door and it would be fine. Happened a couple of times

I thought it started from second half of 2015 so I would assume MY16. Trouble identifying is in the fact it’s the build week over registration week that needs to be known. I would expect most 65 plates onwards are EU6 but there are always exceptions. I think it it coincided with the second generation Amundsen/Bolero units that were Apple car play compatible. I definitely recall thinking I should have waited a year.

In a word no! I was already at my GMFV (£8250) at 6 months to go!!! Managed to get a skoda dealer to buy it at no cost to me but the new car discount wasn't as good. Am on the sell privately or voluntary termination route, next car is private finance. The PCP thing seems to flood the market with similar 2nd hand cars so over supply pushing values down. It was Elegance spec though but I would have thought higher spec was more desirable second hand. Looking at 2nd hand prices it was clear I wasn't going to have any of this "equity" they spoke of when selling the car!

I think you need to take it on a long journey and see if that brings it up to 50+mpg. I'm not in a dsg but it is 1.6. At the weekend driving around town aircon on high (or low temp) I was just above 40 by the end of it all. Drove 30miles to work this morning and I finished at 63mpg. These are all from maxi dot which I've found to be pretty accurate (1 or 2 out when compared with fuelled) It was trying to regen all weekend to but all my journeys were too short, this always brings the mpg down. I'm also always in sport mode.

I have this one Britax Romer KIDFIX II XP SICT Black Series Very pleased with it. The recline function is a bit fiddly. Love the strap that goes round the seat belt to spread the pressure. Our son has good naps in it which is a key feature for us! No experience of the recaro seat stayed with britax as already had an advansafix

Thanks for you comments. I agree on lease length, seems sensible not to go out of warranty. I think my mileage is too high to make 2 year viable. The dent might be a bit of a deal breaker then at the moment as it would take up some of my initial payment money to get it fixed. I'll need to get a few quotes and go from there. has anyone had any experience of BCA inspection and having damage on a car that's beyond wear and tear?

I'm within my mileage so that won't be a problem. I did have a quote to repair it for approx £500 due to blending the paintwork but I'll get a second quote. I've seen the simpsons offers but the initial payment is very high to make the monthly figure look so good. . I'm looking at approx £300 a month on 3+35 or 3+47 deals at 18k miles per year. Is it sensible to lease for 4 years? It's cheaper and I won't have to go through this again for a while!

Would really like some advice from those who've been through similar. ive got 64 plate 1.6tdi estate elegance. 44k, 12 months to go on PCP. Current settlement 10770 GMFV 8200. Can VT it any time though. Went to dealer today, offered me £8900 for it. Which led to a crazy new PCP quote on another Octavia (£450 per month!!!!). So that's not realistic! What are are my best options? 1- Keep the the current car indefinitely run it in to the ground and hope there's some good "scrappage" offered for dirty diesels in few years. 2- give it back in March and walk away. Lease new octavia/superb then as current deals will get cheaper. 3- cut my losses and VT it now (my only worry about this is that there's a tennis ball dent on wheel arch after thanks to someone in car park, how much will that cost me when I give it back?) and lease new 2.0tdi Octavia sel for sub £300 taking advantage on better spec. Might even lease vrs... thanks

Is there an after market option for replacing the Amundsen unit to something with apple car play? I've seen the kenwood MIB1 sat nav one but it doesn't seem to offer apple CarPlay. Thanks

I like the superb as the kids feet are that bit further from the back of the seat in front!! With regards to the boot question. I reckon I go over it regularly (esp every time I go to the tip!). Sometimes I go over and I probably could have avoided it by packing the boot more carefully but it's so much easier with kids to just lob the pushchair bike etc in and not have to worry about whether it will closes or not. I only have to worry about whether to pull back the retractable parcel shelf. My second child has only recently arrived and we are back using the buggy/pram combo which always seems to poke up too high. The children can be stressful enough I just want to chuck everything in the boot and get home/to the park/etc.

I've got 2 kids and couldn't manage without the estate boot. I think it looks better too. 80k too high but there must loads of lower milage estates out there. Mines on 37k and hasn't missed a beat, original tyres still on too. Not a vrs mind! I'll most likely replace mine with another estate or lease a superb estate... Even if it's out of warranty budget an extra £1000 for extended warranty (from 3rd party if necessary) and that will open up more options.

I'm on 33,000 miles and my Michelin primacy hp, I think, are now down to 3mm on front so need changing. Might try cross climate next. Or put rears on front and get another pair of HPs. I had similar problem but other way round, aiming for reverse but getting first to my surprise. Sometimes I'd even convinced the Amundsen screen it was in reverse as the parking display came up but it was actually in first. The best thing about the built in sat nav is the turn by turn instructions on the maxi dot display. For me google maps is a better sat nav. I also found the Amundsen unit seems to work better when I've used it in Europe. It was able to navigate me straight to my sisters front door in Amsterdam. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
