  1. Hi, I've got a Superb iV with and it had the same problem. It's a 23 plate. SE tech. Anyway, I had it booked in to be repaired for this under warranty, then last night the car told me there was a system update available, so I selected to download it (which took a couple of hours) then told it to install (which took 20 -30 mins) and behold the terrible crackly outgoing phone sound is fixed!!! Another bonus I noticed today is that it will now do Android Auto through bluetooth without having to have the phone plugged it!! Result! Cancelled my repair booking as it's now great! The screenshot attached is how it is now, since the update.
  2. The rear screen demister is timed and automatically switches off, but the wing mirror heaters are totally manually controlled by the switch.
  3. The DRL's and sidelights don't make any difference, it only washes the headlights when the headlights are actually on. You can squirt to your hearts content if they're not on.
  4. The Octavia II used to do the headlights every 5 squirts, but the III is every 10 which is much better. You can always temporarily avoid it (if it's safe to do so) by switching to your sidelights, then squirt, then switch back to headlights.
  5. The only time mine was slow to start was on a very cold day when I did the usual turn and release the key upon which the engine starts itself once it's ready (i.e. the glowplugs have finished). Since then if it's been very cold or the first start of the day, i've waited for the glow plug light to go out, then waited another couple of seconds before turning and releasing the key. Seems to start perfectly then. So maybe the engine isn't as ready as it thinks it is when left to it's own devices.
  6. Yeah it's only under a light load, when you go full on it doesn't happen. It would be very interesting to hear what they say in case they've got a different take on it.
  7. That's interesting!! Mine's in for it's first service in a few weeks, so I'll mention that to them! Good tip!
  8. yeah man that's it! I'd love to know if it's a fault or just the engine/emissions system looking after itself. If I knew it is 'expected behaviour' I wouldn't mind. It's not knowing that bugs me.... :-)
  9. I get this on my 2014 Octavia VRS tdi - If I'm accelerating it never shows, nor if I'm keeping a steady speed. It's when I'm letting my foot of the accelerator slowly the engine will suddenly act like the fuel has been cut, only lasts half a second or so then the power is back. I've compared it to suddenly lifting my foot totally off but this is different, it's more severe. Doesn't seem to be any pattern to it and I can't replicate it at will, which is annoying! It just does it now and again when it feels like it. I'd say if I'm driving at town speeds for 30 mins, it might happen twice in that time. Does that sound about the same as your experience?
  10. I thought I'd cracked it the other day, by turning the key from 'everything off' position to 'ignition on' position but turning it a bit more slowly than before. It doesn't work every time though...
  11. Man, that doesn't sound right at all... I haven't experienced that any time I've started the car. I sent the query to Skoda and a really nice chap rang me yesterday. He said it was a random thing, that when you turn on the ignition sometimes the system will self test the most important things, and sometimes it will test everything. This sounds a bit mad to me, surely each time you drive you want to be sure the entire car's systems are spot on. Anyway, I think I've found something. Last couple of days, I've noticed that when I get in the car, if I wait for the dash display (showing the time) to go off and then turn the ignition on, then it seems to do the needle sweeps and the full VRS logo on the stereo screen. I only noticed the first time because I was sorting a few things out in the car before starting up so the time display had gone off, so I tried again the next time and it seemed to be the same. So I guess it is related to the comments above from josedebardi and gabbo. Thanks guys!
  12. On my VRS I knew you could press the button to turn off the stability control, but what I just found out was that if you hold it down it will first go to ESC deactivated, then it will go to ESC sport mode. Previously I had to go in the Car settings on the stereo to get to ESC sport mode, so that's cool!
  13. Nice one, at least it's not just me then. haha!! Looking forward to see if you find anything!
  14. Nah If it's off when I turn the car off, then it stays off anyway. This is all if I leave it on as I turn the car off, then next time I turn the ignition on, it's random as to whether the logo shows or not and whether the speedo and rev counter dials do their sweep..... odd... :-)
  15. Nice one mate, that could be why then, sometimes I faff about for a minute instead of just turning the key straight away, so maybe that's it. :-)
  16. Interesting.. Well I never use Eco, I normally use Normal, then Sport sometimes but usually switch it back to Normal when I've finished burning about.. haha! So usually it's in Normal.
  17. Hi All, I've had my new TDi VRS for a couple of weeks now. Firstly I LOVE it! 3rd Octavia I've had, previous ones were mk2 2.0 sport (petrol), then the mk2 facelift 2.0 TDi elegance, now this beauty! They really have upped the quality stakes on the build. This is a beautiful car and really does feel special when you drive it. Steering and handling are amazing and the engine (on about 1400 miles) goes like a rocket now I've got used to the peak gear changes which are different to my old TDi. I'm sure as I get more miles on it, it will open up even more, as my last two did. The only thing I think they've not done so well are the doors (inside). The old ones had the bit for keeping a bottle in at the front, tilted back and slightly separated, but now it leans forward with no narrow bit, so when you take your bottle of water or whatever out, the other crap in the door pocket slides into the gap. The new door design has also not got the same brilliant speakers that were in the mk2's. The Bolero stereo is still good, but it's lost the really full bass that they used to have (even sub bass!) The bass is still good but the very lowest frequencies are lost now. Maybe it will improve will more use. Amazing car nevertheless!! Anyway, quick question, I've searched the forum but can't find it mentioned so thought I'd ask you wonderful peeps. When I turn on the ignition from unlocking the car and getting in, sometimes the dials do their spin from min to max and back and sometimes they don't. Also the stereo screen sometimes shows the animated VRS logo, sometimes not and just shows what it was on when I last turned the car off. This is when I've turned the ignition on but haven't started the engine yet. Seems very random... Anyone else noticed this with theirs? Cheers, Dave
  18. I've got the TDI manual VRS. So far only 1400 miles on the clock but on a mixed run, some M-way, some country roads (driving enthusiastically on the country roads!) I get about 45 mpg. I used to have the 2.0TDI elegance which ended up doing 120k miles and I found that started at around the same 45mpg but got better as time went on. The same type of journey later in that cars life was about 55mpg.
  19. A good tip is to go into 'sound' then 'volume' and set bluetooth (or aux if you're using that) volume to 'loud'. Makes a big difference to the sound. Obviously louder but seems more powerful in the bass too.
  20. Thanks very much for the advice so far. I live in a flat so washing it myself is a major hassle and would just be impractical. that's why I go to the hand wash. I've tried a few places and the guys where I go do take very good care (although I appreciate what people have said about how many other cars they've washed that day etc). The only thing that's not great is the acid wheel wash (and as Tactical 87 said I think it is the autoglym one). Has anyone ever noticed their caliper paint be damaged or discoloured by these products (either using them themselves or from a paid for car wash)? I guess I could just ask them not to use the wheel cleaner (I just need to learn the Polish words for it...) Thanks, Dave
  21. Hi All, First post on Briskoda so hello!! I've had two Octavias so far, a 2006 2.0 petrol 'sport', then a 2011 2.0 TDI Elegance (with sports suspension). They're company cars but I get the choice of car. This is the only time in 20 years I've had the same model of car twice in a row, but alas, I love them!!! Just ordered my new one, and this time lucky enough to be able to get a VRS so I absolutely can't wait to drive it!! (Although I will have to wait until October! haha!). Anyway, both the Octys I've had have been in black magic paint, I've always avoided 'machine' car washes as the brush marks start to show real quick on a black car, so I take it to the local hand car wash who do an fantastic job. I've noticed that they seem to use some kind of acid based wheel cleaner (you can smell it when the do the wheels) which gets the alloys looking ace, but on both cars discoloured the skoda badge in the wheel centre cap. I was wondering, has anyone had experience of this kind of wheel cleaner, (which seems to be common at 'hand' car washes), on the red painted brake calipers and has it done any damage to the paint? Thanks, Dave
