  1. @pinstripe I take out the plate lights once a year and grind off the new rust, then I apply "rust transformer" and paint it again with rust protection color and normal color. The rust didn't wander any further since I bought the car 2,5 years ago.
  2. Are you sure you are the right forum? I don't think the Superb I (3U) has a 1.9 TDI with 105hp. The Superb 2 has though. Edit: Just learned what "56 Plate" means. Sorry for the unnecessary post.
  3. If I'm understanding this correctly you wonder if that spoiler fits on your Passat? I can tell you that the Superb has the same trunk lid as the 3BG Passat. (I've discovered a 3B5 part-number once when I disassembled it). The american version of the Passat might have a different trunk lid, since your license plates are smaller. Hope that helps. PS: The Passat W8 was sold and intended as a comfort car, not a sports car in my country.
  4. Good luck in finding a new car, regardless of the brand. I'm not sure if you actually ever sat in a Superb. One thing should be noted: There isn't a single car in this class that has nearly as much space for all passengers. If you want more space you'll have to go for an Audi A8, VW Phaeton or similar. Also they are dirt cheap for what you get in England. You can't get a proper Superb for ~3000€ from where I come from.
  5. When you turn on the Xenon lights, the lens will drive all the way down and up into the endposition before it goes into the proper state. The "coolbox" is basically a hose from the climatronic that goes into the glovebox and the middle arm rest. If you open the "wheel", cold air blows in. The cooling effect isn't really good in my opinion. Too bad the engine isn't a 1.9 PD. Personally, I wouldn't even go near a 2.0 PD TDI or 2.5 V6 TDI.
  6. First off, with the 1.9 TDI manual you've already picked the most reliable Superb engine. Most people here will tell you to go for the 5-Speed gearbox instead of the 6-Speed one. Take a close look at the trunk around the number plate lights. You will probably find some rust. I've seen everything from a few small bubbles to holes in the trunk. Park distance sensors are always a huge struggle in these cars. Make sure they are working, since replacement sensors aren't cheap and break often. Check the LED lights on the side mirrors. If the Superb has Xenon bulbs, check the headlight washers (light must be turned on when cleaning the windshield). The washers give one short burst of water each time pressed. If that shouldn't be working, try refilling windscreen-water, since the headlightpump stops working if the water level is low. Also check if the automatic lightlevel adjustment is working.
  7. I hope you've already fixed the water ingress itself. There are a lot of cables below the carpet. The first thing that breaks due to the water are points where the cables are clamped together. They might look fine from the outside, but once you'll open them there won't be much left but verdigris. Unfortunately I'm unable to find the photos I took of said faulty connectors, but I think you will know what's going on once you see the green stuff... Personally, I soldered the cables back together after removing everything that looked faulty. After that I isolated everything as good as I could with heat shrinking tubes.
  8. Some people in the German forums say that unplugging and cleaning the pins with oil/contact spray helps. It never worked for me, but I guess it would be worth a try.
  9. Does the automatic gearbox need a lot more fuel? I have to drive quite aggressive to get below 50 mpg with my manual. My overall average is 55 mpg. Sometimes better, sometimes worse. My daily commute is 20 kilometers (12.5 miles) per route. I notice quite a difference when swapping tires from 225/40 R18 to 205/55 R16. On my 16" winter tires I get better mpg. Maybe it's the brand or the width.
  10. Not sure which engine number your car has. My 1.9 TDI PD with the AWX engine needs VW 505.01. Some say that the VW 507.00/504.00 is also ok, but I wouldn't bet for that.
  11. 1. You have to delete the shortcut error on all four sensors. Then you scan for errors again. Only the sensors that are actually broken will now show up.
  12. Is it even possible to flip the backseats down? My Superb sure can't and I got Elegance interior. Or can you unscrew it? Kind of curious for future purposes.
  13. There are no custom taillights for the Superb I. Go for the 2006 facelift ones if you want improvement. I think there is a Superb bodykit. Keep searching. But in my opinion this isn't a car for modifications like that. Best regards
  14. I think red light is gonna make it darker if I'm thinking correctly. Anyways, please post results
  15. Quick report here: The ned LED Bulb arrived. Quality looks ok. It's hard to capture light with a phone camera. Left is the LED Bulb and right is a standard P21/4W Bulb. You can definitely tell that it's brighter. The foglight works as well. I always criticized the weak bulbs in the back. To me it looks like you're driving an old broken car from the 80's at night...
  16. Just ordered the ones from auto-light. Will post results.
  17. There ís a full parts catalouge on vagcat.com for Superb from 2002-2005. All you have to do is to sign up on their forums. It should be possible to find out what is needed. Edit: I didn't know what "56 plate" meant. Sorry but your car is not in the catalogue. Many people don't know that the Passat/A4/A6/Superb 1.9 engines have one belt for waterpump, alternator etc. and a seperate one to power the AC Compressor. Also at least in my country there were no Superbs without AC or powersteering so there shouldn't be too many variants.
  18. You might wanna try asking in VW Passat B5FL or Audi A4 B6 forums since those cars have the same engines as the Superb and a bigger userbase, which means more 2.0 owners.
  19. 1. As jimbof said check if the light is on. 2. The headlight washers only work if there is enough water in the tank. Make sure to fill it fully up (Not sure if the headlightpump starts in this case though). There are 2 pumps on the watertank. The lower one is for the windshield and the upper one is for the headlights. I recommend you to plug off the lower pump when troubleshooting, otherwise you'll waste a lot of water and get wet.
  20. I rubbed off all the "matt finish" with my fingers. It may took me 2 hours, but now they look just as good as new ones. Those handles are pretty expensive and they can still wear off again after a few years... After the surface was scrapped off I applied some "plastic care lotion" which made them look even better.
  21. Nothing too fancy but I thought this thread needs more Superb I.
