  1. Hi, I recently had the Columbus unit in my '09 Superb replaced (under warranty by good dealer) after it failed 2 months after I bought the car. Now this may just be my memory given that I hadn't had the car that long before it was replaced, but the new unit mutes the audio (regardless of source) when you engage reverse and I'n sure the old unit never did that. It's quite annoying and not really necessary as the parking sensor beeps are loud enough to be heard over whatever you are listening to. Is there a setting that will disable this feature? I've looked through menus, etc. but can't find anything. Thanks, David
  2. Hi, Just wanted to confirm that a similar problem I have is related to the original post here. I had the Columbus unit in my 2009 Superb Elegance replaced under guarantee by the dealer a few weeks ago (it had developed the constant reboot problem two months after I bought the car) but since then there are no navigation options in the maxi dot display. Everything else works fine, but is this the "Untick the BAP Protocol box in either Radio or Navigation" fix that is required? Which is a VCDS thing, yes? Thanks, David
  3. Great resource Gizmo, thanks. Purely as an interesting point, I live in the Harrow/Watford area, and given the generally high population density around me, I must live in one of the biggest VCDS owner blackspots! :-) (based on a number of VCDS owners per 100,000 population" idea). I see plenty of VW/Audi/Skoda cars around but obviously not too many home mechanics! May have to purchase one myself.
  4. Can anyone confirm what is the correct part number of the bluetooth unit I need as a replacement for the one in my 2009 Superb Elegance (with the Columbus head unit) in order for it to work with iPhone 5S ?
  5. Just a quick update: I took the Superb to the garage and they tried to upgrade the firmware (using their disc) but the unit wouldn't read the disc, so they are replacing the unit for free (without prompting!) as I've only had the car 2 months. Will hopefully arrive before I go on holiday next week!
  6. Mmmmm....on the sticker on the top of the unit it says HW: H11 (from reading the posts I don't think you can access the secret menu with the firmware I have (1104) ). I'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow so hopefully after that I'll know whether or not I need to progress with this option. I need it sorted quickly though as I'm driving to Germany in two weeks time so will need some in car entertainment for that!
  7. Re adamal's reply, the obvious question is how do I know if I have the right firmware? Given my unit (3T0 035 680, H11, 1104) I downloaded the file under "Firmware 4020 for older units in Europe with HDD ratios 60/35/5" on the rnsfirmware.com site. Can anyone tell me if this is the right one?
  8. Hi guys, great thread this, full of really useful info. My Columbus unit is a 3T0 035 680 (just that,no A or B or C after it) with HW: H11 and SW: 1104 on a 2009 Suberb Elegance and it has developed the constant reboot issue. I'm hoping the dealer will sort it as I've only had the car 2 months, but am researching fixes in case they won't. I've downloaded the 4020 firmware upgrade from one of the links posted here (www.rnsfirmware.com) and have looked on the my-gti site for tips and warnings, etc. but I am unsure as to whether I will lose steering wheel controls functionality if I do this upgrade - seems to be comments either way. Can anyone definitively confirm if I will or won't lose steering wheel controls, and if I do is there an easy fix to get them back? Thanks David
  9. Thanks guys, I think the heater trick did make a difference, coupled with the fact that I came at it with a bit more force/confidence. i now know I have a 3T0 035 680 with HW: H11 and SW: 1104. Unfortunately I think I made my case with the dealer a bit harder as I foolishly forgot to switch the ignition completely off before disconnecting the airbag connection so now the system thinks there's an airbag fault which is a bit of a giveaway that I've "messed with it", which is the phrase the dealer will undoubtedly say! Let's see what happens on Tuesday when I take it in. One final question, assuming I end up attempting the firmware upgrade fix myself. I've seen mention of the SWL_FIX as well as the upgrade to the firmware. Do I need both, and if so which order to I apply the fixes? Thanks.
  10. Hi, My 2009 Superb has just developed the dreaded constant reboot problem. I've only had the car for 2 months so I'm hoping the main dealer I bought it from will resolve the issue, but given the expense of new units, I'm expecting some resistance! So I'm also researching some of the potential fixes on this forum. I've researched the topic on here but I'm falling at the first hurdle of identifying exactly which unit I have as I can't get the surround off to get at the screws. I've looked at a YouTube video as well (in German unfortunately) but mine just doesn't seem to want to budge, and I'm frightened of trying to prise it off with anything other than a credit card as it may be easily damaged. Is there any particular technique to getting the surround off?
  11. Hi, Just a quick post to say hello as I've just become a member. I recently purchased an '09 Superb Elegance CR170 and am very happy with it. I've already found this forum very useful for research even before I bought the car and I'm sure it will continue to be going forward. Cheers
