  1. Hi Robjon, That was my first port of call. All connections are tight and free from rust/ corrosion. Just trying to look at everything though, so thanks for your thoughts.
  2. Went out to the car this morning and car totally dead, couldn't even get in! The car was MOT'd on Saturday, driven to the shops and parked up. This is the first time since the weekend that I have wanted to use it. The battery was replaced just before Christmas, nothing was left on and all doors and windows closed. There was a new comfort pack put on last year, so I know that is OK. When I put the charger on the alarm went off, but would not reset without doing some fiddling with the key in the lock. Of course I can only get in via drivers door when it is 'dead' and when it does allow me to turn ignition on I get a constant flickering of the instrument lights and clicking sound. Any ideas would be welcome, before I call an auto electrician. Many Thanks.
  3. Also forgot to mention, if you have the comfort pack electrics, that it might be an issue with the module inside the drivers door. Accounts for most faults with VAG cars and others. My Roomster3 developed a fault with the windows. I had never noticed before that the heated mirrors never worked, yet they adjusted correctly. I tried salvage/ second hand parts to no avail. Eventually went to my local Skoda dealer who for £80 and my VIN number gave me the exact module, it took me about 30mins to fit and everything now works as it should. Good luck.
  4. Hi Ernest, Sounds like the release mechanism on the lock. Check fuses first. Look for tell rust/ corrosion around number plate lights/ trim. Do you get condensation build up in the rear compartment? There may be a broken wire onto the relay on the lock or corrosion build up on terminal, or both. You need to get into the boot area to remove the rear trim and release it manually to have a better look and check continuity on said items. Just one of those niggly things that plague hatchbacks. If all that seems OK it might be a problem in the loom between hatch and body, next to the hinges. Hope this helps
  5. Welcome, from another Roomster owner
  6. Welcome to the Briskoda family. I am like you, always bought cheap bangers, I've had 4 Skoda's to date, a 120, a 130, an '02' Octavia 1.9 sdi, £300 with 234,00 on the clock and only 1 owner [ex taxi] it was scabby but bullet proof and was faultless driving down to Southampton from Dundee, returning an avg 52 mpg. I sold it and bought a Roomster 3 1.9 tdi. All the extras and a very decent car. Somethings will always go wrong, mine was the perennial electrics, now fixed. Overall I prefer the Octavia. God luck with yours Paul
  7. Hi Shaun, Welcome to Briskoda. Hope you enjoy your Fabia. From Paul in Dundee.
  8. Good morning JohnnyB5, unfortunately, there numerous variations of these motors and as the modules built into the motor control so many features, ie heated mirrors, windows, central locking, alarm etc you may be as well buying a new motor. My Roomster 3 had issues and although I swapped it out with a control module from a Polo [temporary fix] not all the features worked [comfort controls] I eventually bought a new motor assembly. More often than not, it is the motor itself that is at fault, although a corroded pin sounds terminal. My motor, bought from my local dealer, was £180 and took me 20 minutes to fit. All you need is the vin number which will ensure the correct motor and a few basic tools to install. Good luck.
  9. joeski. Glad this has worked for you and hope they keep working!! Mine packed up again not long after and left them like that until last sept when I worked out that VAG do put a lot of the same components on various cars so it seemed reasonable to assume that by cross referencing I could get a similar window ECU from another car. I opted for a VW Polo motor of the around the same year, that on the photos was the same as mine, it was delivered to my door, in person and only cost me £15. When I went to fit it the motor was never going in the same hole, totally too small! I took the ECU off the motor and fitted it to my motor and bingo! It worked, but the comfort switches don't and my window worked in reverse. I thought OK I can live with that. One upside, the heated mirrors were now working. However, my joy was short lived and the windows stopped working after about 20 mins. I took the fuses out, put them back in and they worked again. I have now put in an isolator switch on the fuse box flap, a 2 pole red illuminated type that you would see on domestic electrical goods. Took the fuses out and ran a simple loop from the live side of the fuse link through a remote fuse link and back into the fuse board. I keep the switch in the off position until I want to operate the windows and turn it off again as soon as I have finished. Works a treat
  10. Too right there Frustrated mad scientist. Lesson well learnt
  11. Just an update on my problem. My car was due MOT in April and wanted to get the windows working again. Spent 2 days stripping down and checking everything I could find. Sill no joy Bad weather came again and I put it off for a few days. Going down the shops one evening, low and behold, windows working. Next day nothing!! Now the good weather is back and all windows now work  I will have to look at this again, I know as soon as I need them they will fail. One point to note. I stripped the drivers door control switch module completely down including the switches and found green residue over the passenger front and rear switches, the front never did work from my door and the rear only went up. Now they both work as they should. Clouds, silverlining
  12. Last July I bought a 2006 Roomster 1.9 Tdi 3. The car had a full service history and was in vgc. I decided that I wanted to keep the service history going and saw on the Skoda site that they were offering a service package for older models. However it only covers > 8 years old and > 80,000 mls. My car was was registered in Dec 06 and had just turned 80,000 mls, so I was out of luck. A bit of research on the net and I came up with Halfords, they were offering an A/C service deal, which I needed and went to my local centre in Dundee. They were helpful and friendly and told me about the Privilege Service Plan they offer, which turned out to be the same as the Skoda dea and the same price, £15.99 per month over 3 years. I signed up and got a discount on my A/C service as well. When I got the car back they told me they had done a lights, brakes and tyre inspection and that I needed a tyre on the front O/S. The tread looked fine to me and it was only later I realised that one side was a winter tyre and the other was a summer tyre. I decided to look around as the price Halfords were quoting were a little rich for my budget. I ended up going to National tyres and got 2 tyres, to keep things looking the same. My car went for it's service and MOT on the 26th April, it failed on a broken front N/S spring and a torn CV joint gaiter. Again their prices were OTT. I told them I would get it done. On the service side of thing they picked up the front N/S tyre as only having the minimum legal tread. I questioned this and examined the tyre, it had the same amount as the other side and both tyres had only covered around 1000 mls mainly town. I am 59 and don't rally or wheel spin, I check the car over regularly and tyre pressures weekly. When I got the bill for the service/MOT I was told the bill was £206.00 and that there was a shortfall of £78. I was startled by this but paid anyway. When I got home I dug out my service plan and noted that the bill should be no more than £191.88, or 12 x £15.99. When I questioned the £206 I was told that this was because my car uses fully synthetic oil. I was never told this and there is nothing in the T&C's to say this. I contacted their customer service department, that's a joke, highlighting my case and asking for an explanation, cursory no-reply confirmation, but no response. That was over a week ago and I did send them another email stating I would cancel the service plan and that I would be writing a report for Briskoda, so that other people can make an informed decision. They were quoting me for a new spring, £157, a new CV boot and a new tyre £49. I bought a new spring on Ebay for £13.58 post free and a CV joint and boot kit for £10.99 + 4.99 p&p. Both items are guaranteed. As my mechanic was on holiday I had to fit them myself. More savings!! To top it all though, the mechanic who did the retest said the tyre in question WAS legal and had over 4mm of tread. So now I am just going back to my old faithful mechanic. Paul
  13. Many thanks for that Aubrey. Yeah the plastic clips always break
  14. This seems to be quite a common fault on Roomsters and Fabias. Mine has the same issue. But because of the bad weather I have not had time to look at it properly. I will look at it after Christmas and now I know exactly where to look I will be better prepared. Where are you getting the loom and how much?
  15. Hi Kenny, Just checked the forum the other day for meets, would like to have come to this one
  16. Hello Laird, Welcome to the site. Lots of useful tips on here, hope you find it as interesting as I have. Enjoy :sun: From Paul in Dundee.
  17. This used to be my playground when I lived in Coleraine. Lots of happy summers spent here.
  18. Hi, I have been a member for nearly a year now, but never did leave a comment here. Well, I bought a 2002 Octavia Sdi, ex taxi for £300 and needed to do a bit of work which brought me here. The old girl has done me proud, never let me down and cost me very little in return. Onwards 18 months and I am now changing to an 06 Roomster 3 1.9 Tdi, which has near enough every extra on it. Get it on Thursday, happy days.
  19. When my mate and I finished training as junior soldiers we bought one of these from the depot mechanic, it was sky blue, paid £90 for it. I gave it to my sister when I was posted to Hong Kong. It failed it's next mot when it was raised on a post lift and the engine and front wheels stayed on the ground.
