  3. Not according to the BBC - plenty on AM. Five Live is only on AM and DAB, not on FM.
  4. You will need to be very careful in autumn/winter with WVO. I had a nasty couple of days when quite hard frosts in late September gelled the oil in the fuel line. It was quite thick WVO (dark in colour) with no petrol in it. The VAG fuel lines are very prone to it, whereas the Pug and the Mercedes would start on WVO even in quite low temps. Anything below about 4C is a problem. Some have put in new 10mm lines to help this. Diesel will also thin fuel, but the effect is less. 5% petrol has the same effect as 15-20% diesel. BTW 50p/l for 1 mic WVO is pricey 30p is more reasonable.
  5. I've run WVO in a 405 and a W124, but two weeks ago I got organised with my 03 ALH TDi estate, and filtered 250 litres of WVO. Then I drove to Italy and back, with luggage, 200L in the back, and three bikes on the tow bar carrier. All good. MPG was about 42, but at 80 mph much of the time and over 2,500 miles you can't complain. The fuel was mixed with about 5% petrol to keep it thin.
  6. I have a 2003 ALH TDi estate. Thinking the turbo had cut out, I killed and re-started the engine on the move with the aircon engaged. It's not worked since, which was a pity as I was less than half-way through a 1,000 mile trip in temps up to 36C. Leaving it alone has not worked. It's nice to have, and was pretty cold when in use, so I'd like to fix it. Any thoughts on where to start, or is this for a pro?
  7. Rear number plate lenses seem to be an issue as the screws rust in, preventing an easy bulb change. Remove the hatch liner and drill out, removing the shroud first (4 x Torx screws). VW part number for one lens is W1H5 943 119. Complete with 2 x self-tappers and washers. £4.26 +VAT, not normally held in local stock but on 24 hr delivery from warehouse. Parts guy seem to think it's a Jetta/Vento part.
  8. OK door card is off in one piece, lining on door peeled back but how do I now open the door/undo the lock? Stuck!
  9. MK1 Octavia TDi 2003 has standard fit ICE. I have owned it for 9 months. CD changer was 100%, then started getting sticky, failing to read discs. Now it's dead. I can't get the cassette to eject, and the head unit does not recognise it. I'm not truly bothered, but it would be good to get it working again. Head unit now has very poor FM reception and no AM (and never has had AM). It can't even hold R2 on the M25 I've had it out and the antenna cable is attached, so perhaps there is an issue further down? The OE antenna is in place on the roof. I guess a techy could test the antenna cable at the head unit end for signal strength, but that would involve spending money ... If it all gets to hard I'll swap out the OE head unit for a Halfords special. It comes out with the aid of my removal kit (broken saw blades) but by the looks of things a new unit will require a DIN cage? Many thanks for all help - wiggly amps are foreign to me. I've been used to classic three-pointed star diesel 124s which have no electrics at all in comparison.
  10. The reason for the high amperage is for the power feed to a caravan (white socket) to power the fridge on the move.
  11. OE dog guards come up on Ebay. I paid £28 for one. Anything else is not as good.
