  1. There's a display in the MaxiDot to show the extra consumption, including A/C. Don't know how accurate that is though
  2. I've had cars from several makers; Fiat, Opel, Ford, Nissan and Toytota, so I'm not very loyal to one particular brand. Test drove few different candidates last time I was buying a car, swallowed my prejudice (yes I'm closer to 60 so Skoda has not always been that well respected) and bought an Octy that seemed to fit my needs the best. Now done some 50000 km in two and half years....no regrets. Needs ? economical, big boot space, performant enough and a price tag that allows me to do also something else than own a car
  3. http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/volkswagen/golf/94276/volkswagen-reveals-details-of-new-15-litre-tsi-petrol " Available in both 128bhp and 148bhp". Oh well, it looks VW is planning/trying to charge us consumers by selling different software parameters Would be nice to know the torque of the upper end 1.5 though.
  4. Had a rattle that sounded like driver's door. Actually it was the seat height adjustment lever rattling against the seat plastics. Sorted out with a thick rubber ring around the lever. Took some time to figure out though
  5. Had exactly the same...took couple of months of annoyance before fixing it with a thick rubber band. Now have rattle from the rear. Shocks replaced on warranty, but no joy. Back to the garage.
  6. This is starting to be bit scary. People are already driving in slippery winter conditions taking stability control for granted; "If I can't handle the car, it will do the rest". Next they will let go of the steering wheel :( Programmer error is known as PEBKAC (Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair)...just replace keyboard with steering wheel and Chair with driver's seat
  7. Thanks for the tip  I have been annoyed by a faint, somewhat temperature dependent rattle from passenger side. I have not been able to spot the source until now. When I pushed the vent grille a bit, it was clearly loose.
  8. I.M.H.O this "VW scandal", though very bad cheat, is just the tip of the iceberg. I would be surprised if VW is there alone after more cars have undergone similar tests. Quite often different metrics, no matter what they are used for, tend to optimize themselves.
  9. I guess it has something to do with my age. I remember those rear engine things with tilted pedals https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/7/77/Skoda_105S_-_front.jpg/1024px-Skoda_105S_-_front.jpg
  10. Owned a 1.4 DSG estate for year and half, and done some 28000 km with it. In addition to occasional not so loud rattle from dashboard, no problems or service calls this far. Given low weight of the car and adequately performant, low reving engine, smooth to drive. MPG from 47 to 51; most of my driving is ex-urban. I had concerns about the DSG as well, but now I wouldn't go back to manual. I haven't read about too many DSG problems with later production versions, so my hopes are that VAG got it sorted out. Bad things ?...the badge and not so exciting car Time will tell about the reliability.
  11. When going downhill and in ECO mode, revs = 0 or revs = idle ? If the answer is latter one, I would say that ECO is consuming more fuel by idling the engine rather than shutting the fuel injection. To my understanding coasting is allowing the car to roll freely with engine disengaged...or perhaps I missed something. ps. Not trying to start an argument, just a matter of figuring it out
  12. Are you sure about the downhill coasting ? Mine (1.4 / DSG) doesn't go out of gear, but if I hit the brake pedal smoothly while going downhill, throws in smaller gear to reduce speed. Consumption shows zero. Haven't got the drive mode selection though. I think it's a matter of ACC not being able to predict traffic as driver does.
  13. Rattle from passenger side in low temperatures, otherwise the car is matching my needs perfecty.
  14. I have noticed that snow (=melting to water) in the gap between bonnet and windscreen seems occasionally to dip in. Could have something to do with the electric cabin heater I have got installed. B.T.W Your're lucky when getting Rapid as courtecy car. Last, and also first time my car went in, for fitting footwell lights, I got CitiGo with wintertyres+spikes...J..sus what a NOISE
  15. It's a feature. I've got the same alert few times (during one year) mainly in winter conditions. My thinking is a) caused by slippery surface and/or caused by harsh environmental conditions triggering temporary sensor glitches. Have you calibrated the tyre monitoring system ? If the calibration is bit off-the-scale to start with, I guess you could get the alert more frequently.
  16. Hi Just got my Octy back from repair shop, where they fitted footwell lights. I also made a complaint about squeaks coming from passenger side of the dashboard. As the problem is sensitive to temperature changes, obviously they couldn't find anything to fix :( Seems like the sound is coming from the horizontal joint between upper and lower parts of the dashboard. Tried already silicone spray, but no such luck. Suggestions appreciated.
  17. Made the same swap last february, except my Avensis was a 2009 model...no regrets so far. Driven some 8500 miles including lengthy sprint to northern Finland. With summer tires the car is more relaxing to drive than Avensis, with winter tyres there is a bit of pull. As a music lover I find even the standard Bolero with SD and Bluetooth audio options quite nice...no more CD:s
  18. I would suggest buying big enough SD-card (I have 32G). It doesn't stick out of the dashboard and no need to 'reboot'. I don't know how low temperatures you will have during winter, but pay attention to the temperature rating before buying one.
  19. Sure you can run on fumes, just don't park the car tilted...you may not be able to start it. A friend of mine had still few km left on the drive computer, but next morning had to push the car to more leveled spot before it started
