  1. Thanks for all the suggestions. The old fitters cure worked, if all else fails hit it. Of course it had to be a bit more technical than that so Gilroom's method worked. Once it was open, I gave a generous squirt of liquid grease into every orifice and it's still working but I have a new lock unit on order via my friendly local garage.
  2. The front passenger door won't unlock either with the fob or the console switches, so how do I open it to access the lock mechanism? Is it possible to remove the trim with the door closed?
  3. I need to access the reversing sensor module located on the left, rear wing. I've removed the 3 screws in the baggage hooks and found 3 clips on the rear boot pillar. In another post, I've read that there are 3 more screws somewhere but I can't find them. I've also removed the rear sill cover which is clipped to the side panel. Is brute force needed or is it just a matter of technique?
  4. I saw the same clip - couldn't hear them either. Just hoping my local, friendly garages' VCDS can find the problem
  5. I bought one and tried it in all 4 locations but the fault remains. I've just learnt to live with it for now but may have to get a garage to see if the fault is elsewhere.
  6. I've used a dual outlet with USB charging point mounted under the radio. A short run to the fuse panel with a 5amp fuse and I've linked to the radio ground wire. It's neat and works well.
  7. That's just the job! Even after all the help from you all, I wasn't looking forward to taking the fuse panel out. I'm not as flexible as I was so it could have been a long, painful job with lots of swearing and drinks breaks. Adaptor ordered, should arrive mid week. Thanks again.
  8. Thanks Guys! Very useful pics. According to my handbook, 40 is the rear wiper fuse (10 amp) and 41 is not assigned but is on the ignition. Just need to get the right socket insert and I'll have a go. Cheers. :cocktail: Mike
  9. How do I gain access to the back of the interior fuse box? I want to add ignition controlled power for a dash cam and GPS and fuse #40 appears to be unused.
  10. I've just taken the bumper off and removed and cleaned all the sensors. It was dry and just a bit dusty inside and all the electrical connections were dry, clean and bright. I'm having problems finding new sensors at a sensible price. I bought a pair from E-bay that were supposed to fit but didn't. The only genuine ones I can find in the UK are over £50 each. A bit much if the fault is elsewhere. The Part number is 5JO 919 275 so if anyone can find them cheaper or can suggest a possible different fault I'd be grateful.
  11. After the car has been in the garage overnight, the car starts normally but when I select reverse, the system beeps normally and the car symbol on the radio shows but after a couple of seconds, there is a longer, higher pitched beep and the car symbol disappears. The reversing lights work normally but there is no audible or visual reverse sensor warning. Usually, after driving for a few miles, the system starts to work normally until the next time it's left overnight. Is it possible I have a gremlin in my garage that comes out at night and messes with the car? A wiring diagram of the system would be useful.
  12. Is the rear wiper motor the same as the Fabia, Octavia etc?
  13. Thanks Skipp, I'll have a go when it stops raining Sorry to hear about all your other problems. I had a 2003 Passat with 250k on it that was fine until the ABS controller died. It still amazes me that electrical problems are relatively rare.
  14. I have a similar problem but mine is intermittent. It's fine for a while, but occasionally needs a push to start so I'm guessing that it's a bad spot on the commutator. I want to have a look to see if I can clean it up but can't see how to remove the cover. I need advice as I'm well aware of how easy it is to break a plastic retaining tab.
  15. I haven't seen any reviews so fair comment.
  16. I'm a tightwad, always looking to save a few quid. So when I noticed that the tyre on my spare wheel had never seen the road and was in perfect condition, I came up with a cunning plan. If I could find another new Sunew YS112 205/45ZR16, I'd put a part worn tyre (Currently Bridgestones all round) on the spare and save about £70. Unfortunately, I can't find one anywhere. It even looks as though they're not made anymore. Suggestions welcomed. :wonder:
  17. I'm happy with the lights on my Roomster. They are a lot better than those on my previous car, a 2003 Passat TDi.
  18. I noticed that the glass on the offside foglight was broken last week so I ordered one from an E-bay seller for £27. Google searches for 'how to change' were a bit daunting, some saying you need to remove the bumper or fiddle about in the wheel arch just to change the bulb! Yesterday I decided to bite the bullet and have a go. First task was to remove the trim / grill. A bit tentative at first but then found a firm tug on the inner / radiator end did the job. This revealed three torx screws holding the light in which came out easily and then just twisted the bulbholder out. Before fitting the new unit, I set the adjustment screw the same as the old one. Couldn't have been easier.
  19. An interesing project Jim, and I agree with most of your findings. I do find it slightly frustrating that the engine isn't really happy at 30mph in 4th except on flat roads and if you want to accelerate quickly, then you have to drop to 3rd. Overall, I'm very happy with the performance and it's a lot better than I expected after reading some reviews before I bought it. Mike.
  20. Thanks Richard. Some useful tips though I'll probably not go the remapping route but the paper air filter and good quality oil sounds about right. I've always liked to change the oil at 5000miles which may not be necesary with modern synthetics but I'm sure it can't hurt.. I have noticed the roughness and lack of grunt at low revs, she's much happier above 1500rpm. Cheers, Mike.
  21. Roomy has so much going for it, a few MPG is a very small price to pay.
  22. Thanks for that. It's good to know that I'm getting about the same as others. I do very little motorway driving but it's useful to know that the mid 60's are better than the low 70's.
  23. Thanks for that. I suppose that I expected a bit more as I was getting around 50mpg from my 1.9tdi Passat estate that had 240,000 on the clock.
  24. I've been averageing around 51mpg on runs of around 15 miles of local lanes with some town work. I try to drive economicaly but don't hang about . On longer, motorway journeys, it goes up to around 56mpg using cruise control at around 70mph. I'd just like to know how this compares with others. Has anyone used Redex additive or similar and does it make any difference?
