  1. Thanks Hollinshead. Already on the approved used Skoda search page, looking at Superbs . She needs a new windscreen (bad crack) which I will get sorted, and has a few stone chips, but nothing that you wouldn't expect on a car with this many miles
  2. I have been reading these posts with interest and am willing to hear the views of those more experienced in the VT process, if nothing more than to clarify that I have understood the situation with regards to VT I have a Oct 13 VRS diesel which is on a 42 month PCP. The contract mileage is 20,000 per year, but I have exceeded this. I am currently 26 months in and have covered 59,000 miles. This means I have 11,000 'free' miles remaining before I will incur the excess mileage charge at the end of the contract in 16 months. Going on current mileage, if I run to term, I am going to be around 25,000 miles over the contracted mileage and will be hit with a £1750 excess mileage charge... Having added up all the payments made so far plus the advance payment, I have cleared the 50% mark a month or so ago. Now if I have read the above correctly, I can just call up Skoda Finance, tell them I want to terminate and they will collect the car, with no more to pay regardless of the high mileage? Is that right? Seems too good to be true. Don't get me wrong - I have loved this car, but if I can walk away now and either take out a new PCP (or a loan which would be cheaper as another poster has mentioned), then this may be the way I will go. Thanks in advance!
  3. Just to close this off from me, I have to say my local dealer, Sparshatts, were excellent. I rolled up unannounced at 8am last Wednesday and the manager said 'are we expecting you?'. I said 'no' and explained the symptoms and he asked why hadn't I called so they could have booked me in. Went on to say that although he would take the car straight away he didn't have anything available for me to drive away in as a loan. I told him I needed transport for my 100 mile round trip commute and had to get to work so would continue to drive it and take it steady and call Skoda assist if it broke down. 'Hmm' he says. 'Have you got your license on you?'. 'Yes' was my reply. 20 minutes later I'm on the way to work in a Citigo (not a bad little car I have to say, considering its size and three cyl engine). They called me at 5 the same day to say that my car was ready to collect! Water pump and cambelt replaced under warranty. Popped in a 8 the next day to collect and it was all shiny clean as well. Can't complain, and the car is running faultlessly.
  4. Thanks. Was fine this morning, but it started to show the same symptoms coming home again this evening. I was watching the temp gauge like a hawk! The temp rose past normal to about 2 o'clock and I eased off and it dropped back. Then stayed at normal the rest of the way home. Not chancing it any more. Am calling the dealer first thing tomorrow!
  5. Had the overheat issues for the first time this evening, about 5 miles after leaving work. Just got up to 70 in 6th then the MFD lit up saying 'STOP - Engine overheat!', alarms sounding and the temp gauge was in the red. Pulled over but left it idling and the gauge immediately started dropping back to normal. Took less than a minute I suppose to return to the centre mark. Drove the remaining 40 miles home with no further symptoms, even at 'normal' cruising speed. Will see how she behaves tomorrow morning, but from what I've read this sounds like imminent water pump failure I guess? Car has covered about 57K miles
  6. Agreed the Amundsen is really slow. Though like others have said, I do tend to use it on long journeys. Day to day I use my Android phone in a bespoke screen mount. So much quicker and has the advantage of live traffic info. I have considered doing a self-upgrade to Columbus. Does anyone know if this is possible, and if so, how easy/difficult it is?
  7. Hi - did you manage to sell the last Gemini?? I'm interested in it as going to Germany next week. I bought what the dealer told me was a spare wheel for the car, only to find (after my wife kindly picked it up for me while I was at work) that its just a standard steel that doesn't fit! Thanks
  8. There's a guy round my way (believe he's a builder) drives a Discovery with the plate D1G UP
  9. BTW.... when I say 'just about everything', my only criticism is the sound quality of the Amundsen+ DAB audio. My last car (Passat) only had the basic RCD300 with a Phatnoise Phatbox DMS connected to. It sounded incredible. Would welcome any suggestions on what can be done to improve it. Cheers
  10. Greetings Briskodians! I'm now into my second week of ownership of my beautiful Octy VRs diesel. What a great car! Love just about everything about it. Had a MK II Elegance in 2004 - 2008 as a company car and loved it. I then foolishly chose a Honda Accord 2.2 diesel, which was awful. A couple of random career moves made a new car out of reach, but I always wanted another Octy. 2014 put me back in the market and having set myself a budget and looked at lots of race blue DSG MkII's I ended up blowing the budget and getting a manual candy white MKIII! I dipped in & out of the Briskoda forum a few times when I had my last Octy. Great place to be for everything Skoda!
  11. So does anyone know if it can be done? I am interested in this too as I also find the Amundsen screen a tad small and the Columbus does fill the space much better. Obv not over keen on shelling out a few hundred quid for something I can't use!
