  1. Hi all, Installed the SD card into slot 1 in the glovebox and updated the map successfully in approximately 1/2hr. Thanks once again for all your help. Pete
  2. Well just a quick update, as advised I downloaded the zip file to my pc, which took 2 to 3 hours and then unzipped the file to my sd card that had been given a full re-format. Card update took another 2 to 3 hours but have not tried to install and update to the sat nav system yet - job for tomorrow Thanks for your prompt assistance and advice, I'll update further in due course. Cheers, Pete
  3. Hi and thanks for your reply. I am attempting to download the zipped file to my pc as you suggest, (3.3Tb spare capacity so no problem with 'not enough capacity' :-)
  4. Hi, I have logged on the Skoda Portal to check for map updates for my 2017 Superb, entered my VIN number and it shows a 26Gb download is available "ECE 2021 valid since CW 45/2020" and tells me to use an SD card with a capacity of at least 26Gb. I have reformatted a 32Gb card which had 29Gb capacity free and started the download to this card. It has failed after 20 ~ 30mins returning a "Failed - Disc full" error. Checking the SD card properties it shows used space 4Gb, free space 29.8Gb. Any ideas on how to download this update file? Many thanks for any info / advice you can provide on this issue.
  5. Hi Paul, I haven't had a chance to see if any noticeable changes have occurred on the new map as I just checked update had completed at 00:30 hrs, removed card, locked up and went to bed lol. Will check it out over the coming days - thanks once again for your assistance 👍
  6. All done now, thanks for your assistance Paul and other contributors to this thread. Well, I can confirm that you do not need to leave the ignition on or have the car running. I inserted the SD card in to slot 2 in the glove box, switched on ignition and it recognised an update was available. Clicked on update and watched it's progress for a few mins then switched off and removed the key, locked the car and checked about an hour later and the update was at 42% complete, so locked up again. Rechecked at 1/2 past midnight to find all was complete, removed the card and that was that. Great that this can be done without leaving ignition on, makes updating so much less hassle.
  7. Paul, I managed to log onto the portal with my VIN number ok this time & have just completed the epic download! Got to extract it to an sd card and install. I just read that once the installation starts in the car you can switch off the ignition and leave it install on its own, do you know if this is correct as I thought you had to have ignition on or car running? Thanks
  8. Cheers Paul, my Superb is a 2017 model. I did try using the Skoda portal entering my VIN number probably late last year and got nowhere so assumed the free update period had expired. I will have another look and see if I have better success.
  9. Hi, please excuse my ignorance but for how long can you get map updates for, is it until warranty runs out or can you still obtain updates after this? Thanks
  10. Anyone noticed that the mkiii driver access is more restricted - I could do with the door pillar moving back an inch or at least being vertical rather than angled forward. I seem to be brushing the pillar a bit getting in resulting in trim start to get a bit grubby and door seal wearing. My son's mki has much more access and I didn't notice any issues on my mkii. Are the door pillars in exactly same position on the hatch as compared to the estate versions on the mkiii's?
  11. Hi again, quick reply from my son - he said that his car doesn't shudder or stall. Cheers Bigjohn
  12. Thanks for your reply Bigjohn. My son has not told me of any problems in these areas and the car has just been in to a garage for it's annual service so I don't think the car is suffering in this way but I have emailed him just to make sure. I will report back with his response👍
  13. Hi, my old 2005 Superb 1.9 TDI 130bhp car that I passed on to my son has had it's engine management/warning light on for some time. A scan revealed the EGR valve was the problem so we stripped it down and gave it a good clean. After refitting it my son reset the fault to clear the warning light from the dash, however a few days later it has come back on. Another scan points to the EGR valve again, does this mean that the unit needs replacement or is there anything else to do with this valve that can cause this fault to register? A garage has just quoted him £218 + VAT for the EGR valve from Skoda. Searching on ebay there are lots in the range of £30 to £110 - anyone used these after market units? Thanks for any advice.
  14. CJ, have you found the clutch & brake micro-switch locations, if so you can try a bit of contact cleaner on them?
