  1. Its ok, bit of a nosey on the website and answered my own question re APR
  2. Thanks again to all, lots of info after time on the phone to varius tuners - just need to mull it all over now. No one has yet answered the engine question - is the new 184 unit the same as the older 140 / 170 unit with different software or does it actually have uprated components on it. Cheers again
  3. Re Wallace Performance, would you recomend them for a remap or were they just mentioned because of proximity (im in Angus) and the fact they have a dyno. Cheers
  4. Thanks for a the replies, I was told by The Skoda dealer I bought it from that it was a Skoda management car, V5 not back from DVLA yet so no clues to be had there. I was told that some folk can tell what the car was used for by the number plate letters but no idea if that's true. Car has a KW (Luton) prefix if that's any indication. Re the star performance question - yes it is that one in Kirkaldy. Shark seem appealing but I'm nowhere near them, they have an agent in Aberdeen which is my nearest but he doesn't have a Dyno and would simply upload one of there maps on my motor, bit reluctant to do that as they charge the same fee as for a proper dyno'd remap session which seems a bit unfair to me, especially if mine is up on the 184bhp already as I'll never know. torquetronix is not close to me but the inlaws live near him in N.Ireland so can kill 2 birds with 1 stone and keep the missus happy at the same time. As for development cars then the answer to that is "I dont know" so will assume not. Re killing in 6 months - that was meant more as a general sweeping statement, long term reliability is not a major issue as I get bored of cars very quickly and seldom keep one for more than 2.5 - 3 years, so clutches / gearboxes should be fine however as its a new engine (in 184 guise at least) then would hate to delvelop any warrant issues and be told tough sh@£. 98% of the time I drive quite sensibly, 2 young kids etc etc but there are times when I drive at middle of the night o'clock and it's nice to use the car once in a while and smile, maybe a mid life crisis. Also concerned re Skoda doing a software update during a service and wiping the map, not sure an issue with a older more established engine but a real possibility with the 184 being so new. Does anyone know if it is the same engine as the older 140 / 170 vag unit with different software or is there actual hardware differences also. Cheers all.
  5. Hope some of you knowledgable chaps can help. Bit of background. Got a 2014 Octy VRS Diesel last week and loving it. Its my 3rd Octy VRS but the other 2 were petrol. 1st was a standard mk2 200bhp, 2nd was a FL MK 2 which i had remapped at Torquetronix and dyno'd at about 260bhp and went like a rocket. Got all sensible for a while and got a Passat 2.0tdi bluemotion 140bhp which i also had remapped at Torquetronix (dyno'd at about 185bhp) which was fine to drive but a little boring in appearance - hence why im now back in a VRS. Anyway to my point. Firstly my current supposedly 184bhp VRS feels far faster than that, it was only owned by Skoda before me (done about 6k miles) so i really can't see that they would have tweaked it at all - is it normal for these things to feel soooo rapid as standard or are Skoda being a little conservative with the figures. Secondly i'm considering a remap. Torqueronix who i have used before and have been happy with (although now gets mixed reviews) says it will remap fine to about 230bhp 500lb with no issues as do Shark performance (similar figures) who get cracking reviews. Another compnay i have spoken to, Star Pefromance in Kirkaldy say - no way, won't touch it as that engine is already at it's limit. Who do i believe ? Is it the same engine as the 140 & 170 bhp VAG units or is it a upgraded unit in any way. Please help as the last thing i want to do is to remap and then kill it in 6 months and need a new engine. I appreciate that a remap will void waranty on various compnents etc etc but im relatively sensible and willing to accept the risk - i won't be driving it like i stole it (well not all the time at least). Anyway thanks in advance for any advive / experiences you can offer / share.

  14. Nothing too serious then lol, think what I was really wanting to know was wether you all though super actually made any difference.
  15. Looking for a bit of advice / opinion on the following :- Im on my 2nd Octavia VRS petrol, both cars owned from new and treated with respect apart from the odd occasion when an Audi / BMW's bonfire needed dampening down shall we say lol Current one is a face lift 2010 with a remap and the newer engine, the last one was a standard 2006. I ran my old one on standard supermarket unleaded with no issues at all ever. My new one has been ran on super unleaded from day 1 (not the crazy expensive optimax stuff just the supermarket stuff). I have no idea if it makes any difference to performance / m.p.g. whatsoever as my new car was remapped at 3 days old so impossible for me to compare the two. Anyway here is the dilemma - I can now get a 5% discount on fuel from a certain supermarket petrol station near me (long story but it's totally legit) the problem is the place i can get the discount from doesn't sell super unleaded only the normal stuff. Should i start to buy the cheaper standard unleaded fuel and enjoy the extra 5% discount or should i continue to buy the super unleaded stuff. Would work out around 7 - 8p per litre cheaper. Help
  16. Live in Scotland and my remapped VRS petrol was crap in the snow last year, got stuck on 3 occasions but I was a big sceptic about the difference winter tyres would make but then i bit the bullet and put a set of 18" goodyear ultragrips on the other day (got a brand new set of 4 off a very shady looking man for an imposible to resist price of £360 then another £44 for fitting elsewhere ), not been in any snow yet but it has been pretty cold and wet and can honestly say they performed great, far better than my summer tyres had been doing in the same conditions. Bring on the snow.
  17. To be fair I had a seperate dealing with the parts guy, a young chap whose name I forget and he was most helpfull, the reception staff were fine also. It was some aspects of the service and my vehicle care I had issues with. Had these issues been addressed properly it would have all been forgotten but the way in which they were dealt with was poor to say the least, never had a service manager phone me at home to fall out before, it would be unfair of me to comment more online as there are 2 sides to every story and that's only my opinion, I'm quite sure the service manager feels the same about me.
  18. Not sure about that, I knew a few of the guys at Fairweather including Norman and the sales and service managers and didn't recognise anyone at Specialist Cars.
  19. Thanks for your replies, Was just looking to see how anyone else had got on with Specialist Cars. I used them for a service recently and have ended up putting in a big complaint to Skoda about the experience. The reception staff were friendly enough and the parts guy was great but I had a couple of issues with the standard of the actual service and time keeping plus my car ended up with unaccounted miles on the clock, when mentioned to service manager he promised to look into it but I never heard back. Complained to Skoda, got a phone call from most unhappy customer service manager who basically called me a lier, we had big fall out and i'll never use them again.
  20. Just interested to see if anyone has used Dundee's new Skoda frachise "Specialist Cars" for sales, parts or especialy servicing. What did you think of them ??????? Ta
  21. Well my VRS FL has been in the wars, hit a big crow on the motorway the other day and despite the now obliterated crow coming off worse (hopefully suffering badly for breaking my car lol) the Octy has not escaped unharmed. The passenger side fog light area was where the crow hit and as a result the black honeycomb grill stuff has been totally destroyed and is nowhere to be seen (have ordered a new one of them which was surprisingly cheap) hopefully that will just clip back in without ant major hastle. However what has also happened is one of the 3 brackets that hols the fog light in has broken (it's the side where there is only the single fixing if that makes sense) the other side with the 2 fixings is fine, i'm hoping a bit of evo stick will sort that as its a clean break and i don't fancy having to but a whole new fog light as the lense is undammaged and it still works fine. There is a small black piece of rubber about 4 - 5 cm long that has come off the fog light, does anyone know what it does and where it goes as i can't see the purpose of it. Finally the LED running light is still working and the lense is undammaged but it has been pushed back into the grill by a few cm's, does anyone know what holds this in place and if refitting the honeycomb stuff should hold it in place. Thanks as always in advance as you guys seem to know everything. Ta PS has anyone else has an air vent break ?
