  1. Purely on price I'm arranging a test drive in the Toledo. The 1.6 Tdi Style Advanced has a great spec and is very affordable new. I'd be interested to know how any owner's on here have got on with the move from a Tsi (105) to the 1.6 diesel engine? Is the change worth it in terms of better mpg's?
  2. I have owned my 1.2 TSI Elegance since August 2014. Mileage is now approaching 44,000, and I'm pleased to say that the car has on the whole been completely reliable to-date. I'm considering a move to diesel however, as my daily commute alone now accounts for 12,000 miles per annum, and when I combine this with my other driving, I'm realistically looking at 15,000 to 16,000 every year. So what do I go for? The 1.4 diesels don't interest me, but I'm tempted by the Spaceback in 1.6 form, or perhaps the Toledo (Style Advanced) or Leon. The Octavia would also be an option. Interested to hear about experience of real-life mpg's in these vehicles. Most of my driving will be on fast(ish) A roads, with a little bit of motorway and town traffic thrown in. Thanks :-)
  3. I'm pleased with mine. 1.2 TSI Elegance purchased August 2014 from main dealer with 12,500 on the clock. Haven't spent a penny aside from routine servicing and a brake fluid change. Mileage now about to hit 40,000 and I'm still on the original Dunlop tyres. The fronts are still legal (will be replacing before winter), while the rears have thousands of miles left in them. I've measured my fuel consumption for every tank over the last two years, and am averaging a little over 50mpg. I always fill it to the brim and refuel soon after the low fuel warning light comes on. Between filling and the light coming on I usually get circa 500 miles (the best being 531). Door seals weren't modified, and I have on two occasions had to pull the rubbers back to let a bit of water out after heavy wind-driven rain. The suspension can be a bit creaky and squeaky on poor roads, but in general, the car has been a pleasure to own. Will keep it for another year to 18 months.
  4. Over three months I've found the Maxidot very accurate (within .5 mpg on each tank), so much so, that I'm now trusting it sufficiently to stop manually calculating my mpg's every time I fill up.
  5. Eager driving and heavy traffic hits fuel consumption hard I've found. My Rapid has now covered 15,500 miles (3,000 in my ownership), and I have yet to average less than 52mpg from a tank on a fill-up. I've measured the Maxidot readings against my own brim-to-brim calculations, and the Maxidot is always accurate to within .5 mpg. 70 mph motorway runs generally return around 52-53 mpg, while A-road journeys have given up to 56mpg if I keep it to 60 mph. Travel any quicker and these figures take a severe dent. Use the gearbox, change up and down in good time and the car will return the published figures.
  6. I have recently started using the excellent One Drive+ navigation on my Nokia Lumia 635. If I turn off Bluetooth on my phone and stop it synching with the car, it works perfectly and gives me voice instructions via the speaker on the handset. If however I let the phone synch to the car as normal it doesn't utter a sound? I suspect it may be possible to hear the instructions over the car speakers via Bluetooth, but I haven't yet been able to establish this. Does anyone have experience of this issue? Thanks Trev
  7. The Skoda bars are definitely different parts numbers for the Rapid and the Spaceback, they look identical however. I have the bars for my Rapid and they are excellent - used them with a large roof box over the summer with no problems. They're on and off in seconds!
  8. I have the same cigar lighter adapter. Always on in mine - even without the keys in the ignition.
  9. Managed to order the same item from Superskoda, but in black rather than white. £12.39 delivered :-) Thanks again!
  10. Can't find this anywhere on ebay now, any chance you could provide a link? Cheers
  11. Ouch, feel your pain :'( Have done that myself on more than one occasion. Keeping it as a full size spare is a good call
  12. Not sure about the later cars, but on my June 2013 registered Rapid, only the front light comes on when you open the door. The rear light is just a two position on/off switch.
  13. I know what you mean about seeing the needle visually drop! Things will improve as the miles mount.
  14. I've done this to measure the accuracy of the MaxiDot for my first three fill-ups. Still finding the MaxiDot accurate to within 0.5%, with the average mpg marginally understated each time.
  15. Hi Alex You'll be able to make and answer calls using the MFD (controls on the right hand stalk are used to scroll through options and select). When you receive a call, the Maxidot display will switch automatically to show the incoming call, and it will then just be a button press to accept it. I have the steering wheel controls, but am pretty sure this is accurate. Trev
  16. Would agree with this, on previous cars that I have owned the fuel gauge had a tendency to drop like a stone once it hit half full. This isn't the case with the Rapid however, and with the Maxidot giving figures very close to my own brim-to-brim calculations I find that I'm able to rely on the dials and information.
  17. Love it! Gorgeous colour! Glad the Amundsen is sorted now.
  18. Takes a little getting used to, felt odd changing up so quickly at first, but its the only way to get the economy out of the engine. Haven't changed my driving style at all, just find myself changing up earlier. This is my first Skoda in 28 years of driving (and 27 cars) and am very impressed.
  19. Mine has a little over 13,000 on the clock now, I'm sure you will once the car has loosened up a little.
